cubital tunnel syndrome?

I think i may have cubital tunnel syndrome. I really don't even know what this is but todya my pinki and ring finger have both tingled. And they feel wierd my funny bones on both elbows do to. I just hit them really lightly against the couch and they start tingling like I banged them hard. I was wondering if i do have this syndrom is it going to get worse in a few days because it really present in my right hand and thats my righting hand so??? Any info would be appreciated.

Probably yes. Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) is a repetitive stress injury (RSI) that can result in moderate to severe pain and numbness in the elbow and ring & little fingers. Untreated, CuTS can result in extreme pain, surgery or an unusable hand.

Your symptoms may get better in a few days. But if your symptoms persist or get much worse, you should contact a hand doctor or surgeon with direct experience treating CuTS (do not rely on a general family doctor for this).

Cubital tunnel syndrome?

For four days now I have been experiencing the symptoms of cubital tunnel syndrome. I am feeling pins and needles in my pinky and ring finger. Also, when I bend my elbow, it kind of hurts. What can I do to speed up the healing process? How long does it take to heal?
Thanks

Go have it checked to find the cause of the cubital tunnel syndrome. May only need exercises or at worst they may need to do surgery to relieve the pressure on the ulnar nerve.  (+ info)

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome/ Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome/ Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.?

I have symptoms of both cubital tunnel syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. It there anyway that I may have both. I use my arms, hands, and wrists a lot. I was in my high schools marching band color guard for 3 years and I went to cosmetology school and been doing hair for about 2 years.
----------

YOu probably have carpal tunnel and epicondylitis because the muscles innervated by the median nerve originate from the elbow. Due to the weakness of the muscles of the hand, the origin of the muscles at the elbow strain to overcome teh weakness and thereby become inflammed causing the tendonitis  (+ info)

reoccuring symptoms of carpel tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome?

have had surgery twice now in 10 years for carpel tunnel and cubital tunnel. Was told that they surgery would last for about 5 years and it is so true. The symtoms did come back 5 years to the day, had surgery again on my hand and then elbow and now its just about 5 years again and Im starting to feel symtoms again in my right hand and elbow. I was wondering will this "feeling" keep coming back every 5 years for the rest of my life? Will I constantly need surgery every 5 years?
Acutally, the employer that I worked for back in 96 gave me such a run around for 8 LONG months, denying that it was work related, I sometimes think that since they made me wait so long to say it was work related that maybe some nerve damage was caused and thats why the symptoms keep coming back. (It finally was proven, months later to be a workers comp claim back then). Within that 5 year time, I moved to Florida, worked for a claims office (less typing) and did advise them that I had sugery on my hands and that maybe the symtoms would come back. When the problem came back, this employer didnt give me the run around like the first on had done and within 2 months, surgery was done again but only in my right hand/elbow. The insurance compay was much nicer to me this time and they even paid me a some for my pain and suffering, unlike the first insurance company. Not that I wanted a hand out from either company, I just wanted my hands fixed and to feel normal again.

In '92 I had 2 carpel tunnel surgeries, (left hand) both failed, then 7 yrs ago the cubital, also failed...each surgery gave me more pain & since the last one I have intorable pain from my hand, up my arm, elbow, shoulder, neck and down my back...I can't hold my head up too long...doctor said there is nothing he can do.
5 years without pain...man...one day would be heaven...I would do anything to stop this suffering.
I hope you don't end up with permanent nerve damage.
Did you have problems with your insurance because of pre-existing condition?  (+ info)

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?

I do weights and stuff and i have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. My problem now is after i have surgery and therapy how long will it take for me to start lifting weights again? Its a big part of my life so will i be able to do it and how long will it take for me to be able to do it? Also I'm 15 years old.
I also do little athletics so also will i be able to do track and field events?
And yes i mean Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and NOT carpal tunnel syndrome.
----------

the recovery time depends on several different factors, so everyone's recovery time is different, but recovery shouldn't be more than a month. as for lifting, that may never be as easy as it is right now, this also depends on several factors. i would imagine that you should regain your strength after about 2 months, and will continue to improve for up to six months after that  (+ info)

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome relief and exercises?

I may have some Cubital Tunnel going on in my right hand. This morning I woke up with the fourth and fifth finger on my right hand somewhat numb. The feeling trailed down towards half of my hand as well. After a Google search, I learned that I may be experiencing some Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. I am not going to the doctor nor getting surgery for this unless it lasts for much longer. So in the mean time, I am looking for ways to relieve this problem at home. There is no pain, just a numb feeling and I can still move them alright. It's been several hours since I woke up and this has not gone away. What kind of relief and/or exercises can be used to relieve this sensation?

Don't you mean carpal tunnel syndrome? For exercises try stretching your fingers. Sometimes that works for me.  (+ info)

Does Cubital Tunnel Syndrome/Ulnar Nerve Damage cause Twitching Muscles?

While doing homework, I stood up and experienced sudden pain in my left elbow. Within an hour, my hand swelled and I started to experience tingling. In spite of various diagnosis by doctors and attempts at cures, I am still experiencing pain in my elbow, as well as tingling and weakness and some swelling. Finally a hand orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome/Ulnar Nerve Damage, gave me drugs (Lodine XL) and a brace to wear.

The past two days, that same arm has been twitching off and on, right above and below my elbow. Is this common with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome/Ulnar Nerve Damage, a side effect of the drugs, or could it be a sign of a misdiagnoses? Should I contact my doctor and let him know? Is there anything I can do to make them go away?
I forgot to mention, the original "injury" if you want to call it that occurred three months ago.

I am sure by now that you know the anatomy of the elbow and how the ulnar nerve drops down on the inside or medial aspect of the elbow. Pressure, a direct blow, or a spur in the canal will cause problems. You are describing what could easily be from continued pressure or it is possible that the nerve is just calming down. I would definitely contact the doctor and make him aware of the problem. He may want to bring you in for another examination. They might want to do an EMG to see if there is something specific that is impeding course of the nerve.  (+ info)

Could I have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?

I have noticed pain in my hands, sometimes severe, when I do things like typing or playing piano for a long time, writing, and especially playing the tuba, where I have to push harder than on a piano or a keyboard to press the valves down. I was afraid that I have carpal tunnel syndrome, but some symptoms are inconsistent with carpal tunnel. Mainly, I get numbness in both sides of my hands. I have noticed that my forearms fall asleep very easily. If I rest my head on my hands with my elbows on a table, they go numb within a few minutes. Even typing this right now, with my elbows resting on the table not even supporting all of the weight of my forearms, I am going a bit numb and making more typing mistakes than when I started. When I have pain, it usually starts at the outside of my hands and gradually works inward. The pain is caused by repeated finger strain, and rarely coincides with the numbness, although when the numbness gets really bad I do sometimes get pain. At this point, the main concern is that it interferes with my piano playing, and I am not able to play as much as I want to (I like to play for 30-60 minutes at a time, but now I can only play for 10-15.) The thing that worries me is that I have frequently been hitting my elbows on things lately, usually resulting in a "funny bone" feeling that sometimes lasts for up to an hour or more. I want to know if these symptoms are consistent enough with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome that I should get tested for it if they don't go away. If not, what else could it be?

Hi, You need to see a doctor and get it evaluated. He may do an Xray to rule out other stuff and may even run a nerve conduction study to confirm neuropraxia or other nerve injuries. He may even give you pills or a steroids shot to relieve pain and symptoms (to start with) and send you for some occupational therapy or to a certified hand therapist (hard to find). Having both hands involved is rare but your activities explain the reason. Repetitive trauma lesions are hard to treat because they occur due to activities that we use everyday. Restrictions and braces work but only temporarily. These injuries usually lead to nagging pain BUT in some case I have seen them to involve autonomic and circulatory system leading to complex sympathetic syndromes (rare but can happen). Yours is definitely a nerve injury esp radiating to the outside of the hand and with involvement of forearm it could very well be ulnar nerve. Carpal is basically wrist down unless it is severe. Ulnar nerve usually radiates to the little finger side so having the numbness over the whole hand doesn't make sense but it could be that you have overlapping symptoms of both carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel. Cubital tunnel is a medical issue and is the second most common nerve compression in upper extremity. The compression is not exactly at the funny bone but a little lower where the ulnar nerve passes under the arcuate ligament (ligament which attaches to radial head and ulna). You can rule out circulatory problems because they most often include color and temperature change and offcourse issues with blood pressure and heart rate. If you are not diabetic you can rule out neuropathies etc. If you donot have a family history of never problems that rules out MS, SLE etc. However there are exception of exotic diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites and antibodies but these are more systemic. Hope this information helped and hope you start to feeling better. Take care.  (+ info)

Can I still do certain activities with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?

I'm pretty certain I have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, because I've had a strange numbing sensation in my elbow and my pinky and ring fingers on my left hand/arm for a while now. I've heard this is fairly common in guitar players, and i have been playing for close to 8 years now. I'm beginning to notice that it is limiting my ability to play. I'm going to a doctor soon, but in the mean time I was wondering if anyone knows should I stop playing guitar and lifting weights until this is healed, or will I be alright if I wear an elbow brace while I sleep to keep my elbow straight? Any suggestions would be great.
----------

Hi, I had Cubital Tunnel Syndrome for 4 years. My symptoms started with pins and needles in my little finger and 1/2 my ring finger when I bent my right arm. Treatment involved keeping my arm straight at night. The doctor suggested rolling up a towel but it's not very effective. My hands always insisted in creeping back up and curling under my chin.
I couldn't find a static brace to keep my arm straight.
After a while, symptoms worsened (over the next 3 years) to the point of pain in the elbow and loss of fine motor skills, I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon. An MRI and an EMG later and surgery was planned.
An Ulnar Nerve Transposition was performed in October 07 and all went well.
I had a fair amount of pain for the first couple of weeks but mended quite quickly after that. I did not have to wear a brace after surgery and was encouraged to use my arm gently as much as possible.
Immediately after surgery the pins and needles were gone and now I am completely pain free and lifting weights at the gym again.
Unfortunately I seem to have developed this in my left elbow, but this time I found an Occupational Therapist and had a night splint custom made (not cheap) but working really well this time.
Definitely seek medical advice for this, if it gets to the point where the nerve is damaged, it cannot be repaired.
Good luck.  (+ info)

are cubital and ulnar tunnel syndrome the same thing?

behind the elbow are called cubital tunnel syndrome. The ulnar nerve passes through the cubital tunnel which is a bony passageway. When you "hit your funny bone" and have tingling in the small and ring fingers, you are hitting the ulnar nerve at the cubital tunnel..hope i answered your question  (+ info)
