Is stress causing me to have tics on the left side of my face?

I've been stressed much more in the past but have never gotten tics. Recently, I'd randomly get very subtle tics on the left (my left) side of my face. Should go to a doctor and check it out? I only know of the more widely known tic-related diseases like tourette's and parkinson's any suggestions.

I'd be sure to go to the doctor within this month. It's hard to tell for sure, so make sure you get professional assistance before it gets worse!  (+ info)

Does anyone have any experience with a child with tics and nervous habits?

My daughter is 9 years old. Since she was 6 she has displayed different facial tics. She blinks her eyes, scrunches her nose, and does this chin/ neck thing. Her doctor thinks she will most likely grow out of it. She does not have ADHD or ADD which I understand is common with Tourette's. I am just not sure if she has tics or Tourette's. Also, my nephew who is seven just started displaying the same tics as her. We have no other family history of tics. I would like to know if anyone has experienced something similar with children or themselves. I would really like to help my daughter. No one at school has noticed yet, but she is very sensitve and I am afraid that they will.

i did this when i was little and just out grew it...its mostly because i started forgeting abot it so just give her some time my cousin is also doing that because her dad used to do it but my family just ingnored it and they will grow out of it  (+ info)

Where should I take child who has voice tics?

Say a child has throat and voice tics. I already took her to our pediatrician. Must we get a recommendation to an other type of doctor?

Might a placebo pill possibly work to lessen the voice tics?
It sounds like tourettes. I hate to say that but that's what it sounds like. I hope it's not.
----------

I would think an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Dr. would have some kind of answer. It sounds like something within the larynx or vocal cords.
They should no what to do for the child.  (+ info)

Can tics in tourettes be caused by a magnesium disorder?

My son is 5 and has tics. His doctor said that it is all signs of tourettes. He goes back to the doc in Nov for the diagnosis. I asked his doctor if he could have a magnesium defeciency and she said that it was not very likely. I am still being pressured by family to give my son a magnesium suppliment . He is not complaining of the tics at all. Some days they are really severe and others we hardly notice them at all. What can I do other than ignore it like the doc said and don't worry about meds until my son is complaining of the tics.
----------

Put him on magnesium anyway, there really isn't any harm, most people are pretty deficient to begin with. Worth a try. Me and my mother take it for muscle spasms, it works pretty well.  (+ info)

Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. It is free via the searchbar at www.mercola.com "EFT" & "EFT therapists" or www.tapping.com (13 free videos) or www.emofree.com Professional is best. - There is a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: "Even though I sometimes experience tics, I deeply and completely accept myself."

Hypnosis is merely a heightened state of suggestibility, in which you are better able to communicate with your subconscious mind. 85% of people are suggestible, to some degree, so you could either seek professional hypnotherapy, or hypnosisdownloads.com has ones on treatment for facial tics, and muscle spasms.

You may well suffer from an anxiety disorder, such as OCD. View http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_25.html about both, then pages f, & i; take the quizzes.  (+ info)

How do you deal with/treat tics associated with Autism?

My 7 year old has a mild form of autism and as of recently has been exhibiting more tics (in the last 3 months). Is there anything I can do to treat them? He's currently on Adderall XR and Risperdal...
----------

my son started tic about one year ago (he has severe autism). i don't know how the meds your son is on could effect him or if this could be a side effect from one of them. i took my son to the dr when he started and she told me to make sure he stays away from all types of chemicals...cleaners, etc. and to cut off all caffeine from him. you could try these two things and see if you have any results.  (+ info)

How do i get rid of nervous tics?

I have nervous tics i can stop then when i try and focus on them. When i get stressed out they got worse. When i drink caffeine they get worse. Ive been tested and its not tourettes. Is there any ways to stop these tics? My dad had them when he was younger and he grow out of them. Mine have gottin better since i was younger but how can i get rid of them now?
----------

Are you sure it's not tourette's? Because when people with tourette's get stressed out or drink caffeine, their tics get worse. It's also hereditry, and you said that your dad had tics when he was younger too, but he grew out of them. This is also common for people with tourette's. The tics can improve and sometimes go away completely in late teen and early adult years. There are no specific medical or screening tests that can be used in diagnosing Tourette's, it is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed, partly because of the wide expression of severity, ranging from mild (the majority of cases) or moderate, to severe (the rare, but more widely-recognized and publicized cases). The only way of knowing is if you match the diagnostic criteria. The diagnostic criteria states that multiple motor tics and at least one vocal tic must be present for at least one year, onset before the age of 18. They also take family history into account. So I think it would be a good idea to see another person and get a second opinion on it. A neurologist would be your best bet. If you don't have vocal tics and never did, then it probably isn't tourette's, but chronic motor tic disorder. Good luck and I hope I helped. :)  (+ info)

How to stop facial tics? At least I think that is what it is...?

I have a very horrible, annoying habit of squinting and wrinkling my nose. I read up on facial tics and I understood them to be involuntary. I try not to do it, but I always end up doing it, and I look silly. Would this be considered involuntary? I just want to know how to stop it. It's embarrasing. Home remedies or herbal remedies have never worked for me. I am on medicine right now for bipolar and OCD, maybe this is the cause. Or, does anyone know of a solution?
----------

So far as I have read there is no "cure". These tics will be more pronounced when you attempt to avoid them. The avoidance creates a heightened level of anxiety/pent up energy. Your body will inevitably release it. When it does the added anxiety of failure worsens the tic. Tourette's is often co-diagnosed with OCD.

I am in the process of being diagnosed. Possible ADHD/OCD.  (+ info)
