Is it normal to have diarrhea after an appendectomy?

I went into the hospital thursday morning adn by lunchtime they told me they would remove my appendix before it burst in my stomach. I came home friday afternoon. I've actually been moving around a good bit, but just today I started getting diarrhea on occassion.

I didn't have diarrhea after my appendix was removed but we're all different. If you're on post op meds, that may be the cause. If it continues for another day, call the surgeon or take Imodium AD. It's in pill form & sold over the counter. It works great. Remember to drink a lot of "clear" liquids until the diarrhea is under control. (ex: water, tea, ginger ale or 7 Up, chicken broth, jello water. (that's unrefrigerated jello after it's been made)  (+ info)

Is it possible to have diarrhea from eating to little?

I've been having diarrhea a lot in the morning lately and I can't seem to figure it out why only the morning because after a few hours I feel better. But during the morning I have school and I can't keep on using the restroom. It's to embarassing.

It could be a nervous stomach. Maybe eat a better breakfast. Take some Pepto Bismol before you leave for school or an Imodium to stop the diarrhea. Hope it works  (+ info)

is it normal to have diarrhea when you start antibiotics?

I just started taking an antibiotic, clarithromycin, for bronchitis. I started yesterday and I have been experiencing diarrhea. Is this normal, how long will it last, or should I switch medications?

antibiotics go thru the entire body, including the intestines. While they do treat the infection, they also wipe out the normal bacteria in our intestines that we need to digest food. You can mitigate this side effect by taking a probiotic which you can get at any supplement store, like GNC, or by eating yogurt three times a day.  (+ info)

Is it normal to have diarrhea three to four times everyday?

Someone in my family has constant diarrhea and it's painful. He uses the bathroom at least 3 - 4 times a day and sometimes even late at night when he should be sleeping. I know that having bowel movements daily is normal, but this is way beyond normal. I've mentioned to him to visit our family doctor, but he doesn't want to and doesn't think too much of it. I'm not sure if it has to do with his eating habits or if he really has some kind of stomach bug / virus. Please help!

Having diarrhea for extended periods of time is nt only uncomfortable but dangerous!!! He is most likely dehydrated and even malnourished. This could even be a symptom of bowel cancer so you should scare into having a doctor check it out!!!  (+ info)

How do you get watery diarrhea under control without over the counter medication?

I felt sick to my stomach Friday afternoon. I thought I hadn't gotten enough sleep and had gotten to hot. Well my stomach got really bloated and the next day I had diarrhea everytime I turned around. I am having bad abdominal cramping around my belly button. I have IBS and it hurts me to take stuff like imodium so i am looking for some other alternatives without having to go to the doctor. There is a stomach bug going around so i don't htink this is something serious. I just want to feel better.

you can take some rice, boil it, and just before the water gets absorbed by the rice put it in a cup and drink it. also bananas and toast will help dry you up. go cautiously because the rice water will realy plug you up then you will have the opposite problem--can't go.  (+ info)

Is it possible to lose muscle when you have diarrhea?

I've had diarrhea for three days now and I've felt extremely weak. I feel as though my body lost alot of muscle. Actually, I do look like as if my body mass had shrunk. I've been lifting weights for months but I haven't been able to lift for about 4 days. I rarely have ate anything and I usually eat plenty. I've lost weight. Is it really possible that I lost all that muscle because of diarrhea?

Absolutely not. You've not lost much of anything (muscle-wise) in a few days. You most likely are chronically dehydrated. Keep your fluids (and salts and sugars up) and you'll feel better in no time. Diarrhoea tends to leech you of nutrients but your muscles won't have atrophied just yet.

I would consult a doctor about your sudden change in bowel movements and weakness. This may be signs of something else and just symptoms.

Good luck!  (+ info)

Very pregnant and my toddler has diarrhea and vomiting. How can I avoid getting sick, too?

I am 40 weeks pregnant and my 3 year old has had vomiting and watery diarrhea for over a day. I am scared that I will be sick when I give birth. What can I do to prevent getting sick? Would charcoal work? Garlic? Frequent hand washing is important, I know, but is there anything else I can do?

Wear plastic gloves when you diaper him or clean up vomit, wash your hands and his frequently, use hand sanitizing gel, wash his bedding in hot water, avoid touching your mouth after you've touched him. That's all you can really do.  (+ info)

How long does it take for diarrhea to form?

I ate at 2 restaurants...1 for a late breakfast and 1 for a late lunch. I had diarrhea later (3-4 hours after lunch) and I want to make sure I don't eat the leftover food that caused it.

Don't eat from the leftovers from either place, just to be sure..  (+ info)
