Abnormal Pupillary Reflex in One Eye?
My dog is experiencing abnormal pupillary reflex in his right eye, the vet said his right eye could be blind, but his right eye is responsive to movements, like when i move his toy before his eye, the pupil moves. Is it really that his right eye is blind, what are the causes and how serious is it?
That vet is rather inexperience, he's new. He told me there's nothing that they could do or something like that, anyway he was dealing with my dog's tick fever, so I was more worried about that. Anyway I need to equip myself with some information first before I seek another vet's opinion on that. Any useful information, like causes, complications, what tests do doctors use etc? Thanks a lot!

wow patching the good eye in a dog (answer from other poster)? do not do that. bad info.
having the eye "track" with movement of your toy has little to do with whether thats a blind eye or not. a blind eye will track just as well as a seeing eye in most cases.
plenty of possible causes of afferent pupillary defect. dozens. trauma, neurological damage, glaucoma, old retinal detachment, tumor, MS, etc etc etc. few of which are treatable. glaucoma is sometimes treatable, but not really after they've developed an APD.
probably not cataracts or something easy to fix.
do not "patch" the good eye to try to make the bad eye "work". (

What does my abnormal (almost non-existent) knee reflex indicate to a physician?
What does my abnormal (almost non-existent) knee reflex indicate to a physician?
I've been out of work due to both a mental and physical illnesses for nearly two years, and have been awaiting a Social Security disability decision. I'm in the appeal phase, and recently had to go for a second medical examination with one of their doctors. My diagnoses include bipolar & panic disorders, personality disorder-NOS, PTSD, severe sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue syndrome. During this most recent exam, the doctor did the usual tapping to check my knee reflexes, and I must admit to never having known exactly what normal is supposed to be for these things. But both of my legs remained virtually motionless after being tapped. There was movement so slight (and a bit delayed) that it was barely noticeable. I know that in the past my legs have moved quite a bit more than that, and sometimes VERY briskly. What could be going on?
I'm only curious because I've noticed my reflexes in general are slower. I've had to stop driving because of it. Sometimes I wonder if it's because of the meds I'm on.

How soon does the letdown reflex happen when nursing?
I have been breast feeding my newborn for six days and I haven't noticed a letdown reflex. When should I expect it?
----------
It depends on how much of your milk has come in, if your buldging with excess milk (known as engorgement) your not going to feel it for a while because your breasts are already full. If your one of the lucky few who does not experience engorgement, then you may feel it any day now. If however, you are not producing enough milk for your baby (your baby should be urinating at least five times a day now, and passing bowl movements at least once) then call your doctor quickly. And just incase you don't know what it feels like (you may be experiencing it already) its just a small tingling sensation you feel when your milk really gets flowing. With my first child I felt it about 10 seconds into nursing, with my second I sometimes do not feel it at all. It just depends. don't worry, if your baby seems satisfied and urinating enough, then letdown is definantly happening. (

What is that weird reflex you have when someone squeezes your waist and you aren't expecting it?
This has probably happened to you before. You are talking with your friend, or doing something else, when someone grabs the side of your waist, either side, and it just makes you jump, like a reflex, and feels strange. I think it is because your kidney is in that area, but what is the reflex called? And how does it work?
It is kind of a strange sensitivity in that area, and it seems there is another spot on your butt near your tailbone.
Thanks in advance!

Its just from being startled. Internal organs have nothing to do with that. (

My gag-reflex doesn't work worth shit. How can I rid my stomach of it's contents quickly?
I think I possibly could have overdosed, but do not have money nor insurance to contact medical help. I don't have ipecac--would hydrogen peroxide work? Maybe I just need to dig deeper for the reflex?

I am not gonna say that I am totally sure about the answer.it is really depending on the personal mind.thus it would better for you to try to find the best answer yourself. Here www.HealthInsuranceFree.info is a good resource for reference though. (

How common is it to have an abnormal pap 6 mths following a colposcopy?
The colposcopy followed an abnormal pap and then an hpv test. The results of the hpv test concluded a high-risk type of hpv was detected. The colposcopy concluded mild dysplasia. The first pap following the colpo was abnormal still. I wondered how common that was only 6 mths after a colpo.
----------
Usually it can take up to (or more than) 2 years for a pap smear to come back with normal results. Till then, make sure you continue to see your doctor every 3-4 months until instructed otherwise. This is VERY important because if cervical cancer develops and is diagnosed early on, the survival rate is extremely high. (

Is a gag reflex needed to eat and swallow safely and prevent aspiration and how related is the gag to a cough?
If I am eating and something starts "going down the wrong way" I begin to cough, not gag. Would I not cough if I had no gag reflex? Does the gag reflex trigger coughing or are they separate and unrelated? I am trying to understand a speech therapist's theory that if I have no gag reflex I need to remain on a feeding tube and cannot begin to eat orally.
----------
You would check a person for a gag reflex for swallowing difficulties. This will prevent Choking
As its name suggests, your gag reflex is one of your natural reflex actions. It's designed to protect you from accidentally swallowing small objects and is a natural way to stop you from choking.
You can test your own gag reflex by touching the soft palate at the back of your throat (for example, by sticking a finger or two down your throat). Unless you are one of the rare people who suffer from no gag reflex, this should produce a natural gag response.
As part of your body's natural defense systems, your gag reflex normally serves you well (

What treatment is available for abnormal vaginal bleeding after stopping birth control?
I've been having abnormal vaginal bleeding (about a week before my period) for about a year and a half. I stopped taking birth control because I thought it may have been a cause, but the bleeding just got worse. Any suggestions?
I've been having abnormal vaginal bleeding (about a week before my period) for about a year and a half. I stopped taking birth control because I thought it may have been a cause, but the bleeding just got worse. I'd rather not go back on birth control right now and my doctors both said there's really nothing else one can do. Any suggestions?
----------
Birth control regulates when your period comes and usually for how long. When you get off of it your body gets all out of whack and it can take a long time for it to get back to normal. You can always try another form of birth control. The Nuva Ring seems to be pretty constant as far as time control goes, and it's the most effective type of birth control. (
