Dyspareunia?
For some time now i have been suffering from dyspareunia (pain during and/or after sex).I have seen my doctor about this who ran some tests, she didn't specify what these were but i am guessing they were to test for infections. The results did not show anything. She also gave me an examination and she said she did not notice anything abnormal. I am booked in for a scan next week, i have no idea what kind of scan this is. Does anyone have an idea?
Also my doctor had previously asked me about my periods but seeing as though i am on the contraceptive injection (Depo) i do not normally have any but two weeks ago i did,i think it was a period anyway, it wasn't small enough to call spotting but i didn't have any period pains at all.Should i mention this when i go back next week?Should i also mention that my periods were really abnormal before i went on the injection? (my periods were anywhere between 2 and 6 months between). Just incase it would help anyone to answer my questions, i am 18.
----------
Okay the scan will probably be a trans-vaginal scan which I think is self explanatory. Sometimes with contraceptives your vagina can suffer from dryness so try using a lubricant such as KY gel this might help alleviate any pain. As far as your history goes it is always wise to tell doctors anything to do with the complaint as you never know what you may think is trivial, could actually be an important factor. It may also be a good time for you to consider another more permanent form of contraception as you are only 18 and I take it will not be wanting to start a family in the near future. Ask Doctor for a leaflet on Implanon. Hopefully this information will help. (

Can someone recommend a doctor that specializes in dyspareunia??I need help!?
I have been suffering from Dyspareunia for about 3 years now...I was recently married and i feel terrible that my husband and i cant have a normal sexual relationship, everytime i bring it up to my gyn she just says try and relax, have a glass of wine but i feel like something is really wrong..Does anyone know of an expert in the NY Metro/Long Island area that can help me??
----------
WHAT!! Have a glass of wine? yeah, I would be thinking of getting a second opinion. I'm so sorry to hear what you are experiencing. You may have an underlying condition or may have been misdiagnosed - go to you web search and type in dyspareunia-wrongdiagnosis.com - there are other indications as to what may be wrong. Call you gynecologist and ask her what kind of specialist would she recommend and ask her for a name in your area. If your gynecologist is not willing to suggest a specialist, then I would get another MD. A doctor should welcome another opinion if they are any good. She should be helping you find a specialist. 3 years is too long. (

Treatment depends on what type of dyspareunia she is experiencing, deep seated or superficial... Does she experience vaginal dryness?
Endometriosis can not be identified on an ultrasound or blood tests, the only way to accurately diagnose this is via a Laparoscopy. Endometriosis could definatley be causing her pain, this is usually treated by hormone injections every 3 months, or a Laparoscopy with Cautery to endometriosis. (Day Surgery) Depends on the severity of endometriosis.
Tell her to pick up some "KY Warming Gel" Make sure she gets the warming stuff, and use it during intercourse, we recommend that to a lot of our patients, and it helps tremendously.
Any good gynaecologist would be able to help her with these issues, (Have your GP refer if necessary)
You can find gyne's via the CPSO doctor search...

why is my boyfriend having Dyspareunia?
I don't know, usually it is the women.

What part is the problem? (

women...does anyone here suffer from dyspareunia?
If so how did/do you cope?
----------
I don't, but I had uterine fibroid that caused pain and bleeding. I had a D and C and uterine ablation for that. Try this link and see if it helps. (

Options to treat endometriosis?
I've bn having deep dyspareunia for few months and my gyn has advised me to have laparoscopic. But is there any other option to treat endometriosis since im afraid of surgery and it costs a lot? would the pills or Mirena make a difference?
----------
A diagnosis of Endometriosis can only be confirmed through surgery. If the disease is suspected based on symptoms, there are medical suppressive measures that can be tried, i.e., the coil you mention, continuous oral contraceptives, depo Provera, etc. Some doctors even put their undiagnosed patients on GnRH therapy like Lupron without a surgical diagnosis, but this is ill-advised. Diet, nutrition, and other alternative therapies can be tried with moderate success as well, but the gold standard of diagnosis and effective treatment is laparoscopic surgery where it can be confirmed and removed. Check out http://www.endocenter.org/pdf/2007ScreeningEducationKit.pdf for detailed information about diagnosis, treatment, coping options and more from the ERC, a free foundation for support, research facilitation and education. Good luck to you. (

I'm under a curse. Sex is very painful for me. Every thrust hurts even though properly lubricated. What gives?
Every position hurts. Doctor said I dont have dyspareunia. If I dont have it, how come it hurts? I have pelvic-organ prolapse and stress incontinence. Could those be the reasons? My sex life is non-existent for 10 years now because of it. Please help!
----------
There are many causes of painful sex including vaginal or urinary infection, lack of lubrication, tumors, irritants (like spermicide), sexual disease, physical abnormalities, previous surgery, sexual trauma, repair of episiotomy or tear, vaginismus, vulvar vestibulitis, endometriosis, tipped uterus, and skin thickenings that can divide the female opening or injury to the vulva or vagina, such as childbirth, rape or sexual abuse. Chronic pain during sex may be caused by adhesions following episiotomy or plastic repair of the vagina. Endometriosis, vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease and radiation therapy sometimes result in chronic painful intercourse due to adhesion formation at the round or broad ligaments, uterus or other structures. Please see your doctor for an exam and testing to determine what the cause may be. You can read more about it here
