Can your metabolism go to fast?

I was just wondering if anyone's heard of any disorders where your metabolism goes so fast your body doesn't have time to soak up the necessary nutrients.
----------

Hyperthyroidism is a condition when your thyroid (a gland that is part of your endocrine system) is overactive. It puts out too much of the hormone that regulates your metabolism, so your metabolism gets too high and starts to cause problems. It's not that you don't have time to soak up necessary nutrients with this disease, it's that your body used energy so fast that you burn calories like crazy. That may sound nice, but there are lots of other problems that happen with it, like anxiety, rapid heart rate, sleeplessness, altered responses to medications, and "bug eyes". Any general search of a medical-based website can give you more info. If you are having problems soaking up nutirents, you probably have something wrong with your digestive system. Hope this is helpfull!  (+ info)

Does water start up ur metabolism?

like ppl say eat a low glucose fruit every 2 ours to keep ur metabolism going, can i drink a litre of water every hour to keep it going. or is water too 'light' to start ur matabolism?
----------

The water is one requirement only. Your body cannot digest food or break down the supplements you take without plenty of water.

When my twin brother lost from 404 pounds to 217, he drank a gallon of water every day, and also supplemented with seaweed. He did a before/after ad with Sea-Vegg after losing all that weight in 4 years.  (+ info)

when you start trying to up your calories, take it slow.
if you eat 300 each day, eat 400, then 300, 400, 500, 400, 500, 600, 500, 600, 700, 600, 700, 800, etc until you get to at least 1,200. this should reduce weight gain be slowly speeding up your slow metabolism  (+ info)

If someones metabolism stops or slows down how long do they have to eat normally for it to be normal again?

It's a question for physical science but it isn't in the text book.

Here's the questions:
If Abby develops an eating disorder and under eats until her metabolism slows or stops how long would she have to eat 1200 calories a day to regain her body's normal metabolism's speed.

Help?

Metabolism, other people able to be healthy in sedentary lifestyle isn't an excuse for you. Non?

There are obviously exceptions, disorders per say.
Slower metabolisms are better for survival, but just because your body isn't suited to sedentary life doesn't mean its not your fault. Placing fault is pointless. You don't live healthy enough, your not healthy (excluding actual conditions of course).

Does being anorexic for a few months damage your metabolism for life?

I read of a girl who had an eating disorder in middle school.
Now, in high school, her metabolism is so slow, she always gains weight.
Does being anorexic for a while really effect your metabolism for the rest of your life?
----------

Being anorexic simply is not any beneficial for anybody at any time for any length! It interrupts and damages the healthy metabolism of any body! Actually to become and stay thin all the girl should need to know is that when the metabolism works... eating healthy calories... burning calories through exercise.... the body is at it's maximum health and feels best. Generally if someone wants to quit on something he/she should be a bit more selective and quit not on all food, however, on certain food such as sodas, alcohol & juices, sauces & dressings, fast & processed food. Instead he/she should drink tap water & mineral water, eat fruit, veggies, grilled or baked fish, meat, veggies, snack on jogurts, nuts etc..... And as well take up exercise on a regular basis... Especially any cardio sports such as running, cycling etc.... have the metabolisms burning calories...  (+ info)

How do you speed up your metabolism?

I used to have an eating disorder and now im trying to fix my metabolism cus its all out of whack! How do you do that?
----------

I used to have an eating disorder too, still kinda do, so I sympathise with the metabolism problem. When you start eating better over a period of time, eventually it'll speed up again. & things that help metabolism are things like honey [fat free too], grapefruit, green tea, and HEALTHY amounts of exercise. Try not to worry to much about it, it'll restore itself.  (+ info)

How long does it take for metabolism to normalize after an eating disorder?

I am beginning recovery for my bulimia. I'm a nonpurging bulimic meaning that I binge and then overexercise and fast to compensate for all the calories (stupid idea!). I lost 20 lbs doing this and became quite underweight but I have managed to gain weight back and am 5"6 and 125 lbs.

I'm really uncomfortable at this weight and would like to lose about 5-7 lbs, the healthy way and I know it won't as fast as it did with my other crazy regime. I am eating about 6 times day, no more binge eating on high cal foods, and I am not depriving myself. I also have limited myself to an hour and 15 mins of exercise a day, 7 days a week, which may still seem a little much. How long do you think it would take me to lose 5-7 lbs doing it this way? I do not want to weigh less than 118, I have a lot of muscle and once I get down to around 120, I begin to look too skinny.

Thanks!
