1/3. rupture of the rectosigmoid colon with evisceration of the small bowel through the anus.Spontaneous rupture of the rectosigmoid colon and herniation of the small intestine through the rupture site and eventual evisceration through the anus is a very rare event. In the literature, only 42 cases have been reported. The majority of them occurred in patients with rectal prolapse and one case was reported in association with a third-degree uterine prolapse. We experienced an 81-year-old female patient with rectal prolapse and second-degree uterine prolapse complicated by spontaneous perforation of the rectosigmoid colon and anal evisceration of the small intestine. Segmental resection of the nonviable small intestine, primary repair of the ruptured rectosigmoid colon, and sigmoid loop colostomy were performed, and the patient recovered well. In our patient, both rectal and uterine prolapses cooperatively damaged the anterior wall of the rectosigmoid colon and resulted in perforation. So, rectal and uterine prolapses should be treated before the complication develops. In this patient, uterine prolapse should be treated because of the recurrence of this rare episode.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = herniation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
2/3. Incarcerated rectal prolapse--rupture and ileal evisceration after failed reduction: report of a case.We report a case of incarcerated rectal prolapse that could not be reduced after using the previously described application of ordinary table sugar. Gentle pressure caused the prolapsed rectum to perforate, and the small bowel herniated through the tear. This is only the second case reported in the literature of an ileal herniation through a perforated rectum after an attempted reduction of an incarcerated prolapse. It is the only reported case occurring after sugar application and the 42nd case of ileal herniation through the rectum from all causes.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 2keywords = herniation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
3/3. Neurofibromatosis of the colon and rectum combined with other manifestations of von Recklinghausen's disease: report of a case.Gastrointestinal involvement of neurofibromatosis occurs in as many as 25 percent of cases. neurofibroma occurs most frequently in the stomach and jejunum, but the colon may also be involved. This condition is characterized by multiple submucosal neurofibromas of the gastrointestinal tract and cafe au lait pigmentation, bony abnormalities, and neurofibromas of both central and peripheral nerves. The lesions consist of an overgrowth of neural tissue along with other mesenchymal elements. Gastrointestinal neurofibromas may cause occult bleeding, luminal obstruction, or intussusception. Malignant transformation into neurofibrosarcoma is rare. We encountered a case of neurofibromatosis diffusely involving the left colon, the sigmoid colon, and the rectum, which resulted in herniation of the mass through the anus, with intestinal obstruction. The patient also showed skin lesions of the neurofibromatosis. We report this case with a review of the literature.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = herniation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
