1/12. hematometra and extended vaginal haematoma after laser conization. A case report.

A very rare case of haematometra and extended vaginal haematoma in a 53-year-old woman after laser conization is reported. The patient presented with amenorrhea and complete urinary retention. The possible pathogenesis of this complication is discussed. ultrasonography, combined with physical examination were very helpful in determining the diagnosis. Cervical dilation and protection of surrounding tissues from thermal damage is recommended during laser conization to avoid similar complications.

2/12. An unusual case of urinary retention due to imperforate hymen.

A 15 year old girl presented to the accident and emergency (A&E) department with a 24 hour history of lower abdominal pain, and was found to have acute urinary retention. She was discovered to have an imperforate hymen with associated haematocolpos and haematometrium. This is rare and is hence a very unusual presentation to the A&E department. patients presenting with retention of urine should be carefully assessed for the cause.

3/12. A case of retention of urine and haematocolpometra.

SUMMARY: A 13-year-old local girl presented to the emergency department with a 12-h history of lower abdominal pain and inability to pass urine. Examination showed that she was in urinary retention and an imperforate hymen was found. Further investigation showed haematocolpos and haematometra. This is a rare cause of the retention of urine and the emergency physician should consider this condition in women between the ages of 12 and 18 years presenting with abdominal pain and obscure urinary complaints.

4/12. Acute urinary retention caused by a unilateral hematometra.

We describe a unilateral hematometra with an associated hematosalpinx causing acute retention of urine in a female adolescent. Normal menstruation had occurred from the uterine cavity on the unaffected side. Treatment was by abdominal metroplasty with complete excision of the uterine septum and a terminal cuff salpingostomy. Urological investigation revealed ipsilateral renal agenesis.

5/12. Computed tomography of unilateral hematometrocolpos.

A 14-year-old girl presented with urinary retention and a pelvic mass. Computed tomography revealed a uterus didelphys with a unilateral right moderate hematometra and a large hematocolpos.

6/12. hematometra presenting as acute appendicitis: a case report.

A case of intrauterine blood passing into the abdominal cavity and resulting in a clinical picture similar to acute appendicitis is presented. To our knowledge, hematometra presenting in this manner has not been reported in the medical literature. Some disease processes which more commonly mimic acute appendicitis include nonspecific mesenteric adenitis, gynecologic disorders, diverticulitis, and urinary tract infection. Unusual diseases presenting in this manner include splenic torsion, infarcted omentum, ileocecal tuberculosis, and duodenal hematoma.

7/12. Acute urinary retention secondary to uterus didelphys with imperforate vagina.

Cyclic dysmenorrhea, unilateral abdominopelvic mass, acute urinary retention and renal agenesis ipsilateral to the pelvic mass in a young woman suggest uterus didelphys with unilaterally imperforate vagina.

8/12. Cervical uterine atresia with hematometra: a rare cause of urinary retention in a girl.

Atresia of the cervix is a rare congenital anomaly of the female genital system. We describe a girl with urinary retention caused by hematometra and other urinary malformations, for which prior operations had been performed.

9/12. A case of unique communication between blind-ending ectopic ureter and ipsilateral hemi-hematocolpometra in uterus didelphys.

uterus didelphys with double vagina and hemi-vaginal atresia is a rare syndrome of congenital anomalies. A 17-year-old girl had a right blind-ending ectopic ureter, the proximal end of which communicated with the ipsilateral uterine cervix of uterus didelphys. The patient presented with vaginal urinary incontinence after incision of the vaginal wall for right hemi-hematocolpometra. Following various examinations, the ipsilateral kidney was found to be absent. The ectopic ureter and communicating duct were resected, and the fistula was closed. The genesis of malformation of the female genitalia and urinary tract resulting in such a unique communication is discussed. The importance of preoperative meticulous examinations, including cysto-genitography, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging and panendoscopy with the patient under anesthesia, is emphasized.

10/12. hematometra in an unattached rudimentary uterine horn and ipsilateral renal agenesis.

This report describes an adolescent female with a functioning unattached rudimentary blind uterine horn who presented with dysmenorrhea, severe lower abdominal pain and a pelvic mass. She had been unsuccessfully treated with prostaglandin inhibitors, and in her past history several episodes of urinary tract infections were reported. Removal of the uterine horn afforded complete relief of symptoms.
