Is a vitamin B 12 deficiency a major medical problem?
My doctor has reccomended Noscobel spray as I have a major deficiency in my b12 level. I have chronic Q fever and struggle with my health. What are the side effects of this medicine? Thanks for your help.
----------
To answer your first question-- yes, a major B12 deficiency can be a major medical problem. From my perspective, its hugest problem is causing neurological problems from neuropathies to even deadly strokes. Now, with chronic Q fever you might have heart problems and heart valve problems from this. These heart valve problems could make you even MORE at risk for a stroke. And, with possible heart valve disease, your anemia could be made even worse!
So, rather than relying on a wikipedia entry on B12 deficiency, please do know that in your clinical context, this is DEFINITELY considered a major medical problem and B12 must be corrected.
Q fever is pretty rare! How on earth did you get this? What was your occupation and where are you from? (

deficiency of which vitamin causes white hair in teenage?
is it because of stress or just deficiency of some vitamin or something else? is there something which can be done to prevent it ? like applying olive oil to hair ??
need some suggestions please !
----------
premature graying of hair is genetically determined. It is not caused by any lack of vitamins and there is no definite cure for that. The only thing you can do is to dye your hair to match your original hair color. If you only see 1 or 2 white hair there, just remove them or ignore them. If too much white hair appears, just dye it (

What low level of Vitamin B12 would be considered deficiency anemia?
Yesterday I was told by my doctor my Vitamin B12 level is 97, and that I should take supplements. She didn't say I was anemic, but everyone I've told has been shocked and asked if I was anemic. Any ideas?

you can probably find your answer on this site somewhere! http://www.dsib.org/vitamin_B12?utm_source=sm&utm_medium=blog_posts&utm_term=vitamin_B12&utm_content=vitamin_B12&utm_campaign=sm
it's a website called the dietary supplement information bureau and it has a lot of information on pretty much every vitamin and mineral, as well as what disabilities and diseases it can treat. hope this helps :) (

If someone has a Vitamin D deficiency what changes will take place when the vitamins levels reach ideal levels?
Of these changes, which will be noticeable to the person who had the deficiency? The deficiency is such that a prescription for 50,000 (fifty thousand) units twice a week for 8 weeks was issued.

I had basically the same thing. I noticed that a lot of the body aches and pains (like bones and and arthritis type feeling) went away completely. (

What sort of improvements can i expect if take vitamin b-12 supplements for my deficiency?
i was recently diagnosed with this deficiency and was just curious what solving the problem would do for me
will i have more energy and be less depressed?
also will my metabolism work better?
----------
You will have MUCH more energy ... you won't need to sleep as much ... you'll be much happier ... your moods will improve ... I think you'll find that once your B12 levels are normal again you're going to feel fantastic!!
I too had a B12 deficiency and after taking supplements I felt sooo good afterwards, better than I ever had. I was giggly and hyperactive and happy again ... and I didn't feel like I needed to lay in bed all the time either, almost like a new lease on life. (

Could Vitamin Deficiency be the reason for my burning tongue and not being able to tast anything?
i didnt anything but jello basically for two weeks because i had my tonsils taken out. Wednesday was the first day i started eating. Do you think If i take vitamins rich with iron and vitamin b12 do you thing my taste buds and burning tongue will go away soon?
----------
Take B-complex, plus an additional tablet of B6 daily. Not at bedtime, since the niacin in the complex will keep you awake, and you need your rest while recovering from surgery.
It's best not to overdo the vitamins, of course. You also need nutrition from foods. Why not try milk and banana smoothies and soft foods other than Jello, which is loaded with sugar and dyes. Whey protein shakes are good, if you like the taste.
Sorry it has taken you two weeks to start eating again. Good luck and a speedy recovery! (

Can teeth stains from a vitamin deficiency be removed?
My teeth have been an off-whiteish color for as long as I can remember. I brush regularly everyday. I use/have tried several whitening toothpastes but that has not helped. I was told that this discoloration is from a vitamin deficiency when I was little and my permanent teeth were forming under my baby ones, though I don't know specifically which vitamin(s) would cause this. Would any whitening products work on my teeth? What about professional whitening methods? I really want healthy white teeth! Please help!

My guess is that it is due to chemical composition throughout rather than something attached to the surface. Still, there may be hope. I learned in chemistry class that some dentists have a paste that can "remineralize" teeth, and they use this in some children. You should look into that. There is one product I know of that is available by mailorder called recaldent MI or something like that. Here is the link:
http://www.gcamerica.com/mipaste.html
Be somewhat cautious when playing chemistry with your body. The ratio of minerals that the teeth are composed of is very specific. The human body is designed to maintain homeostasis and all sorts of balance, including chemical. So even supplement pills go through the body's process and are allocated how the body "sees" fit. In the case of a cream/paste, you are applying it directly to the teeth, and it's going to bond where it may. Too much of one mineral can make the tooth brittle or soft. So do some reading first and follow the instructions carefully- also err to the conservative side if there is any doubt.
Just be careful of dentists that do unneccessary removal of teeth so they can get practice putting in caps/veneers/false teeth. My wife's dentist used his authority to convince my friend to remove three teeth which had no decay or no major problems ("we're going to remove three 'bad' teeth"). Now she has three fake teeth and a triple abscess in her roots due to this shoddy dentistry.
Good luck. (

What affects does a severe deficiency of vitamin D have on the body? And can you take vitamin D IV?
my vitamin D level is 23.. I have been on vitamin D supplements for almost 5 months and it continues to drop. Now I am suffereing weakness, muscle weakness, bone pain, chest shortness of breath, etc.
----------
What form of vitamin D supplements are you taking? and how much are you taking?
First, you should be taking cholecalciferol (NOT ergocalciferol).
Second, if you are as deficient as it sounds, you should be taking MASSIVE doses (at least 100,000 IU per day).
Third, do you have a malabsorption problem? Vitamin D is fat soluble, consequently it may not be well absorbed if you have pancreatic insufficiency, gall-bladder dysfunction, or common types of malabsorption disorders such as Celiac Disease.
Lastly, why is your doctor not giving you vitamin D injections?
The symptoms you describe are consistent with severe vitamin D deficiency. You need effective treatment ASAP. If your doctor cannot/will not help, get a referral to a specialist or find a new doctor.
Best wishes and good luck. (
