How to avoid paraganglioma?
Hello everyone! My name is madeleine. I need help. How do you avoid getting paraganglioma.
The most common paraganglioma of the head and neck is the carotid body tumor followed by the jugulo-tympanic and vagal varieties.
Carotid body tumours (CBT) are a rare entity that should be considered in evaluating every lateral neck mass. The tumour is classically located in the carotid bifurcation, between internal and external carotid arteries.

Could them reveal Paraganglioma and Pheochromocytoma?
My previous 24-hour urine collection and blood test particularly for pheochromocytoma were said to be fine. Later one, my doctor of renal clinics ordered the following blood tests for me but I didn't know what they were for.
Among the blood tests they're:
-Renal function test
-Liver function test
-Chol, Trig, DHL, LDL (fasting)
-Complete blood count with differential
Could they help reveal or diagnose a pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma?
No the urine collection and previous blood tests are usually what's needed for diagnosis, the rest is just standard bloodwork. (+ info

How many people here have or have heard of paraganglioma?
i havent heard of it (+ info
I have been diagnosed with paraganglioma tumors. I know what these are but I am trying to find a new doctor? All of my doctors have pretty much given up hope. I have heard the Mayo Clinic is an awesome hospital. Would anyone know of any doctors??
I've never heard of drs giving up when treatment is available. Seems like radiation is a better treatment than surgery in these types of tumors. Also, can't see why gamma knife wouldn't be considered. I'm in NC and my dr was great. He is chief of neurosurgery at unc. He never once gave me any indication that he would do anything less than everything possible. (+ info
diagnois with paraganglioma has anybody heard of it?
tumor in the abdomen
A Paraganglioma is a rare neoplasm ( an abnormal growth of new tissue, benign or malignant ). Benign means basically, non-cancerous and malignant basically means, there is a chance that it is pre-cancerous or cancerous. These can be found in the abdomen, thorax ( chest cavity) or, in the head and neck region. They are usually considered benign and complete surgical removal results in cure. Paragnagliomas are found mainly in the abdomen ( 85% ) and the chest cavity ( Thorax = 12% ) and oonly 3% are found in the head and neck region. Most occur as single tumors. Familial paragangliomas ( inherited in 25 % of cases, are often mulitple ( more than one and, bilateral= on each side). The paragangliomas appear as a sharply circumscribed polyplie mass( es) and, they have a firm to rubbery texture. They are highly vascular ( rich in blood supply) and may have a deep red color. Here's a web: ( kind of technical but, informative)
I hope that this helps.

Treatment for Paraganglioma?
Hi, My father is 70 yrs old. He has bee diagnosed with multiple reccurent paraganglioma tumours in the intestine region. The first sugestion had been t get the tumours operated, which we followed. The Laproscopy before the operation showed 4 tumours, with one to be in the lower intestine region (lets call it t4). The t4 was also see to have the aorta (vein) passing through it. The surgeon had taken the help of a vasculor sergoun to get past the risk of bypassing the vein. The operation was done nearly 1 wk after this. During the operation, the Surgeons saw t4 to have spread rapidly and has spread through the small intestine region in such a way that it was impossible to get to the intestine. The other 3 tumours were removed. t4 is still left behind to grow and engulf the intestine. The doctor saw there are no more options and said there is no Chemotherapy availible for the same. I would like to understand if there is anything we could do through alternative medicine.
I'm sorry to hear about your father. Don't give up hope. There are ALWAYS options. Go to www.holistichealingguide.com and there you will find a map. Click on your region for a list of holistic practitioners in your area. You may be able to find someone there who can help you.
Be blessed! (+ info
