/15. Pregnancy following bromocryptine therapy for the amenorrhoea-galactorrhoea syndrome due to a pituitary tumour.A woman developed amenorrhoea and galactorrhoea after partial removal of a pituitary tumor during pregnancy. Hyperprolactinaemia was supressed by therapy with bromocryptine (CB 154, Sandoz) resulting in cessation of galactorrhoea in two months, spontaneous menstruation after eight months, and pregnancy after twelve months.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. Another adult with Meier-Gorlin syndrome--insights into the natural history. The Meier-Gorlin syndrome (MGS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder, characterized by bilateral microtia, aplasia or hypoplasia of the patellae, and severe intrauterine and post-natal growth retardation. We describe the phenotype and report the medical history of a 25-year-old woman with MGS. Her phenotypic evolution was characterized by severe growth retardation with decelerated growth of the head and subsequently a relatively small head, normal intelligence, alteration of the facial features to a more proportionate appearance, improvement of joint function and incomplete breast development. Other characteristics of her phenotype in adulthood include a cheerful personality, a high forehead and accentuated naso-labial folds, relatively very small ears, hypoplastic breasts, and normal menstruation.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. Mayer-Rokitansky syndrome and anorectal malformation.Mayer Rokitansky Kuster Houser syndrome (MRKH syndrome) is characterized by Mullerian duct structures agenesis, vaginal atresia being the commonest variant. It can be associated with renal, skeletal, spine and other malformations. Patient with Mayer Rokitansky syndrome has a varied presentation from newborn period to adolescence. Thorough investigations are required for classification of the syndrome and diagnosis of associated anomalies. The MRKH syndrome patient may require complex vaginal reconstructive surgery and a detailed counseling about the potentials of menstruation and fertility. Here we are presenting a patient having association of anorectal malformation, Mullerian duct agenesis and renal anomaly.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. What is the minimal uterine cavity needed for a normal pregnancy? An extreme case of Asherman syndrome. There are no reports on the subsequent anatomic findings in women with intrauterine adhesions who conceived and delivered after therapy, but our experience indicates that most of these women menstruate and conceive normally. The recurrence of intrauterine adhesions, together with preserved fertility in this patient, suggest that fertility, while usually correlated with subsequent resumption of normal menstruation and anatomy, may sometimes be independent of these features.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. Statistical analysis of fever interval data.Periodic fever syndromes usually do not show a clear fixed periodicity, and hence cannot be described by the mean and the standard deviation of the interval length. In those cases statistical tools must be used. fever interval data can be described as a random point process; the renewal density function and its Fourier transform can be used to uncover hidden periodicities. In this report the estimation and evaluation of the renewal density function are described. The data of three patients with periodic fever were investigated. In one of these patients, suffering from periodic fever originating at the level of the hypothalamus, a 30-day periodicity was observed. In a female patient with hyperimmunoglobulinaemia D and periodic fever, menstruation often coincided with or was preceded by a fever episode. In the third patient with a Familial Hibernian fever-like syndrome, an irregular fever pattern and no periodicity were found. The computerized analysis of the fever intervals may be useful in assessing various periodic fever syndromes.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. Asherman's syndrome--a self-limiting disease?Intrauterine adhesions (Asherman's syndrome) may follow curettage in a recently pregnant uterus. Treatment consisting of dilatation and curettage and possibly the insertion of an intrauterine device usually is started early. The success rate is high. Very few cases of spontaneous recurring menstruation have been reported, and none of them have been based on hysterosalpingographic evidence of adhesions. The pregnancy outcome is generally poor in those cases of assumed spontaneous resolution. We present a case of spontaneous restitution of a functional uterine cavity and normal menstruation following Asherman's syndrome. Subsequent pregnancy was uneventful. A short review of the literature is presented, and the possible self-limiting character of the disease is discussed.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 2keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. endometriosis in a patient with Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome. This case with Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome and right ovarian endometriosis was previously presented as a proof against the transplant theory of Sampson. New operative findings showed a functioning endometrium in a right occult rudimentary horn and retrograde menstruation through the Fallopian tube with hematosalpinx, tubal endometriosis, right ovarian and appendicular endometriosis.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. Catamenial pneumothorax--a literature review and report of an unusual case.As already mentioned, only a few cases of CPT were described in the international medical literature, though there probably are some publications in languages unknown to us. It is quite possible that this syndrome is much more common than known to us, but until now there has been a lack of awareness of it. It may be presumed that in some of the cases of women complaining of some discomfort during menstruation, thorough examination would reveal a mild spontaneous pneumothorax which doesn't require any special treatment and is self-resolving; but most gynecologists are not thoroughly aware of this entity. While examining the clinical findings it is possible to demonstrate that this syndrome has its own clinical characteristics, totally different from those of spontaneous pneumothorax in the population as a whole. One of the characteristics of the syndrome is the assumption that women who do not ovulate, as women during the menarche, pregnant women and women taking contraceptive medications, are not subject to CPT. A case described in this review contradicts this assumption, although treatment with ovulatory suppressants, successfully used so far, should not be undervalued. The etiology and pathogenesis of this syndrome was and still is enigmatic. The accumulated knowledge so far does not point to any one etiologic factor. Therefore the suggested treatment, before definitive operative treatment, is so far experimental only, and its chances of success in any particular case are unpredictable.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. The treatment with 2-brom-alfa ergocriptine in the syndrome amenorrhea-galactorrhea.In this study, the authors present the results obtained in thirteen cases with amenorrhea-galactorrhea treated with 2-brom-alfa-ergocriptine in which the menstruation has reoccurred in eleven patients, three of them becoming pregnant. The authors have accurately described the evolution of the three pregnancies, which were delivered at term and the children born were normal. The present study was elaborated in the Sterility Department of the Clinic of obstetrics and gynecology "Giulesti", University School of medicine, Bucharest. The study refers to the use of 2-brom-alfa-ergocriptine (Parlodel-Sandoz) in the treatment of the amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome associated with sterility.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/15. amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome with craniopharyngioma. Two cases of craniopharyngioma presenting with amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome due to hyperprolactinemia are reported. After operation and irradiation, the tumor reduced markedly in size. Coincidental decrease in plasma prolactin level and restoration of menstruation seem to support the view that the hypothalamic prolactin inhibiting factor (PIF) had played an important role in hyperprolactinemia in these two patients.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = menstruation (Clic here for more details about this article) |
