Does penicillin induced pseudomembranous colitis go away by itself ?
I am a week past finishing my 12 days course of penicillin and I have major symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis. I read that penicillin can induce this during and after therapy. I'm wondering if it will subside my itself or if I need to do anything. I dont really want to go back to my GP and she is a dunderhead and only gave me penicillin because she didnt know what else to give.
----------
I doubt you have pseudo membranous colitis, more likely is the penicillin simply wiped out your internal digestive bacteria, so you have similar symptoms. Try eating yogurt or taking probiotics to replace the bacteria the penicillin wiped out. (

What type of diet is Neutropenic Enterocolitis?
Neutropenic Entercolitis is not a diet:
-Neutropenic enterocolitis is an acute life-threatening condition characterized by transmural inflammation of the small and large bowel in patients who are severely myelosuppressed and immunosuppressed. The clinical presentation can be quite dramatic, and the outcome may be devastating. Mortality rates are high, and treatment is controversial, with options varying from conservative medical management to surgical intervention. Early recognition of the condition is paramount to a potentially good outcome. (

Question about the use of Cleocin to treat BV causing pseudomembranous colitis...?
My doctors gave my cleocin to get rid of my bv. I was reading in the pamphlet that it can cause pseudomembranous colitis. I wasnt sure if anyone knew how common this happens among people who have taken this antibiotic for BV since it says about 30% is absorbed systemically. Any ideas?
----------
I'm pretty sure about 70% of all antibiotics carry this warning. It freaked me out when I first read it, too. Turns out in nearly never happens. Don't worry about it, truly. Just take the meds the way they're prescribed. And always take all of them. Even if you get feeling better, finish the prescription. Not doing so can cause you to be allergic next time you take them. Do full term babies get necrotizing enterocolitis?
he incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) varies from isolated cases to nursery epidemics. The population group most often affected is ill, preterm neonates.5
The incidence rates of necrotizing enterocolitis are similar in all developed countries in which high-quality health care is available for premature infants.
The incidence in premature neonates is highest in those with very low birth weights.6 NEC is less commonly seen in premature neonates with higher birth weights and in _Full-term neonates.
Currently, the mortality rate of patients with necrotizing enterocolitis is less than 20% when infants are treated early in the course of the illness. Without treatment, the mortality rate is extremely high.
Morbidity associated with NEC includes bowel stricture, peritoneal adhesions, and bowel perforation. If perforation occurs, the necrotic bowel is surgically resected. Resection of large lengths of bowel may result in short-bowel syndrome.
Necrotizing enterocolitis exhibits no sexual predilection. (

i have recently been diagnosed with pseudomembranous collitis after high doses of antibiotics?
which because of their strength have destroyed the lining of both my intestines Everything i eat seems to upset me and am wondering if anyone has experienced this horrendous illness and can advise me on diet Any dairy or yeast or fungus are a no no and i am forbidden heavy roughage Thank you
----------
Yet I have had this, I had H. Pyloric Bacteria, and was on two weeks antibiotics. It scared me, it looks like cotton in the toilet. I called the doctor and he said I had lost the lining of the intestines. He put me on Yogurt, juice from sour crout, to restore the helpfull bacteria. And I also went on a clear liquid diet for two weeks. Remember to tell your doctor about this the next time you need antibiotics, he will use something not as strong. You need to google, clear liquid diet and follow it, and if this condition persists, see your doctor again. (

What is enterocolitis?
what is epizootic rabbit enterocolitis
----------
Enterocolitis is an inflammation of the small and large intestines. Enteritis is inflammation of the small intestine, Colitis is inflammation of the large intestine, and enterocolitis is inflammation of both (note the words are basically just combined). As far as the "epizootic rabbit" part, that simply means that a large number of rabbits within a region have been affected by a disease, in this case, enterocolitis.
As far as treatments go, you need to determine the cause of the inflammation, which is almost always an infection. If it is viral in nature, the best treatment is supportive therapy - basically doing what you can to ensure the rabbit or rabbits stay well hydrated until the infection is under control. If the infection is bacterial, antibiotics could prove useful. (

----------
My friend has just been diagnosed with Ulceric Colitis and it took doctors a year to diagnose it (he ended up in hospital).
I'll ask if he was given any information about support groups, but in the meantime, here's some online support groups:

Pseudomembranous Colitis?
Has anyone ever been diagnosed with this? When should I go to the Dr.? I have had these symptoms for about a week. Feel like crap. Any chance of this just passing. I am a Medical field worker, bad patient!
Started taking clindamyacin-h about 2 weeks ago for abcessed tooth. Started with symptoms about a week ago. Have since quit taking. I thought it may clear up, but it seems to be getting worse.
----------
Pseudomembranous colitis is usually caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile, and it usually occurs after the use of broad spectrum antibiotics (especially clindamycin). The antibiotics wipe out most of the endogenous flora in your large intestine, and C. difficile kind of takes over without the competition for resources. This causes inflammation and bleeding in the colon, which can be extremely uncomfortable.
If you're showing signs of pseudomembranous colitis and are at high risk, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. He or she will either do a test for the C. difficile toxin or a colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, and then he or she will prescribe an antibiotic such as Metronidazole to get rid of the bacteria.
Hope this information is helpful, and I hope you feel better soon! (
