How come no one has tried to use metabolism as a way to cure fat?

What im trying to say is why hasn't anyone used someone's metabolism to get rid of their fat? For example, if you invent a pill which tricks your cell's metabolism into consuming more energy then it would also consume your fat and anything you eat in a matter of hours, so why hasn't anybody discovered a pill like that?
----------

That is an excellent question. I have two theories to that.
1. Maybe because there are diseases and cancer that calls for attention on creating a cure for. ( Which if you asks me, if they make a cure for obesity (pill form) then alot of diseases would cease to exist) such as diabetes and other things obesity contributes to.
2. There is already a cure for a fat and the metabolism, exercising is considered a way to rid yourself from unwanted wieght, and weight gain.

I am with you though, there should be a pill or something that would speed the metabolism up, causing fat to deacrease. I mean why not ? Really obesity is a problem in America because we have many contributing cultures that equal up to one problem that simple is " America has excellent food ".  (+ info)

What is a good way to raise your metabolism without taking in too many calories?

I know the general way of keeping your metabolism up throughout the day (Small healthy snacks, 6 small meals a day).

I am wondering if anyone has any other methods, or types of foods that will give your metabolism a boost.

Thanks in advance!
Another great answer FormerFarmBoy, Thanks!

Food-eat lots of vegetables(not starches-potatoes, carrots, peas) Vegetables take more energy to digest than what they contain. Eat enough protein so that you do not use your muscle as fuel. Under most conditions, the body breaks down muscle for fuel first before it burns fat. I eat "large" healthy snacks throughout the day.
The best metabolism booster is to add muscle. One pound of muscle will use 800 calories per day(at rest)  (+ info)

How can I boost my metabolism without pills or weird diet drinks?

I've decided to take a 4 month long diet challenge to see how much weight I can lose my August4th (my brithday)
Is there any way I can boost my metabolism naturally (fruit veggies so on) without costly pills and gross diet shakes?
:) Any other tips on weight loss (again no pills or shakes) are totally welcome. :)
Thanks!

I'm 16 by the way and havent been eating right. I'm trying to change that now.

Any diet pill or tea add will be ignored

A diet low in (or free of) starch and sugar will definitely boost metabolism. In fact, you can consume about 300 calories more per day while eating this type of diet.  (+ info)

How can you make your metabolism work fast?

They say that if you have a high metabolism you can burn the food that you ate faster, therefore you won't get fat.
----------

it's not easy to be thin and vice versa. u just have to eat less- a balanced diet/ check sometimes the calories of what u r eating.
and exercise more.
cause if it is not proportional( the exercise and the eating)
it's either u'll lose fat or gain fat.
be more active than what u had consumed... just be activ, don't just sit there and do nothing  (+ info)

How do you make your metabolism go back to normal after dieting?

I heard that when you diet your metabolism goes down because your body is slightly starving. How do you make it go back up after dieting? And how do you not exercise as often or as hardcore and eat normal and not gain weight without being on a permanent diet?
----------

Unless you drastically restrict calories for a very long period of time, no permanent damage is done to your metabolism. I challenge anyone to dig up a study to prove otherwise.

That said, get a post-diet sluggish metabolism back on track while increasing calories, you should slowly add calories into your diet over the course of a few weeks, while INCREASING your exercise levels. Keep an eye on the scale and on your measurements.

The idea is to keep increasing calories while staying at the same weight. You will be increasing the rate of tissue turnover (read:metabolism) through all the exercise, while getting your body accustomed to a much higher food intake. After you have maxed out your exercise (6-8 hours a week), cut back on the exercise and your food intake just a bit, and then just monitor your progress to make sure you are not gaining or losing weight.

This is also a good strategy to use for a couple of weeks BEFORE going on a fat loss diet to get your metabolism really revved up before you reduce calories.  (+ info)

How long does it take for your body metabolism to get used to a diet/exercise?

I have heard that if you are dieting to loose weight, once your body gets used to your diet, it adjusts itself to the calorie intake and you cannot burn anymore. [Your metabolism slows down]

for e.g. If i eat 2000 calories a day and i burn 2000 calories as well. Now if i reduce it to 1500 so it means that i am burning 500 calories extra,

How long does it take for my body metabolism to slow down to 1500 calories a day?
Same with workout as well, If i burn 2500 calories by a particular workout, how long will it take for my metabolism to slow down and reduce the calories i burnt?
----------

It can take about 2 weeks or so before it's back in full swing from fasting. During fast, in about 3 days, the body will live off fat reseves, then start catabolizing muscle tissue, but water is essential

Do it gradually. It should take around two months if you follow a strict diet of eating small meals every hour.

well i been on a diet for 9 days now. my calorie intake is 1000-1200 calories. i also was drinking 1 -2 gallons of water a day. i lost 12 pounds in 9 days, but i think it does cause rapid weight loss but for only a short amount of time. but it also depends how active you are. if your are really active then your body is going to need more food to burn for energy. and since you would be eating 1000-1200 calorie like i was its going to use fat. but i suggest have a calorie intake that low take some vitamins as well. because your body wont be getting enough nutrients.

How long does it take to fix a metabolism?

I burn about 1000 to 1500 calories a day with exercise, and only take in 1500 to 2000 calories in food. I've been doing this for a year and totally screwed up my metabolism, and developed a little bit of eating disorderish behavior. About a week ago I threw out my scale and started eating a lot more. I understand that I will probably gain some weight before my metabolism is fixed and kicks in again, but how long will that take?
----------

It can take about 2 weeks or so before it's back in full swing. See a nutritionist or talk to your doctor if you are still worried.  (+ info)

How can I boost my metabolism and and get more energy?

I have a slow metabolism and tired all the time. Anybody know of home remidies, alternative medicine or vitamins that would help?
----------

Eat breakfast as this kick starts your metabolism, plenty of water, fruit and veg. Sounds dull but it's what our body is designed to work with.  (+ info)

How much money is spent annually on steroid research?

I'm doing a project on the side-effects of steroids and performance enhancing drugs, and I need to know the total amount spent on steroid research, not testing of individuals. If someone could answer this with a link to website I'd greatly appreciate that. Thanks.
