How long do viral eye infections take to go away?

I've been seeing an opthamologist for almost a month. He told me I have a viral infection in the eye. He also said there is no medicine to cure this type of an infection. My vision is blurry in the eye. Is it possible for an eye infection to take this long to go away?
----------

It definatily can...it can take a few days to a few months-maybe even a year. My boss has an viral eye infection that is lasting over five months now. It is a rare virus, but it took over her vision and now she cannot see out of one eye and flies from Hawaii to San Francisco to get treated every other week! Yikes  (+ info)

How can you tell the difference between influenza and viral bronchitis?

am coughing up phlegm that is sometimes colored, sometimes clear. nose mucous is sometimes clear, sometimes yellow. had 100 degree fever. muscle aches. retching and nausea. amoxicillin did nothing to help. motrin relieved fever and muscle aches. cough and stuffy nose still present. feeling weak. eyes feel puffy. is it a case of minor viral bronchitis or is it the flu?
----------

Either way, it sounds like you need to see your doctor. The fever and colored phlegm lead me to believe that the MD will probably put you on antibiotics and probably a stronger prescription cough med to let you rest better.

Influenza is usually overwhelming symptoms that really and truly knock you off your feet and put you to bed for several days. It is head, chest, cough, fever, muscle aches.
Bronchitis can be viral or bacterial, and can sometimes settle into pneumonia if it lingers too long. Main symptoms is cough (sometimes productive), fever, chest pain, wheezes/rattles, etc.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon  (+ info)

How long does a viral infection usually last?

I've had what I think is a viral infection since Sunday. While my throat no longer hurts, I still have very little to no energy, and my head is still extremely stuffed up and at other times it's just pounding. My body temperature has also been somwhat erratic. I do feel like I'm getting a little better each day but it's going so slow. How long does this thing usually last and would going to the doctor even matter at this point?
----------

It depends on the virus. If its mono it can last months. If its a typical flue/cold days to weeks.
You can get secondary bacterial infections that can smolder.
The lack of energy is from cytokines that go up during the infection. As long as they are there you feel tired. Chronic fatigue people have a low grade level 24/7 x 360 days/year. If you feel your going downhill after 5 days seeing a Dr. would be a good idea.  (+ info)

How high does the viral count have to be for Hepatitis B to be concerned?

I have a friend who's viral count for hepatitis that's about 40 million. Is this dangerous?
----------

yes, viral loads above 2000 are worrisome. The higher the viral load, the more likely you are to get liver cancer, for example. Also, viral load can correlate with liver damage. This is in contrast to hepatitis C where it does not correlate. This person needs evaluation by a hepatologist (liver specialist). I would start by looking at http://www.hepb.org/resources/liver_specialist_directory.htm  (+ info)

How long does the viral version of Pink Eye last?

I woke up with Pink Eye Monday and went to the doctor, who said it was viral. Today (tuesday) it has gotten a little worse. I only have gunk in my eyes when I first wake up. How many more days will I have it? And when will the redness start to lessen?
----------

It is very odd that a doctor would see you and tell you that your infection is viral with out testing it.
Pink eye is not viral though it is bacterial. The only way to treat it is to take antibiotics or antibiotic eye drops.

Maybe he saw your eye and thought you have an upper respiratory virus that is irritating your eyes and is therefore nothing anyone can do.

In that case it will last as long as a cold would last 3-7 days.
I would be surprised that he didnt swab it and send it to the lab though to be sure it isn't pink eye  (+ info)

How long is a viral sore throat contagious?

My boyfriend started having a sore throat on Friday. As the weekend went on, the pain got worse an he also ran a fever of 101.3. He went to the doctor today (Monday) and was told that it was not strep, just a viral thing. He does not have a fever today, but his throat still hurts; however it hurts less than it did. How long do you think he will be contagious? I have already been sick for a month and do not need to catch anything else! Thanks!
He wasn't given any medicine because it's not strep or anything and medicines wouldn't help a virus.
----------

Once the symptoms stop that means that the body is done fighting and has either lost or won the battle with the virus.

After that, perhaps a day or two and he shouldn't be contagious. He will still have the virus n his body, but it wont hurt you because there isn't enough...  (+ info)

How can you tell the difference between bacterial meningitis and viral meningitis?

I've been diagnosed with viral meningitis but I'm not sure the doctor was right since I've never gotten a spinal tap to check the fluids. I need to know if I can distinguish between the two kinds of meningitis. The faster and more informative the response, the better.
----------

When did you first become ill if it was 3 days or more ago then it is viral otherwise you would be dead. If it has been less then 3 days go to you local ER asap and tell them what your dr told you. Your dr is an idiot for saying that the only way to see if it is meningitis is to do an LP or grow blood cultures. I think what you have is viral because if it was bacterial you would not be able to be sitting on the computer.

For all you know you don't have Meningitis at all.
Good luck and i hope your feeling better soon  (+ info)

What is the treatment of Anemia causes by viral infection? Is infection can still exist after taken Antibiotic?

What is the treatment of Anemia causes by viral infection? Is the infection can still exist even after taken Antibiotic?

Have any specific symptoms to detect whether it has caused by iron deficiency or viral infection?
----------

Ok, first off antibiotics don't treat viral infections, only bacterial ones. So sure, it can still exist.

Anemia symptoms are pretty much the same, no matter what causes the anemia. Unless you have other symptoms that also result from the same underlying problem. I'm assuming that you know from blood tests that you actually have anemia, and not something else. If not, please go see your doctor, since there could be other things going on. For example, you could have a deficiency in your platelets, too, which can be a bigger deal than the anemia.

To treat anemia caused by a viral infection, assuming it's not severe enough to require a transfusion, you just have to have either an iron-rich diet or take an iron supplement.  (+ info)
