/98. A case of leiomyoma of the breast.Leiomyomas are common in the genitourinary and gastrointestinal tracts and less frequent in skin and soft tissue. It is quite uncommon for them to develop in the breast, especially in the breast parenchyma. Only 12 cases of leiomyoma in the breast parenchyma proper apart from the areola have been reported. We present a thirteenth case, the first to be reported in japan. Its clinical features, mammographic and ultrasonographic findings, histological and immunohistochemical characteristics are quite consistent with previous reports.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. Spontaneous expulsion of a uterine submucosal leiomyoma after administration of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist.A 40-year-old primigravida presented with acute urine retention. Ultrasound examination revealed a large uterine submucosal leiomyoma and GnRH-a was administered. The leiomyoma grew to over twice its original size and protruded through the introitus. After 10 days, it was expelled completely and removed by resectohysteroscopy. The expulsion of the leiomyoma was most likely a result of GnRH-a's flare-up effect.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 2.9348772461013keywords = retention (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. leiomyoma of the urethra in a Mexican woman: a rare neoplasm associated with the expression of estrogen receptors by immunohistochemistry.BACKGROUND: leiomyoma of the female urethra is a rare condition, although it can occur anywhere along the genitourinary tract. methods: We report on a 22-year-old woman found to have a urethral mass detected in our hospital delivery room. Examination showed a 6 X 5-cm mass at the urethral meatus. RESULTS: Pathologic examination revealed urethral leiomyoma. immunohistochemistry confirmed leiomyoma with positive staining for vimentin, desmin, and actin. Immunoreactivity for estrogen receptors was also detected. CONCLUSIONS: Because this lesion was discovered while the patient was pregnant and it showed immunoreactivity for estrogen receptors, it is suggested that increased estrogen levels could accelerate smooth muscle growth.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. leiomyoma of the vesicovaginal septum.A 69-year-old woman presented with a solid homogenous mass in the area of the posterior wall of the urinary bladder. A transvaginal approach was used to remove the mass located in the vesicovaginal septum. histology revealed a benign smooth spindle cell tumor and immunohistochemistry confirmed leiomyoma.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. leiomyoma in the space of Retzius: a report of 2 cases.Leiomyomas most frequently occur in the genitourinary and gastrointestinal system. This report discusses clinical and pathologic findings of 2 leiomyomas in the pubovesical space, a location that has not been described before. Different operative approaches were used for excision. Immunohistochemical examination for the presence of estrogen and progesterone receptors was performed.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. Vaginal leiomyoma--an imitator of prolapse.Vaginal leiomyoma is a rare tumor with a variable clinical presentation and broad differential diagnosis that can lead to preoperative misdiagnosis. We present a case of vaginal leiomyoma with a symptom complex of prolapse, urinary urgency and urge incontinence. A 50-year-old woman presented with a 4-year history of deteriorating sensation of prolapse, significant complex urinary complaints and prolonged vaginal bleeding. Clinical examination revealed a mobile 6 x 8 cm mass arising from the anterior vaginal wall. She underwent hysteroscopy, curettage, urethrocystoscopy (normal findings) and mass enucleation through a vertical incision. histology showed a benign leiomyoma. ultrasonography, MRI, positive-pressure urethrography and urethrocystoscopy should be considered in the evaluation of an anterior wall vaginal mass. Surgical enucleation via a vaginal approach is the treatment of choice. If this surgical procedure results in skeletonization of the urethral and bladder support, a colporrhaphy/pubourethral ligament plication is required.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 2keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. leiomyoma of the genitourinary tract.OBJECTIVE: To review our experience and the literature with respect to leiomyomas of the genitourinary tract with special emphasis on the role of the clinical presentation and imaging studies in the differential diagnosis. MATERIAL AND methods: During a period of 35 years in our department, five patients were treated with symptomatic leiomyomas, originating from the renal pelvis, bladder, urethra and epididymis. All the cases were diagnosed after exploration, excision and histological examination of the specimen. Following the presentation of the five cases of leiomyomas of the genitourinary tract, we reviewed the literature with special emphasis on the modern imaging techniques, differential diagnosis and treatment approach. CONCLUSION: Complete excision followed by histological examination is the most reliable means of distinguishing leiomyoma from other more common and usually malignant tumors of the genitourinary tract.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 7keywords = urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. leiomyoma of vesicovaginal septum causing urinary retention.A case of leiomyoma of the vesicovaginal septum causing acute urinary retention and an unusual radiographic filling defect in the flood of the bladder is presented. This is a rare lesion which can be the source of confusion. It has similar microscopic appearance to lesions which the patient had previously in the esophagus and stomach, left labia, and the uterus. Microscopically, all of the tumors were benign.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 440.35544343838keywords = urinary retention, retention, urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. Rapid enlargement of uterine myomas after laparoscopic bipolar coagulation of uterine vessels.Degenerative changes occur relatively frequently in uterine leiomyomas. Morphologic changes such as necrosis, hyalinization, and alterations in cellularity are described after uterine artery embolization. A modified method to interrupt the uterine blood supply is laparoscopic bipolar coagulation of uterine vessels (LBCUV). Although the success rate is good, occasional patients require hysterectomy because of complications or continuing symptoms. A woman with symptomatic myomas underwent LBCUV, but required hysterectomy due to rapid enlargement of myomas and intractable symptoms including pelvic pain and pressure, and acute urinary retention. The combination of degenerative and iatrogenic changes resulted in a histologic appearance resembling diffuse hyalinization and hydropic degeneration of the leiomyomas.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 88.071088687676keywords = urinary retention, retention, urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/98. Red degeneration of a leiomyoma masquerading as retained products of conception.BACKGROUND: The incidence of leiomyomas in pregnancy is approximately 1%. Their presence has been linked to spontaneous abortion, premature labor, soft tissue dystocia, uterine inertia, fetopelvic disproportion, malposition of the fetus, retention of the placenta, and postpartum hemorrhage. CASE: This case report documents a seldom-described event of a submucous leiomyoma masquerading as retained products of conception. The patient presented 4 weeks postpartum with complaints of urinary retention and heavy bleeding with cramping. Examination revealed a large mass resembling placental tissue filling the vaginal vault. The necrotic mass was removed with blunt and sharp dissection. The final pathology report revealed a degenerating leiomyoma. CONCLUSION: Complicating factors associated with this fibroid included a history of spontaneous abortion and preterm labor, as well as fetal malpresentation and carneous degeneration of the leiomyoma. Gestational myomas, although rare, can have an unusual appearance that may be misinterpreted.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 91.005965933777keywords = urinary retention, retention, urinary (Clic here for more details about this article) |
