What causes a foot to feel like you are walking on pebbles in your shoe?

This feeling is in the area from the ball of the foot to the toes, and across the entire foot side to side. Is there any way to cure this? Suggestions?

It could be Mortons Neuroma or Metatarsalgia. There are nerves running through your foot that can get inflammation from a variety of things. The main one being shoes with little or no arch support.
You could try a shoe with a better arch support and see if that helps. Or try a drugstore for finding some metatarsal pads to insert in your shoe. In the meantime, don't wear high heels if you are a women or shoes with a narrow toe.
Try icing the area 15 minutes a day, several times a day. If you can, take Advil or Motrin to help with the pain as well as decrease inflammation in the area. If all else fails, schedule an appointment with your doctor. If this has been going on for a long time or you don't feel relief in the next few days, make an appointment. Since nerves are involved, it would be best to seek medical advice if it continues past a few days or is so painful you can't walk.  (+ info)

How do those foot detox pads work? And do they actually detoxify your body of harmful stuff?

What is that black junk that appears on the foot pads after wearing them overnight? Is that just dirt from the bottom of your feet or is it some chemical reaction that appears on the surface of the pad so it appears as if it came from your body?

Its junk. The reason they turn black is becuase a mixture of vingar and salts are inside of them and it reacts to the oils in your body.

They are a waste of money, look them up on MSN webpage, they did a study of them.  (+ info)

What is the purpose of having my toes flexed during a foot massage>?

I get my feet massaged on a regular basis, and I always enjoy my feet being massaged, (foot massages are wonderful) and it feels great on my feet. One massage therapist, who massages my feet, also flexed my toes back and forth. What she does is presses them back hard, but firm, (It doesn't hurt) and as she holds them back this stretches my leg muscles, and she asks me to press on her hand, and both leg muscles stretch out which feels very good on my leg muscles, then she would curl them and ask me to do the same, and this stretches my muscles out again. What is the purpose of this? I enjoy doing this, and it does feel good on my lower leg muscles, it is like almost like stretching out before you go for a run, but what is the main purpose, would this make my toes stronger?

It sounds to me like she is stretching muscles called the extrinsic foot muscles. These are muscles that control the movement of the toes but the muscle belly (the main part) actually attaches to one of two bones in your leg. Because they end on the toes, you're getting more of a stretch when she focuses on the toes specifically. These motions can be used to strengthen the muscle if she is asking you to apply resistance to the motions.  (+ info)

What causes foot pain in the heal when bending down or pulling the toes back?

I have a pain in the back of my heal when I stetch out my Achilles tendon, however the pain is not the achilles. It generates from the right side of my left foot approximately halfwayy between the ankle bone and the bottom of the foot slighty off centered from the achilles. It usually hurts when I bend my foot. The pain is a sharp sting that feels like something is tearing. The pain doesn't last long when it occurs. It feels like whatever is generating the pain is not deep inside the foot.

It does sound like it could be the achilles tendon to me. It can be shortened up, something that they do when pain is present, and they don't always release all the way. That means you should have use of the foot but when you do something that requires some of the length of the tendon to help out with, it's not there so it end up pulling on the end of least resistance, your heel. That is the most common problem to cause heel pain anyway. Here is how to release the achilles tendon so it goes back to it's full length:
Achilles tendon:
While sitting and your leg on your lap, take both thumbs and place them side by side at about ankle height on the tendon on the back of your leg and apply pressure hard and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
Before doing this take a deep breath and exhale, then try to keep your body this relaxed for best results.  (+ info)

Why does only one foot swell? Is it normal to be swelling at 25 weeks pregnant?

Only my left foot swells. My right foot might get a tad swollen but if so, it's certainly nothing compared to the balloon on my left foot/ ankle. I am only 25 weeks now. Is it a bad sign that its already swelling? I don't have any leg pain or red spots. Only swelling. I am trying to stay away from high sodium foods and drinking lots of water. Also am elevating my foot above my waist when sitting. It goes down eventually but comes back in the same foot.

it could be ur pertaining water or ur blood pressure is high(toxcima).i got swollen feet just like u when i was pergo but and it was the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy. you should go see your dr and get ur blood pressure checked.do stay away from foods n sodas with alot of salt in it..  (+ info)

What is causing these horrible foot cramps?

I'm 18 years old and in good overall health, but every few weeks I get awful cramps between the second and third toes of my left foot. Sometimes they're so bad that I can barely walk, and my third toe starts to go a little bit numb. I've tried wearing flats more often instead of heels, but it seems to have no bearing on when I'll get these cramps. The only thing that helps even a little is to soak my foot in hot water and try to massage the muscle. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Try and wear/or buy supportive/or custom shoes w/ support uncomfortable shoes with no support could be the answer  (+ info)
