what does having a high red cell count mean?

I had to get blood taken and they said i had a high red blood cell count and said i have to drink 12 glasses of water a day and go back next week for another blood test. Is it dangerous?
----------

You will get MUCH better answers if you ask this in the health category. They're little brainboxes over there. I know practically nothing about health.

But, according to Google:
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/cancer/polycythaemia.htm
It seems it's called Polycythaemia. So your blood will be really thick, and I guess that will reduce the flow. This will make you tired, because your brain won't be getting the oxygen it needs to function properly. Apparently, it can also cause heavier bleeding.
You're far better to talk to your doctor about this s/he knows you, you're case and what's wrong with you. People over the internet don't.

Good luck!
If it was anything really serious your doctor would treat you right away. Just follow his/her advice and you'll be fine, I'm sure.

Can you move your arms during double red cell donation?

I am scheduled to give a double red donation this Saturday. I have done "regular" donations many times in the past, but never the double red. Since I have to sit there for 45 minutes, I was hoping I could bring a book and read: however, since there are needles in both arms, is it safe/allowed to move your arms?

My red cell and hematocrit levels are low, about 2 to 5 points low. How would that effect shoulder surgery?

This was discovered as part of a physical to see if I could undergo shoulder surgery (arthroscopic rotator cuff repair). I had back surgery 4.5 months ago with no anemia problems then. I don't know if my surgeon will schedule the surgery -- one to 1.5 months in the future with this reading or what can be done to improve it quickly.
----------

Probably won't matter, just be sure to take in a lot of iron. If it's too low they won't do the surgery because you run the risk of bleeding more than usual, or the risk of cardiac arrest if the Hematocrit is under 20 and you aren't on oxygen. Also surgery tends to lower it a few points, so they'll want to make sure you are strong enough for the actual surgery plus the point drop. Good luck.  (+ info)

What does red henna/mendi look like on pure black hair?

i have pure black hair, being east indian and all. so i wanna put red henna in it but i duno how it will look? like will it work? can someone give me some pics please? thankssā™„
----------

I have black hair with a natural brown tint in the sunlight and I did a henna once a few months back. It gave my hair a very light red tint to it that you can only see in the sunlight. On black hair it will give the hair more of red highlights than completely changing the hair color. The more you henna then the more the color will become vibrant, but it starts off as a very light, barely noticeable red tint. It also has healthy benefits for the hair. http://www.hennaforhair.com has a free ebook that will tell you more about it and it has pictures of henna on many hair colors and types.  (+ info)

What are does it mean to have red cell antibodies present in my blood?

It means your immune system has created an antibody (like a heat-seeking dart with a specific target) that is aimed at red blood cells. It may be to your own cells (auto-immune hemolysis) or to a different blood type red blood cell (very common).  (+ info)

if your STD test result say your red cell appears is un-remarkable, do iyou have herpes n your blood?

my test STD test result say my red cell appear un-remarkable. do that mean herpes is not in your blood.
----------

The red cell count has nothing to do with whether you have herpes or not. This is just part of a complete blood count that was probably also run. There has to be specific testing for herpes in order to find out whether you have this or not and a standard complete blood count (CBC) will not give this information.  (+ info)

If I dye my red hair brown will it go pure brown or will it still have a tinge of red?

Basically I died my hair bright red at Easter. Then when the roots were significantly showing i decided to go back to a more natural brown. It was brown for a bit but has now gone an orangey red colour. I've got a dark brown hair dye but am wondering would it be better to bleach my hair out first or just stick the brown dye on.
----------

If it's a permanent hair dye like nice'n'easy or something like that then it should take the colour out completely if you do it PROPERLY (Because I had a friend who did it herself and she didnt cover her hair completely - so take care) But if its a wash in wash out then yes - it will have a tint of your previous hair colour.

So it all depends on what your using & how well you do it :)  (+ info)
