Difference between pancreatic neoplasm and cystic neoplasm?

Anyone who knows, I would greatly appreciate it.
I would like for those who are in the medical profession to answer this question, or someone with real knowledge. I'm not looking for insensitive answers, simply the facts.
I must add that this is specific to a low density mass in the pancreas, very small in size. No diagnostic tests have been done other than a CT that detected it.
----------

pancreatic neoplasm occurs in the pancreas
cystic neoplasm can occur anywhere in the body.  (+ info)

What is the connection between malignant neoplasms and crabs?

The more common term for malignant neoplasms, cancer, is Latin for crab, and the word "carcinogen," meaning a cancer-causing agent, comes from the Greek word for crab, "karkinos." What is the connection between these two seemingly unrelated things?
----------

Cancer, both the disease and the astronomical constellation, derive from the Latin cancer or cancrum, meaning crab. The astrological sign, of course, is said to resemble a crab and the disease was so named by the ancient Greek physician Galen (129-200 A.D.) who noted the similarity between a certain type of tumor with a crab as well—the swollen veins around the tumor resembling the legs of a crab.

Old English adopted cancer directly from Latin and used it for a variety of spreading sores and ulcers. This early sense survives in the modern word canker. From c.1000 in a manuscript called Læce Boc (Leech Book), collected in Oswald Cockayne’s Leechdoms, Wortcunning, and Starcraft of Early England, Vol. II, 1865:

Gemeng wið þam dustum, clæm on ðone cancer.
(Mix with the dust, smear on the cancer.)

And from Wyclif’s 2 Timothy, 1382:

The word of hem crepith as a kankir

The word was being applied specifically to the disease we today call cancer by the beginning of the 17th century. From Philemon Holland’s translation of Pliny’s Historie of the World:

Cancer is a swelling or sore comming of melancholy bloud, about which the veins appeare of a blacke or swert colour, spread in manner of a Creifish clees.

The astronomical sense of cancer is from the Latin name for the constellation of the crab. The name was known to the Anglo-Saxons, but only as a Latin name and was not assimilated into English until the Middle English period. It appears in Ælfric’s De Temporibus Anni, written c.993, in a list of the constellations of the Zodiac:

Feorða • Cancer • þæt is Crabba
(Fourth, Cancer, that is the crab.)

The Anglicized name appears c.1391 in Chaucer’s Treatise on the Astrolabe:

In this heved of cancer is the grettist declinacioun northward of the sonne...this signe of cancre is clepid the tropik of Somer.
(At this first point (head) of cancer is the greatest declination northward of the sun…this sign of cancer is named the tropic of summer.)

Will I need chemo for a low grade serous carcinoma?

Diagnosis two weeks ago:
Section A-Ovarian low grade serous carcinoma with a serous neoplasm of low malignant potential with cribriform patter.
Section B-Ovarian serous neoplasm of low malignant potential with focal microinvation and autoimplant.

There were four other non-invasive implants on one lymph node. Will I need chemo?
----------

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like they would give you chemo for this. If I am understanding the diagnosis correctly...It's ovarian cancer with 4 non-invasive cancer cells on one lymph node? If this is the case (and trust me I am no expert in Ovarian cancer, I can only compare it to my experience plus the experience of other cancer patients I have met along the way...take what I say with a grain of salt)...

It sounds like the cancer has spread from the main area into the lymphatic system even if it's just beginning that process...this means that there would be microscopic cancer cells floating around which probably won't even show up on a scan at this point. The chemo/possibly radiation would be done to try to make sure that those microscopic cancer cells are killed off so that the cancer does not reappear somewhere else in your body.

I had cervical cancer which spread into a few lymph nodes and they did the chemo to sensitize the cancer cells, including those which are microscopic and probably exist but don't show up yet, then I was given radiation to kill those cells. They planned my radiation to extend out further than the area of lymph nodes which were cancerous because they said there were most likely cancer in others which were too tiny to see.

If I am correct it sounds like an early ovarian cancer and your chances of surviving it would be very good at this point. Again, I am no expert but just giving my 2 cents.

ADD: If they do give you chemo for this, theres a good chance you would not lose your hair. A lot of gynecologic cancers including cervical and ovarian cancers are treated with Cisplatin which doesn't usually cause hair loss. I had 8 weeks of it, once per week and I did not lose my hair. It was just an extra amount of hair falling out when showering, it maybe looked a little thinner overall to me but nobody else would notice.  (+ info)

How do you tell the difference between cystic and normal acne?

I read cystic acne was 'large pus filled pimples' and i have a few of those, but they go away relatively quickly, which i read cystic acne doesn't. So how do i tell what i have?
----------

i used to have cystic pimples until i changed my diet,so this probably might help you-------- a lot of food ingredients(not fresh meat, veg, fish, cheese, potato's,etc) are man made from chemicals, now if i gave you a teaspoon of chemical to drink, you probably wouldn't be surprised with the new cystic pimple growing the next day, how do i know? i lived this nightmare of cystic pimples,as one was dying, ping i could feel the next one coming, running home from school or getting up in the morning to look in the mirror(juli, stop looking in the mirror they won't go any quicker),making excuses not to go out and staying in to apply mud from mexico, slime from the bottom of the sea, face masks made from kangaroo poo,it looks a little bit better(who are you kidding)why do i only see one person in every million like me,because they aren't allergic to anything,oh no i got another one, this will be my last one,it's the end of my teenage years, this will be my last one i'm thirty and a half next week. i had 10 years of them, left mums house, bingo month later clear fresh complexion,if i went back to mums big spot again, mum said you're allergic to something,6 months later we found that it was a food (chemical)ingredient added as a food flavouring, sauces, gravy, flavours put on breadcrumbs, drinks, curries, lots of things. no more bending over when a fit boy passes so my hair falls over my face.it should be easy to find out what your eating that your allergic to

I have symptons of Cystic Fibrosis. Is it possible to start show the symptons in my 30's?

I am having a hard time breathing and seem to have attacks that come on all of a sudden. Also I t feels like something stuck in my lungs..I cannot remeber any signs when I was growing up. Is it possible to start showing signs of cystic fibrosis in my 30's?
----------

Yes, it is possible. Some of the previous answers are unbelieveable.
No, you don't have to be diagnosed prior to 2 years old and NO you don't have to spend your teenager years in the hospital. Some of you are reading out of a 1950's medical journal.
There are many different mutations with different manifestations.
There are MANY different forms of CF and there are documented cases of people being diagnosed in their 30's, 40's, 50's , 60's etc...
Good Look and I hope you find what is ailing you.  (+ info)

What is a good treatment for cystic pimples?

I would like to know, what is good to use on cystic pimples?
----------

Best way if to clear your body of toxins (the main cause of hormonal imbalance, thus acne). Once the inside it cleared, your acne will go away too. Well that's my experience, I've had acne for years before learning more about what caused it. I have used this detox method to get rid of toxins http://morereviewz.googlepages.com/acnefree.htm I've been acne free since then.

What is the average life expectancy for people with Cystic Fibrosis?

I'm pregnant with my first baby and I got some tests done and the doctors informed me that my daughter will have Cystic Fibrosis. My mother had a brother and sister who died from the disease when they were quite young. Anyway, I'm wondering what is the current life expectancy for children/people with Cystic Fibrosis and how can you best take care of them to maximize their life?

Is it possible to treat mild cystic acne without Accutane?

I have just a few very small cystic spots on my nose. They don't hurt, and they don't stand out in a particularly noticeable way. However, they've been there for a while, and I'd really like to treat it without using Accutane.

I'd appreciate any ideas, homemade remedies, and the like. Thanks!
I don't think Accutane is necessary because I've known people put on the drug and they have had much more serious spots, while I just have a few small ones on the nose.
----------

I worked for a dermatologist for six years, and am now a medical professional as well. Let me tell ya...Accutane is serious and for people with serious acne. However, it is overly used because people in general are so concerned with just one pimple. I won't go into depth about how severe Accutane is, because you obviously want to use something different, but is a very strong drug.

Truly cystic acne is typically painful. Are you sure it's cystic? Cystic ane is deep and usually a hard knot under the surface of the skin. Very rarely is there ever a pustule that appears on it (usually do not appear until it's almost gone anyway). If it is truly cystic, do not squeeze it. These forms of acne have "roots" and will only grow larger upon mashing or squeezing them.
Do not use any form of scrub on your face, if you have active pimples or acne. You may use a scrub if you have blackheads. Otherwise, scrubs break the skin and spread bacteria over the rest of your face, which in turn causes acne to spread.
Probably the most effective active ingredient in acne products, benzoyl peroxide kills P. acnes, helps remove excess oils from the skin and removes dead skin cells that clog pores. It is available in strengths from 2.5 percent to 10 percent, but it can cause excessive dryness, scaling, redness and minor swelling. It can also make your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) exposure.
Salicylic acid is an ingredient that slows shedding of cells inside the hair follicles, which prevents the pores from clogging. It may also break down whiteheads (clogged pores that have no opening) and blackheads (pores that are open and have a dark surface). Salicylic acid can cause mild stinging and skin irritation. OTC acne products are available with 0.5 percent to 2 percent salicylic acid.
There are other products with other ingredients as well, but these two are the most common in OTC medications and the most effective.
Here are some other ways to avoid acne breakouts:

-Avoid oily cosmetics, sunscreens and hair products. Instead use products labeled "oil-free" or "noncomedogenic," which means they won't clog pores.
-Wash problem areas twice daily with a nonmedicated soap or mild cleanser. But don't overdo it. Excessive washing and scrubbing can worsen acne.
-Apply just enough acne product to cover the problem areas.
-Use an oil-free, water-based moisturizer to help alleviate dry, peeling skin.
-Don't pick or squeeze blemishes. Infection or scarring may result.

**Treating acne with acne products takes time and patience. It may take four to six weeks of daily use of acne products to see results, and acne may look worse before it gets better. If your acne doesn't improve after two months of treatment, you may want to see your doctor or dermatologist for a prescription lotion or medication (which does not have to be Accutane).
There are tons of prescription medications out there that are extremely helpful and not nearly as severe as Accutane. If it is truly cystic acne, this is considered a type of Grade IV acne and is usually only completely treated by a dermatologist. You may want to try your own approach at home, using OTC meds, first, but if you keep getting the nodules, please see a doctor.  (+ info)

What is the difference between pus & serous fluid?

A small wound that is healing is draining a yellow-like fluid, serous fluid is a normal healing of a wound, but how can I tell if it's pus or serous fluid? This small wound is almost gone, but it is seeping this fluid!
----------

You have already answered the question. The would is healing and drain a small amount of serous fluid Protect when not at home and leave it open to the air in a controled environment(home). If it stops healing and looks worse with pain and swelling or red streaks, get professional help quickly.

While you are recovering you should not visit any are where you might come in contact with immuno-compromized people.  (+ info)
