I have the condition Alopecia areata where hair loss is involved.
if i go to my regular doctor and tell him about it, will he prescribe meds to me? are those meds healthy and wont do harm to my body or skin or hair or anything?
and will it help grow my hair back?
because i almost have no hair on my hairline and its bothering me. hair is very important to me too lol
There is no cure for Alopecia, I read up on it and the only thing that worked on my scalp was Head and Shoulders and that's just to relieve the irritated skin. I heard that some dermatologist can give you a steroid shot in the balding area but you have to keep getting them. There is'nt anything the doctor can give you to cure it if that's what you are looking for.. (+ info
alopecia areata means that your hair falls than grows back and than falls etc..(acutally getting bald)My friend has alopecia and she is really depressed she keeps saying she is ugly !and she is NOT ugly ,she always says that no guy well ever love her, what can i do to make her feel better? and i know she well find her guy one day.
I like shaving my head and I think it can look nice even on girls. I like women with long hair in general but some women can look very sexy without hair too. (Natalie Porman looks realy nice with or without hair). So I wouldn't mind dating a nice girl without hair if she has a good heart is romantic and kind. I would prefer her not to wear a wig though. It's not natural. So yea depending on her looks and personality a bald girl can be very sexy. I hope this can healp. I wish her good luck . (+ info
So... I'm learning about hair loss and autoimmune diseases. And, I was just wondering, how big does a patch have to be for it to be considered alopecia areata?
I mean.. if you see a patch that's like, smaller than a penny, would that be alopcia areata? Wouldn't it just be a patch for a while because hair falls out everyday?
My daughter has this disease. I noticed it when she was 4 and took her to the doctor. The patches can be the size of a dime, penny. or even quarter. She usually has 1 or 2. Her dermatologist gives her a topical solution to put on the spots, but nothing really helps. There is no known cause or cure. You will start seeing the hair grow back gradually and sometimes it grows back one or two thick strands at a time & sometimes it grows back as new blonde baby hair. The spots come and go every 6 months or so. The only one that can diagnose this is a doctor or preferrably a dermatologist.
But yes even a dime size spot can be alopecia!~ (+ info
Will a hair transplant get rid of areata alopecia for good?
I have areata alopecia at the top of my head in two spots. If i were to get a hair transplant in those two spots would i no longer have areata alopecia?
If you have tried other conservative measures such as Minoxidil or finasteride and they are not successful, hair transplant is an option to cover the bald spots, but the areata alopecia condition will still be there. Several transplant sessions may be needed. The decision to go for hair transplant is expensive, and poses some risks such as infection and scarring. If you decide to go ahead, be sure to choose a good doctor. There is this article about the side effects that you may encounter after undergoing hair transplant. What hair products are safe with alopecia areata?
My mom has alopecia areata and is currently undergoing treatment but I am wondering if certain hair products (shampoos, dyes) are considered to affect hair regrowth?
if i had this problem i would wash my hair in the purest soap form possible and that would be something called Green Soft Soap which might be available in chemist or pharmacy...with your Mom already taking medication i would avoid heavy chemical hair products for the moment....i have an old book and it says that for hair restorers there is a choice of lavender, lime, nasturtium, nettle and thyme so maybe you could ask at a Herbalist or Health Food store/shop and see what they have got there for hair...hope this helps..s (+ info
Is it bad to get a perm if you have alopecia areata?
I am 17 and I have alopecia areata. Right now I have many bald spots on the bottom half of my head. I am so sick of having straight hair, it's ugly if I just shower and go. I definatly don't have enough time everyday to style it so I really want to get a spiral perm. Would It make my hair problem worse?

How do you help a child feel less self-concious with alopecia areata?
My son has alopecia areata and does not want to shave his head bald. He also does not want to grow his hair out longer. My only option is to dramatically boost his self-confidence in a very shot time without making him vain. Any ideas?
WELL I DEALT WITH IT WHEN I WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL ALMOST 15 YEARS OLD. IMPORTANT TIME IN MY LIFE...
I HAD LONG HAIR DOWN TO MY BUTT SO YOU SEE THE PICTURE...
THEN MY HAIR STARTED FALLING OUT IN SPOTS FIRST ON THE SIDES OF MY HEAD THEN THE BACK THEN THE TOP...I DIDN'T CUT IT EITHER...
MINE DID EVENTUALLY GROW BACK..
THERE IS NOT MUCH YOU CAN SAY TO HIM NOW THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
HE KNOWS WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE.
YOU CAN GIVE HIM THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IT IS... SO WHEN PEOPLE ASK HIM, HE CAN TELL THEM...
WHY HE HAS THIS..
.IT IS HARD AND AT TIMES... EMBARRASSING BUT, HE WILL GET THROUGH IT...I DID..
HANG IN THERE MOM...
HE WILL BE OK.. (+ info
Does alopecia areata have anything to do with asthma or allergies. Can i heal alopecia areata any way?
I am 12 almost 13 and in seventh grade and have had alopecia since the summer before third grade. I am really sick of having it and i have lost it fully a couple of times and a little several times. I am desperate of getting rid of alopecia so if you could tell be if there are any cures for it and if it is related to astma and alleriges or stress. Any other information would also be greatly apreciated.
Sweetie, I wish there was a cure- heck from what I have read they don't even know what causes it. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, thankfully I have only had spots. I did the steroid injections and it helped me. People kept telling me it was stress, but there was no new stresses in my life, so I don't believe that.
Keep your chin up, educate people about it.

Craving beets? Could this possibly be connected to my alopecia areata treatment?
I've been getting the squaric acid treatment for my alopecia areata, and recently the doctor upped the dosage! Now I've been craving beets. I looked it up, and it says beets can lower inflammation, and that's what the squaric acid is doing - inflaming my scalp.
Could this possibly be why I'm craving beets? If it is, wow that's bizarre! I think I've only had beets once or twice in my life.
Beets are incredibly high in beta carotene. However, moreso, beets are a liver purgative.. meaning they clean the blood from toxins. I would suspect that your body is trying to tell you that the drug you are on is hard on your liver. Just a guess based on what I know to be true of beets. (+ info
