/25. Successful pregnancy in an infertile patient with conservatively treated endometrial adenocarcinoma after transfer of embryos obtained by intracytoplasmic sperm injection.A rare case of successful pregnancy in a woman with early-stage endometrial adenocarcinoma conservatively treated is presented. The patient, having polycystic ovaries, was initially diagnosed with hyperplasia of the endometrium and treated with several cycles of ovulation induction following intrauterine insemination. Then dilatation and curettage were carried out when hysteroscopy was performed. The histology report identified a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. After repeated endometrial curettage, in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer were introduced for immediate treatment of the patient's infertility in order to avoid the risk of recurrence of neoplastic endometrial lesions by oestrogens. A single pregnancy was achieved after transfer of the embryos obtained after intracytoplasmic sperm injection. This was performed due to the poor semen characteristics (asthenozoospermia). The patient delivered a healthy normal male infant at term. A transvaginal ultrasound examination 2 months after delivery showed a smooth, linear endometrium. Moreover, the histology report after endometrial biopsy was free of any malignancies. The patient now desires another pregnancy. We conclude that conservative treatment of early-stage endometrial adenocarcinoma in young women wishing to preserve fertility should be considered in carefully selected cases. Assisted reproductive technologies may be helpful for immediate achievement of pregnancy in such patients.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Twin delivery after myomectomy, in vitro fertilization, and embryo reduction in an infertile woman.A 28-year-old patient had metroplasty performed because of necrosis of a uterine fibroid. During follow-up, the left adnexa were removed because of a recurrent left ovarian cyst. The triplet gestation achieved by in vitro fertilization was reduced to twins. The living premature newborns were delivered abdominally.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.66666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor. A case report.Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNT) is a rare, benign tumor encountered in the cortex. It is characterized by the presence of cells of different histogenesis. Due to its mixed nature (glial-neuronal), WHO histological classification of brain tumors included it into the group of neuronal and glial-neuronal mixed tumors. Case of tumor in a 19-year-old woman experiencing for three years seizure of temporal lobe epilepsy is presented. A cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed "pseudocystic" tumor in temporal lobe. Histological and immunocytochemical examinations of the tumor fragment removed during surgery revealed large numbers of neuronalglial nodules occurring in the cerebral cortex. Columns of glial-neuronal structures crossing parallely to the cortex surface, surrounded by oligodendrocyte-like cells (OLC) were a characteristic feature of the tumor texture. In the tumor interstitium, "floating" maturated, dysplastic-free ganglionic cells were visible in numerous bright spaces. In addition, numerous lobuliform--structured areas consisted of oligodendrocyte-like cells. Oligodendrocyte-like cells were characterized by positive immunoreaction to the presence of S-100 protein and synaptophysin. Basing on clinical manifestation and histopathological findings dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor was diagnosed.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Postoperative tailored radiotherapy for locally advanced breast carcinoma during pregnancy: a therapeutic dilemma.A 45-year-old woman with breast carcinoma was found to be pregnant during postoperative radiotherapy. The pregnancy was desired. We performed in vivo and phantom radiation dosimetry. No effects on the embryo or treatment disadvantages for the patient were expected. Thirty-six months post partum the baby is healthy and the mother is free of disease.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Immature teratoma with gliomatosis peritonei associated with pregnancy.Immature teratoma, which contains variable quantities of immature tissues that resemble those of the embryo, is one of the primitive germ cell tumors. It occurs most frequently in young women but it is rarely reported in association with pregnancy. We report a case of immature teratoma associated with pregnancy exhibiting unique MR findings with pathologic correlation.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. pregnancy and delivery in a patient with metastatic embryonal sarcoma of the liver.BACKGROUND: Embryonal sarcoma of the liver is a rare undifferentiated mesenchymal neoplasm with a grave prognosis. CASE: We report a spontaneous uneventful pregnancy in a young woman with recurrent metastatic embryonal sarcoma of the liver after hepatectomy (twice) and radiochemotherapy. The patient chose to continue pregnancy despite her general condition and possible hazards to maternal and fetal well-being. She gave birth to a full-term healthy infant. Her disease recurred shortly after the delivery. CONCLUSION: According to a computerized search of the National Library of medicine database, from 1966 to present, using the search terms "embryonal (or undifferentiated) sarcoma" and "liver" without language restrictions, this is the first reported case of pregnancy and delivery in a patient with embryonal sarcoma of the liver. It illustrates the clinical and ethical dilemmas associated with this complicated condition.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1.1666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. A case of twin pregnancy with complete hydatidiform mole and coexisting fetus following IVF-ET.Twin pregnancy consisting of complete hydatidiform mole (H-mole) and a coexisting fetus occurs with an estimated incidence of 1 per 22,000-100,000 pregnancies. The incidence of this unusual twin pregnancy with complete H-mole and a coexisting fetus after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) is not thought to be greater than that of general population. We present an unusual twin pregnancy with complete H-mole and a coexisting fetus that occurred following IVF-ET, which was terminated at 21 weeks of gestation and developed into nonmetastatic gestational trophoblastic tumor.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Embryonal sarcoma of the liver in pregnancy, associated with hellp syndrome. After cesarean section, a 30-year-old patient with hellp syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count in association with preeclampsia) had fever, jaundice, loss of ascites, and a cardiac murmur. magnetic resonance imaging showed a tumor extending from the left lobe of the liver into the inferior vena cava, right atrium, and ventricle. The biopsy specimen revealed an embryonal sarcoma of the liver. On the second day of chemotherapy, the patient died of intra-abdominal hemorrhage from the tumor.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. Herceptin (trastuzumab) therapy during pregnancy: association with reversible anhydramnios.BACKGROUND: Herceptin (trastuzumab), a new a chemotherapeutic agent, is a monoclonal antibody that blocks the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 protein. There is no reported experience with use of this agent during pregnancy and possible effects on the fetus. CASE: A patient with breast cancer was treated with Herceptin during pregnancy. This treatment was associated with anhydramnios, which resolved slowly after the drug was discontinued. CONCLUSION: Although listed as a category B drug, experience with Herceptin in human pregnancy is limited, and it should be used with caution. Investigation of the role of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 protein in the embryonic kidney may further our understanding of amniotic fluid dynamics.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/25. hysterectomy in a malignant molar pregnancy and a healthy baby.hydatidiform mole is a degenerative chorion disturbance of unknown etiology. It is characterized by a permanent whitish enlargement of the chorionic villi with a grape-like appearance and poor vascularization. The symptoms of a molar pregnancy are nausea and vomiting which are present in more than one-third of the patients. Other symptoms include an enlarged uterus and vaginal bleeding. Our patient was a 19-year-old primipara with a twin pregnancy where one embryo was molar. diagnosis was confirmed by beta-hCG levels.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.16666666666667keywords = embryo (Clic here for more details about this article) |
