it is my understanding that type IV hypersensitivities are characterized by a cell mediated inflammatory response involving T helper cells binding some antigen and releasing cytokines (for instance the antigens created due to poison ivy on the skin). I was told that "type 1 diabetes and MS elicit type IV hypersensitivities" my question is: What do these disorders have to do with the above description of type IV hypersensitivities?????

I would go with the M.S. because you can eat whatever you want, and people don't usually understand that it's not fatal, and its easily controlled as long as you carry a healthy life style (i.e. eating, sleeping, right and not stressing).

I suppose any disorder can be fatal if you don't take care of yourself, and yes diabetes can be fatal.

Can't really debate about the injections, because both conditions require injections.

Diabetes you can lose your vision, lose limbs if you don't take care of it. But M.S. you can get treatment for a relapse and your vision comes back.

The only way I'd personally rather have diabetes instead of M.S. relapse remitting is if I were a black male...such as Montel Williams. M.S. tends to be extremely aggressive in males particularly in black males.  (+ info)

vagial intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN type 1)?

I've been diagnosis with vagial intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN type 1) it came back twice. Has anyone had this, will it turn into cancer later.
Vaginal Intrapethelial Neoplasia I (VAIN) is the very first stage of vaginal dysplasia, it is very mild, so you caught it early which is great. I have VAIN too, (unsure what stage) but the doctor said I would be looking at surgery soon, so I am guessing a biopsy is coming soon too! OUCH. I also have VIN which is vulvar dysplasia.

Since this is the second time you have had VAIN pop up and you are under the care of a doctor I doubt very seriously that it could spread to invasive cancer unnoticed. I am assuming your doctor has you on a "watch & wait" plan, a check-up every 3-6 months, so chances are if it gets worse he will treat it. VAIN, which is caused from HPV is very slow growing and rarely goes invasive. I hope this calms your fears a little. Type 1 diabetic multiple medications?

OK, I am not looking for advice on how to eat, exercise etc, etc I see my diabetes educator 3 times a week , my Endocrinologist every 2 months plus my internal medicine doc. So I am well taken care of, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 12 years and 4 years ago I had a baby and was diagnosed with Graves disease soon after her birth. I have had the radioactive iodine treatment for my thyroid because my glucose levels were so high; I have changed my insulin for the old R & NPH to the Novolog and Lantus. My glucose levels are still high we have seen a small drop in the levels going from an average of 400-600 down to 200-400 usually in the high 300 to low 400 is where we are at now. I have had T-3 &T-4 blood tests and the thyroid hormone is pretty much gone we have not started the replacement hormone yet. Now this being said I had a talk with my internal medicine doctor a couple of days ago and he wants to put me on a medication that people with type 2 diabetes use. Is this normal, I have never heard of this and was wondering if anyone else had. If anyone knows someone who has done this or what the results might be.
Sure I will let you know what he says. As far as the pump I looked into it and just didn't like the idea of sleeping and well...... you know with this machine next to me.
Thanks guys and gals, I just thought I would ask, I am on the fast acting insulin the novolog starts working within 10 min or so and the lantus is just the 24 hr. But I thought I would ask and see if any of you had heard of this reversal of meds.
I suggest the insulin pump by medtronic along with exercise, check medtronic.com for more answers and better control of your diabetes.
Im very happy with my insulin pump control for my diabeties.

What type of Medicine are you taking for your Multiple Sclerosis?

My brother who is now 24 yrs old has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He went from jogging 2-3 times and week, playing basketball everyday to barely holding his self up. He can't walk more than 5 feet without leaning on someone or something. This kills me! He had minor symptoms of MS in the beginning but as soon as he started taking his medicine, it got a lot worst I believe.

I just wanted to ask what medicine do you MS patients have? My brother said Mitt Romney's wife has it and hers have went into remission after she started taking "eastern" medication. I don't know if that's true or not. If someone that has MS can tell me what type of medicine there doctor has them using and after what time period did they start seeing results? Please ONLY MS patients need reply

Whats the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2?

My boss just found out her 16 year old daughter has type 1 diabetes. We were all very sad to hear the news. Apparently she will be taking medication everyday for the rest of her life and she has a strict diet to follow. What's the difference between type 1 and type 2? Also, do people with diabetes have a tendency to be thin and lose a lot of weight because of their diet? Apparently before she was diagnosed, she lost 10 pounds within a month.

Type one is usually diagnosed early in life, from birth to around the age of 30. There are many theories on why and what happens to the pancreas in type 1. It is thought to be a viruse that attacks it at some point. There are more cases of type 1 in states that have cold weather. These people are always insulin dependent and must inject insulin sometimes up to 6 times a day. The pancreas does not make any (or very little) insulin. In type 2, it is usually diagnosed after the age of 35, but can develop earlier. With this type there are 2 things that can happen. The pancreas can be making lots of insulin but the body is not using it correctly (this is insulin resistance) or the pancreas is not making enough insulin. People with type 2 usually have to take some type or oral meds, but some take insulin, and some take both. There are some type 2's that can control their disease with diet and exercise for many years. Both types of diabetes can be genetic. Both types are caused by malfunctions of the pancreas and are not caused by the wrong diet, or being overweight. Both types of diabetics need to get daily exercise and watch their diets.  (+ info)

i'm going to try and answer these as well as i can.
diabetes 1: pancreatic beta cell death due to autoimmune disease. the cells are responsible for producing insulin.

diabetes 2: insulin resistance and the cells do not respond to insulin and therefore sugar can't be taken up and utilised by the cells.

not sure about the goiter and gigantism... sorry  (+ info)
