For someone who has hepatitis C and they want to detect their viral loads in their bloodstream?

Can someone explain to me what is the normal viral load and high viral load. I will gladly appreciated.
----------

As Bayla and Stephanie said, there is no "normal" viral load. A viral load of less than 1,000,000 (or by some scales 800,000 IU's) is considered low, anything over that is considered high. However, it is very typical for people with hepatitis c (HCV) to have viral loads in the millions and tens of millions. There is no correlation between your viral load and how much damage has occurred to the liver, but there is a correlation between the viral load and how probable it is to clear the virus on treatment. That doesn't mean someone with a high viral load won't clear the virus; it just means they may have to be on treatment for a little longer time. Hope this helps. Best wishes.  (+ info)

What is the difference between a diagnosis of viral infection and viral syndrome??

My 9month old has been diagnosed with viral syndrome. I have never heard this term before and was wondering if it is different from viral infection
----------

A syndrome is a group of related symptoms.
Viral syndrome means that your child exhibits symptoms typically seen with a viral infection, so the diagnosis is viral infection and was made based on the symptoms.  (+ info)

Is it normal to feel dizzy and weak after a viral illness?

Last week I had a viral illness known as Hand, Foot & Mouth disease, and was on a liquid diet for an entire week, and lost 3lbs. I am now back on eating solids and the virus has run its course and I am feeling better. I went out today and found that after being on my feet for about 20 minutes, I felt tired, weak and dizzy. Is this normal?
----------

Yes. When you are sick you require nourishment, and a solid liquid diet doesn't quite give you all the nourishment you need. Similarly, if you've been bed ridden for a week with this illness it is expected for you to be dizzy and weak. You've been inactive for a week, your muscles begin to break down and weaken because you aren't using them. So when you do use them again, a week later (now), it may take them a couple days to get used to be used again.

You're okay. Just eat your healthy foods, drink water, and take it easy for a couple days until you feel like you're back to 100%  (+ info)

What are some helpful ways to keep my Daughter Hydrated during her Viral Infection?

My Daughter is 10 months old and she has a Viral Infection, with a High Fever after the Meds wear off. My Dr says the most important thing is to keep her well Hydrated, however, she is taking spurts where she does not want anything at all do to with her bottle- Whether it be Pedialyte, juice, or Formula. Any helpful tips?
Maddys Mummy- Yes, is there something wrong with being formula fed???
----------

Try those 100% juice Popsicles. This would be something new and fun and tasty which will provide fluid. Also try some sonic ice. Just let her suck on a piece and it melts its still fluids. If all else fails then take a medicine syringe ( the type you give her meds in) and squirt some water in her mouth every 15 min and she should stay hydrated! good luck!  (+ info)

How long does it take for viral sore throat to clear up?

I've been sick for 7 days with viral pharyngitis. how long will it take for me to get back to school?
----------

If you are sure it is viral........usually 7-10 days. Gargle with warm salt water=== a FEW shakes of salt in 8 oz glass or if you have 0.9% saline (same as your body fluids) to soothe the throat. Try not to talk to keep the vocal cords from getting irritated.
I would double check with your healthcare professional but if it is viral and you are 7 days out, you were probably more contagious than when you got sick and you should be able to go back to school if no fever and use common sense in washing your hands/santitize them and not cough in other's direction.
Get plenty of sleep and take it easy for a few more days-as in if you are in sports you may want to lay back just a bit.  (+ info)

How can i tell if i have a bacterial infection or a viral infection?

what's the difference?

and i mean, in a throat-type thing. i'm not sure whether i have strep throat or bacterial tonsillitis or just a viral infection. & do your fevers have to be high for it to be a bacterial infection?
----------

You can get both at the same time!

General rule is if what you're coughing up is clear then it's viral. If coloured then it's bacterial.

Only doctor can say really.  (+ info)

Why do vaccines protect against a specific viral disease?

Why do vaccines protect against a specific viral disease?

A. They don't - only antibiotics protect against viruses.
B. They remain in the body and attack the virus.
C. They stimulate the sweat glands to eliminate the virus from the body.
D. They stimulate the immune system to recognize and kill any virally infected cells the next time you're exposed to the disease.
----------

I select item No.D.
Item No.A- Antibiotics have no effect on viruses because they reside within the living cells.
Item No.B-Vaccines containing live, attenuated microorganisms - these are live micro-organisms that have been cultivated under conditions that disable their virulent properties.
Item No.C-The virus cannot be eliminated through the sweat glands.
Item No.D-They typically provoke more durable immunological responses and are the preferred type for healthy adults. Examples include yellow fever, measles, rubella, and mumps.  (+ info)
