What are some good, simple Middle Eastern foods to make for a class?

I need some good and easy to make Middle Eastern foods to cook for my World Cultures class. Thanks!

Hi. I eat lots of Middle Eastern food because it's cheap and vegetarian. You'll have to research further to find some recipes.

Mujaddarah is like a rice, lentil and onion pilaf. Good, cheap but a bit time consuming. Can be served room temperature. You'll have to slowly cook the onion and prepare rice and lentils and combine these. Nice with a dollop of plain yogurt.

Ful Mudamas is a Fava Bean dish mixed with lemon, garlic, olive oil, sometimes some spice and eaten with pita bread. You can get some cans of Fava Bean or premade ful (or fool, foul...tons of spellings for the same thign) Just get these cans, heat, mix up with extras (onion, tomato, garlic, lemon juice olive oil) and serve with pita. Cheap and not time consumming, if you have a middle eastern or Lebanese shop around. Best served warm

Hummus - inexpensive and easy. Couple cans of garbanzo beans, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and tahini (sesame seed paste). Serve with pita. You can also make a salad called tabouli to go along with it (parsley, wheat, tomato, onion)...you'll have to look up these recipes. These can be served room temperature, and really the tahini might cost a bit of money...but it will store for a long time and you can make lots of hummus with it.

Fattoush Salad -- peppers, onions, tomatos, cucumbers, romaine lettuce and old fried up pita bread (like croutons) served in a garlickly lemony dressing with a seasoning called sumac. The sumac makes it taste really good and tart. You can find it at a middle eastern shop, bulk natural foods shop or spice store. Serve room temp.

lentil chard soup is delicious, cheap and easy...but bringing soup to class may prove a bit hard.

Sorry, you'll have to look up these recipes on the internet. It shouldn't be hard, and they are all delicious. Have fun!  (+ info)

What's the name of this Middle Eastern dish?

I make this all the time for myself, and this is how it's done:

Boil fava beans
Boil millet
Put both in a pot
Add salt, pepper, white wine, tahini sauce, and olive oil

Done. It consists of middle eastern ingredients, and I could eat it every day. I am, in fact, eating it right now, there's a steaming bowl of it standing right here, next to me.

Does anyone know what this is called? I have no idea myself, just started making it one day.

not sure sorry.

I am thinking of particular Romanian, or Eastern European names for two girls, how about Rasputzia and Tamugna?

Please help! Do you have any ideas for some Eastern European names that I can give to two little girls? I would like something that is very particular and reminds of Eastern Europe! I have found Rasputzia and Tamugna as my favorites so far, do you have any others I can think of?

Letiţia or Ileana are Romanian.  (+ info)

What are some simple Middle Eastern foods?

I need to bring in a Middle Eastern food for a class project. Please list as many as you can think of, because I need to do one that no one else in my class is doing.

Hummus and pita comes to mind immediately, but I bet everyone will think of that. Stuffed grape leaves are available in a jar, so that would be easy. Or take in

Lawz Mhammas (Salted Almonds)

1 pound shelled almonds
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons salt

Grill the almonds for 2-3 minutes to loosen the skins, then rub the skins off. Heat the oil in a heavy skillet, then add the nuts and stir until golden. Stir in the salt on very low heat until the nuts are well-coated with the salt. Put on paper towels to dry a bit; cool and store in an airtight container.  (+ info)

Where can I find authentic Middle Eastern recipes online?

During a trip to Egypt, I had a brown bean soup that had hints of cumin and maybe lime or lemon and I am trying to find a recipe or just the name of the soup. I also ate at many hotels that served a buffet-style breakfast so any middle eastern recipes would also be great. Any help would be much appreciated.

Shourabit' Ads
(Red Lentil Soup with Lamb)

Combine, bring to boil, cover and simmer 1 hour:

2 cups ads majroosh (red lentils)
1 pound or more lamb shanks
6 cups water
1-1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
Sauté until soft in:
3 T. olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
4 cups chopped Swiss chard
Cook and stir until chard is wilted. Add to soup and simmer 15 minutes. Then add:
1/4 cup lemon juice
Adjust seasonings and serve with lamb shank on side, or cut up in the soup. The red lentils turn a golden color, making the soup attractive with the green of the chard. Thick and creamy. May be made ahead of time.
Serves 6.

Where can I find a specialty bra or lingerie shop that carries 44DDD or 44F bras in the eastern US?

I have always had a hard time finding bras. I am going on a little rode trip this coming week and if anyone knows of a specialty lingerie shop somewhere in the eastern US I'd love to hear about it.

I'm 19 with the same endowment and honestly I think they are a blessing. Girls are envious of me, guys are envious of my bf. we can wear those low cut clevage shirts that the flat chested girls can't. Some men say that more than a hand-full is a waste, but as a chica I think that as long as you are happy with them that is all that matters. I will have to tell you though, 36 DD is sometimes a very hard size to find for a bra, and you will pay between 10-15 dollars more for that size. Also, they do make similar shirts for us, unfortunately they're in the "Big Girls" section, even though its just our "girls" that are big and not necessarily us.

Spicylegs.com is also one of the best store in sexy lingerie

Enjoy!!  (+ info)

I'm going to a restaurant tonight with middle eastern cuisine?

I'm very excited, I've tried many different kinds of food but this is new. Someone told me that Middle Eastern cuisine is similar to Greek. Is this true? What should I expect?

Lucky... That food is the best.

One dish that could be Greekish is the ground beef & spices wrapped in grape leaves(tastes like spinach).

Al-Motubug - Stuffed Pastry Squares
Patlican - Fried Eggplant with a Yogurt Sauce
