How to make lice appear in color on lighter hair colors?
This morning, my school nurse was telling us there is something you can put in light color hair to make the lice turn a certain color so you can see them more and the color can be washed out. I can't find any info on the internet. Anyone have any ideas what she is talking about. She can't remember but said she would call me if she remembered.
There is a product called Neon Nits. You can get it at most pharmacies. You might want to call around to find out which ones have it. Nothing more embarrassing than having to go to two or three stores to explain your problem. (+ info
Is it possible to have scabies and body lice at the same time?
I have lesions on my ears, face, around my lips, eyelids, eyebrows, and in my hair. Generally scabies rarely goes above the neck. From what I have read, pubic lice and body lice are part of my malady. I am seeking some advice. At night, hell breaks loose on my body despite using Permetrin (Acticin 5% cream) which is specific for scabies Does the Permetrin also kill pubic and body lice?
Yes, it is possible to have both. Permetrin should get rid of lice & scabies, however...you may still have a problem with itching for up to three weeks after you are NO longer infested. Make sure your clothes and bedding are clean so that you do not reinfest yourself. Make sure the person you were having close contact with has also been treated. I would wonder where that person contacted their pubic/body lice. There are several anti-itch creams you can buy OTC. Using them might help you at night especially when you are trying to sleep. I would say one of two things is happening....you are possibly no longer infected, but are still itching (may go on for 2-3 weeks), or you are reinfesting cause you are not using clean bedding every night/clean clothes every day...or your partner is still infected. What are the symptoms of scabies or body lice?
I'm having a debate with someone at work, he has little tiny bumps on his legs and feet and they look like ant bites without the little puss bumps. How do you get scabies or body lice?
Scabies are caused by little insects that burrow under you're skin, and lay eggs. The symptoms are red itchy bumps on you're skin that are usually have puss coming out of them. You get lice from wild animals like squirrels, and birds, and the symptoms are, itchy scalp and you will notice little bugs in you're hair. (+ info

It takes 1-2 weeks for the eggs, called nits, to hatch and another 1-2 weeks to mature into an adult. The Kids Health website has a good parent's site with information on lice. It can be found at:

How can you tell the difference between dandruff and lice?
It looks like my brother has it but we can't tell because it is spread throught his hair. Doesn't lice usualy stick to the scalp?
Also, if you straiten hair would the heat get rid of the lice?
Also, if you straiten hair would the heat get rid of the lice? It's about 230 degrees.
Dandruff is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp while Head lice are small wingless insects (bugs) that can get on your hair and scalp. Lice are parasites that feed on very small amounts of your blood. Lice bites may cause constant scratching, and lead to skin irritation or even infection.
Can head lice be prevented?
It may be difficult to prevent head lice from spreading among children, but the following are some steps you can take to help keep lice away:
* Ask your child not to share combs, brushes or hair decorations.
* Ask your child not to try on hats that belong to other children.
* If your child will be sleeping away from home, be sure to pack his or her own pillow and towels.
What are the signs of head lice?
Because lice move very fast, they are not always easy to see. Here's what you can watch for:
* Frequent scratching
* Small red bumps or sores on the scalp, neck and shoulders
* Lice eggs, also called nits, which look like tiny, oval shaped, white or clear dots. Nits usually stick at an angle on hair shafts.
How can I treat head lice?
Head lice can be treated with over-the-counter or prescription products. Shampoos and lotions that kill head lice contain pesticides and other chemicals, so it is important to talk to your doctor before using these products, especially if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have allergies or asthma. It is also not safe to use products with pesticides on or near your eyes. If you find head lice or nits in eyelashes or brows, talk to your doctor.
The products that kill head lice don't usually kill all nits. To reduce the risk of another lice infestation, pick the remaining lice and nits by hand or by using a special comb (one brand name: LiceMeister comb) to remove them. Comb through all of the hair one section at a time every 3 days or more often, for at least 2 weeks or until you stop seeing head lice and nits. (+ info

My daughter cought head lice I guess from some kids at school and we were wondering if there is anything we may have at home to get rid of them. We tried rubbing alcohol but it didnt work. we also heard karosine but she doesnt want to use that.

No i did not use karosine, it was a suggestion by my sister in law, i would never do that! I dont want to put a lot of chemicals on her head, and the lice shampoos are made of alot of chemicals that set off her asthma.

What is the best product to use in your kids' hair to prevent head lice?
My daughter starts kindergarten on Monday, and my hair stylist told me to put her hair up in a pony tail and spray it with hair spray, and that will deter lice.
I have also heard that tea tree oil shampoo or a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo will help prevent lice. If you put the tea tree oil in your shampoo, how much should you use, and should you put in in your conditioner too?
Any help or any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
One more question, where can you buy tree tea oil/ tea tree shampoo?
You can buy tea tree oil from most health food stores and some supermarkets even stock it.
I strongly suggest you give it a go, try the methods I suggested in previous posts. It really does help to prevent head lice.

There's a lice infestation at my school and I found some lice on my head! What color!?
There brown. Is it lice or could it be something more serious!?
If there are no eggs present in your hair there is no need to start a full scale assault. I would simply cover your hair in a thick conditioner, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it overnight. This will suffocate any live lice. If eggs are present get yourself some hair straighteners (flat iron) and zap them with that.
Please don't treat yourself with pesticides just in case
