1/3. Fusobacterium osteomyelitis in a child with sickle cell disease.

Children who have sickle cell disease are at increased risk for osteomyelitis caused by salmonella spp. and staphylococcus aureus. We report a case of anaerobic osteomyelitis caused by fusobacterium nucleatum in a child with sickle cell disease. The infection did not resolve with antibiotic therapy alone, but was cured after surgical debridement and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

2/3. osteomyelitis of the pelvis due to fusobacterium nucleatum.

Anaerobic pelvic osteomyelitis occurs rarely in children. A case of fusobacterium nucleatum osteomyelitis of the right ilium [correction of ileum] in a child without apparent risk factors is described. This case emphasizes the value of diagnostic aspirates. Therapy with a combination of intravenous and oral clindamycin led to successful resolution of the infection.

3/3. Recurrent vertebral osteomyelitis and psoas abscess caused by streptococcus constellatus and fusobacterium nucleatum in a patient with atrial septal defect and an occult dental infection.

We describe a case in which recurrent vertebral osteomyelitis and psoas abscess due to streptococcus constellatus and fusobacterium nucleatum developed in a patient with a previously unrecognized atrial septal defect with bidirectional shunts. disease recurrence was ascribed to the presence of dental disease, which served as the source of infection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case in which vertebral osteomyelitis and psoas abscess have been associated with atrial septal defect.
