How much of a deficiency of iron must be present to trigger PICA?
I am anemic, and suffered with PICA as a small child, but only like 3 times as an adult have I had any relapses of it. I was just curious as to how much of a deficiency is needed to set of PICA?
----------
There is no specific iron level at which pica occurs.

What could be a possible reason for a vitamin D deficiency?
I drink milk everyday, I eat a vitamin D enriched cereal with milk, I take a multivitamin, and I eat yogurt, not everyday but at least twice a week.
Yet, I have a Vitamin D deficiency. What could the reason be?
I get a lot of sun too. I live in the south and I'm outside quite a bit.
----------
The best source of vitamin D is sunlight onto bare skin. Dietary sources are usually not that high in vitamin d, even if you eat all those things regularly would would maybe get 50% of your RDI from them. The highest dietary source is cod liver oil by far.
There are two types of vitamin D put in supplements, D2 and D3. D3 is the more natural form and is far more effective than the D2 variant as it converts to the usable form in the body at a much higher rate.
Also with supplements, the amount that actually get absorbs matters a lot too. I've been using nfuze (link below) which is the first multi-vitamin with nanotechnology for the maximum absorption of the vitamins and nutrients.
It can take a while to fix a vitamin D deficiancy, you would need to take either cod liver oil or something like nfuze and try and maximise your sun exposure for a while to get your levels right up. (

What are the side effects of a Blood Sugar Deficiency?
My friend noticed my hands shaking today in class. He asked me if I had a blood sugar deficiency. I told him I didn't know. I've also noticed I have more gas and more trips to the bathroom lately. What are the side effects of a blood sugar deficiency? How will I know if i have it? How do you get it back up to normal levels?
----------
Your hands can be shaky and you could feel faint. If this happens then drink some orange juice or eat a sugar cube.
To really find out if you are diabetic go to the doctor and have him write an order for blood work. They will only take no more than 3 tubes which are about the size of your ring finger.
Good luck and hope you feel better. (

Is it possible to develop iron deficiency anemia, without having heavy menstrual periods?
Today I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. I can't seem to think of a reason for this, because I don't think I have heavy periods . Can anyone help me?
----------
Yes. Most women are a little bit anemic because of menstruation. For a woman who is naturally anemic menstruation can make it worse even if it isn't heavy. You just need to get more iron in your diet is all. (

What treatments, drugs, or vitamins would you suggest to someone who has iron-deficiency anemia?
What treatments, drugs, or vitamins would you suggest to someone who has iron-deficiency anemia? What would you suggest to someone who has pernicious anemia?
----------
I have iron-deficient anemia and the nurse told me to stop drinking so much tea (b/c tea blocks iron absorbtion), eat more greens, fish, eggs, take vitamin B12 or iron.
not sure about the other. (

Does sudden yellow teeth indicate a particular vitamin deficiency?
I've been an orange juice junkie my whole life, but I've been without it for a month now and just noticed my bottom teeth are definitely more yellow than before. I'm wondering if the two could be related. Is this a sign of a Vitamin C or some other vitamin deficiency?
----------
This is from http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dentistry-966/toddlers-teeth-turning-yellow.htm
says: The yellow color is probably a surface stain. It is certainly not from a nutritional or vitamin deficiency, nor is it a symptom of an illness. (

How long will it take for my vitamin D deficiency to get better?
I was diagnosed as having a severe deficiency (9.7) and started taking prescription supplements. I was wondering how long it took others to start feeling less fatigued and achy once they got treatment. (My doctor is out of town so I have to wait to ask her.)
----------
your doctor will do more blood work to see what the new level is. Be sure that you are taking vitamin D3 which is natural like from sunlight and if you only take 10,000 - 15,000 IU or so on prescription then you can get the same from dietary supplements OTC and save some money. Just tell your doctor (
