Do I have cubital/carpal tunnel syndrome?
My right hand is dominant. I use my right hand's middle finger a lot, like resting my pencil on it to write, using it to dab cover up on my face, and using it to scroll and press keys on my laptop (and no I don't use it to flip anyone off). Recently however, I've been waking up with temporarily numb arms (I bend them a lot and sleep on them), and my middle finger feels hurts a bit when I wiggle it. Is this any sign of tunnel syndrome? I'm very worried.

Ulnar Nerve Transposition for Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?
I want to have this surgery done at the start of Winter Break. Has anyone had it before and can you go over what it was like for you please?
----------
The surgeon opens up from behind the elbow, locates the ulnar nerve(sits at the funny bone area), and transplants it in front of the bone where it will be safe from irritation from the bone or whatever. (

cubital tunnel syndrome surgery question.....?
Anyone out there have the surgery on their elbow? Did it help? I don`t want the surgery if it is not worth it. My hand is to the point of muscle wasting. And the pain is severe at times. How long is the recovery? I have to ocasionly restrain clients on my job so I need a hand that works. I know physical therapy would be needed afterwards but how long is a person generally out of work?
----------
If conservative treatment is successful, you may see improvement in four to six weeks. You may need to continue wearing your elbow pad or splint at night to control symptoms. Try to do your activities using healthy body and wrist alignment. Limit repeated motions of the arm and hand, and avoid positions and activities where the elbow is held in a bent position.
Recovery after elbow surgery depends on the procedure used by your surgeon. If you only had the medial epicondyle removed, you'll have a soft bandage wrapped over your elbow after surgery. Therapy can progress quickly after this type of surgery. Treatments start out with range-of-motion exercises and gradually work into active stretching and strengthening. You just need to be careful to avoid doing too much, too quickly.
Therapy goes slower after ulnar nerve transposition surgery. You could require therapy for three months. This is because the flexor muscles had to be sewn together to form the new tunnel. Your elbow will be placed in a splint and wrapped in bulky dressing, and your elbow will be immobilized for three weeks.
When the splint is removed, therapy will begin with passive movements. In passive exercises, your elbow is moved, but your muscles stay relaxed. Your therapist gently moves your arm and gradually stretches your wrist and elbow. You may be taught how to do passive exercises at home.
Active therapy starts six weeks after surgery. You begin to use your own muscle power in active range-of-motion exercises. Light isometric strengthening exercises are started. You may begin careful strengthening of your hand and forearm by squeezing and stretching special putty. These exercises work the muscles without straining the healing tissues.
At about eight weeks, you'll start doing more active strengthening. Your therapist will give you exercises to help strengthen and stabilize the muscles and joints in the wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Other exercises are used to improve fine motor control and dexterity of the hand.
Some of the exercises you'll do are designed get your elbow working in ways that are similar to your work tasks and sport activities. Your therapist will help you find ways to do your tasks that don't put too much stress on your elbow. Before your therapy sessions end, your therapist will teach you a number of ways to avoid future problems. (

I'm not a medical professional, but it sounds as though you might have pressure on a nerve in your elbow, neck or shoulder that is causing these symptoms. See your family doctor, who will refer you for testing to determine the source of the problem. Don't put it off, because the longer you delay, the greater the possibility of permanent nerve damage. Don't be alarmed, but do follow up soon. (

For 3 months now, my shoulder blades are tight and felt tingling in the arms like cubital tunnel syndrome.?
I ocassionally play tennis but my ortho ruled out tennis.. is it pinched nerve? I've been going to physical therapy and it seems to help after the session but after a few days, it comes back. I went to neuro and ortho doctor and they found a small bulge on my neck.. but only recommended seeing a PT. I already finished my 12 weeks of therapy... didn't help. Any advice? Thanks

I would go to a massage therapist. It could be that your teres minor/major, infraspinatus, and subscapularis are tight and pushing on some of the nerves there. These are often neglected muscles, and they're a bit tricky to work. Find a good massage therapist who can do deep tissue and neuro muscular therapy and get them to focus on that issue. (

can i lift weights if my cubital tunnel syndrome has gone away without surgery?
about 1.5months ago I woke up in the middle of the night because the pinky and the middle finger of my right hand was numb. after that it started to heal using conservative treatment so as of now i can assume that it is healed but the there is a very slight numbness that come and go from time to time. is the slight numbness a part of the healing process? I'm planning on lifting weights after my hand is fully healed is it be possible that the symptoms will not come back? BTW can CTS be cured completely without using surgery?

hi there, im assuming you mean carpal tunnel syndrome not cubital? if so, yes it can heal itself, my husband had it too from playing the guitar too much, took about a month.........
you should wear wrist braces to bed or when you aren't doing anything to keep your wrists straight......
also, you should look into taking magnesium it is good for nerves, i suggest chelated magnesium by solgar it's easy on your stomach
also take b complex, which also helps nerves....
i would say you can work out, but dont overdo it and afterwards put your wrist braces on.......
the reason carpal tunnel comes on is due to repetitive movement over and over and over on the nerves......
you can also soak your wrists, hands in hot/warm water with epsom salts in it (epsom salt has magnesium in it).
i hope you feel better (

How long does it take to recover from carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery?
I just had surgery for carpal and cubital tunnel at the same time, on my left arm, almost three weeks ago. I am still in a lot of pain. I have limited range of motion in my arm. It hurts to bend my fingers and my hand is very weak. The top knuckles of my pinky and ring finger will not bend without assistance from my other hand. My fingers are swollen an I have bruises that are finally fading, all over my hand and wrist. The worst pain seems to be sensitive skin and burning along the side of my arm, from my wrist almost to my elbow. There is of course, significant pain along th.e incisions in my hand, wrist, and elbow. There is a small portion of my arm that doesn't hurt. Is this much pain after almost three weeks normal? When can I expect it to stop?

What are the best treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome?
I have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist. The doctor told me that its not severe enough for surgery, but it still bothers me a lot. Are there any at home treatments or remedies to help with the discomfort?
----------
There are as usual no useful 'home remedies'. You give little detail I am afraid Stephanie, so I can only be very general. I assume that you are not currently pregnant, (one cause of carpal tunnel.) Others include hypothyroidism, which must be excluded by blood testing, weight gain and fluid retention.
Other than exercise and physio surgery is generally the only other option though all the possible causes need to be excluded first. (

I have tarsal tunnel syndrome I need to find a supportive shoe?
I have tarsal tunnel syndrome and it has effected my life for the past 5-6 months. And I have had to wear a big boot to help support my ankle.... I would like to wear something a little smaller but still have the support for my ankle. I am sick of being called big foot. I would like to still support the ankle because there is the fear that if I do not it will get bad again.
----------
I am having the exact same problem and just got out of the big boot myself although I am going to have to have surgery to fix it. My podiatrist recommended two different types of shoes. He said either get New Balance directly from a New Balance dealer (not just a shoe store but the actual New Balance store) or Asics. I had been wearing the New Balance before I was put into the boot so I decided to get Asics. I bought them from shoe carnival on sale for $89.00. THese shoes are aw some. They have a lot of gel in the them and a lot of support. I also wear a product called air-heal. This can be ordered on line. It gives you a lot of Ankle support but it also elevates the heel which takes the pressure off the nerve that is causing tarsal tunnel syndrome. You can buy these new off ebay or directly from the store. It slips on your foot and then your foot fits comfortably into your tennis shoe. The Type of Asics I wear is the Gel Nimbus 10. Its pretty ugly but its comfortable. In my sources there are link to wear you could purchase the products I have mentioned. If the air heel link does not work just type air heel by aircast into yahoo or ebay and you will find it. It looks like a black sock. Hope this helps. (
