Rheumatoid Arthritis Nodule-Could anyone tell me?
if this bump on my elbow will go away. I have just been through a bout of a RA attack on my joints. Things are much better now with the help of my Dr and meds. I have this saggy nodule on my elbow that looks really gross. I had one little one a long time ago when I had had an attack of this terrible condition. Anyone that has RA knows how painfull it can be. Boy...I'm feeling so much better now but am really self contious about the lump. Do these usually disburse?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tx
----------
Yes, they will come and go. I have RA and they are very painful. This all depends on your body's inflammation process. Don't get stressed out, avoid high acidic foods like lemons, limes, tomatoes, and foods that contain them. Stay away form sodas especially Dr. pepper! Drink lots of water and make sure you take all of your medication and try to take them all at the same time each day.
Ask your doctor about methotrexate in combination with embrel. I have also noticed a big difference when I have a flare up to call the doctor immediately and go in to get a corticosteroid shot in those joints so I won't be in so much pain. You can also get the shots in the lesions. The shots are painful but in 2 to 3 days you feel so much better and the inflammation will go away faster.
Hope you feel better and take care. (

Can rheumatoid arthritis affect the brain?
I've had RA since 1990 and have experienced just about all symptoms including lung nodules, but recently I had a few mini-strokes. Could this be the RA affecting my brain?
----------
Sadly autoimmune diseases seem to clump together. I have several myself, but not RA, so can not tell you there, but I'd strongly advise that you be tested for other disorders that may have caused the TIA's
I am giving a link to known clotting disorders. I have one of these and my mother a different one, so I've become fairly well versed in clots.
Best wishes to you. (

What is a hypoechoic solid thyroid nodule?
I just found out I have a single hypoechoic solid nodule my ultrasound report says most likely represents a small adenomatous or collateral nodule. My mother had her thyroid removed and her brother had thyroid cancer. I will be seeing an endocrinologist, but until I can get to her I am worried about what this means.
----------
In general terms it means it reflects less ultrasound then surrounding tissue. Such nodules have 20 % risk of being malignant compared to 5 % risk for hyperechoic nodules (

What is the growth rate of a thyoid nodule?
I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule about a year ago. Since that time I have had several tests including a biopsy which came out fine. The thyroid nodule measured at 1.3 cm in Sept. 2005 when the first ultrasound was performed. I had a follow up ultrasound done today that measured it at 2.6 cm. I am taking synthroid for a underactive thyroid which should also be suppressing the growth of the nodule as well. I was just wondering if the growth rate is common or not?
----------
Characteristics of the nodule
The history of the mass should be reviewed carefully. Time of initial appearance, rate of growth, and any associated symptoms especially can assist the clinician in determining the malignancy potential of the mass.
Rapid growth is an indicator of malignancy. Therefore, further diagnostic tests should be obtained expediently.
Transient tenderness within the mass at any time may signify an inflammatory process. However, this same symptom may also be caused by tumor hemorrhage, necrosis, or cyst formation. This information can be used to assist the clinician in determining malignancy of the mass. (

can you have rheumatoid arthritis without it showing up in blood work?
I have rheumatoid arthritis like symptoms, but have a lot of blood work and nothing shows up. Is it possible it not be in the blood. It hasn't been a year yet, it started about June or July sometime around there. I am 14 if that means anything. I have also been diagnosed with fabry disease, both clinically and genetically.
----------
In short yes.
Arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, is difficult to diagnose, because there is not a single test that works for everyone. There are also a number of other conditions and factors that can explain differences in blood test results, so even if you show a high C-Reactive Protein Levels, for example, this doesn't necessarily mean you have arthritis.
Since there is no single test, doctors usually preform a number of different tests, as well as looking at the symptoms of the patient. In many cases, it also isn't that they are testing for arthritis specifically, but rather that they are testing for other similar conditions to rule them out.
As far as your age goes, people of all ages can develop arthritis, but it is more common among the elderly. However, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis does occur. (

What kind of exercises is good for people with rheumatoid arthritis?
I have Rheumatoid Arthuritis and I want to excercise to help my joints and to lose some weight. Anyone here know of any good prgrams to get involved in that I won't suffer from for days after doing it?
----------
Swimming, walking and you can walk in your house. I bought Leslie Sansone Walk for Life tapes and I love them. You can start out slow with 1 mile and build up to a fast 5 miles. Check her out on line. Also maybe pilates and yoga. I'm sure if you go on line for these they will have ones that are for beginners and for people that have some things wrong with them. Give it a shot and just stop if it hurts. Good luck and you will feel better if you exercise. (

What is a REALLY awesome gift helpful to someone with rheumatoid arthritis in their knee and shoulder?
One of my family members has really bad rheumatoid arthritis (to the point where she can not get out of the bed some days) and I want to know what I can buy that would be of the most use to her.
Thank you SO MUCH for your help !
----------
You sound like you really care about this relative. If that is so, then you don't really have to buy anything. Why not make her some personal coupons/gift certificates for your services. Things like "One hour of _________" being whatever she likes to do...a game, reading, straightening up around the house, and so on. That's much better than anything you could buy. Don't you think? (

What could cause a small, sore nodule just inder the skin in my armpit?
I found a small nodule just under the skin in my armpit because of tenderness in the area. I don't have any symptoms of flu, cold, etc. that should cause inflammatory response. Is this probable a sebaceous cyst? Should I see a doctor or wait a few days to see if there's any change? What type of doctor should I see?
