If you childs father had antisocial personality disorder what woudl you do?
We split up a year ago, he abused my son verbally one time physically adn i left him... he threatened kidnapping, threaten me and him... no hes in prison AGAIN, (note he being a criminal since 12) ... i don't want him around my son... at All... what would you do?
----------
You need to get a permanent Civil Protection Order or Restraining Order against him ASAP.
You had a kid with a man you knew was a long term criminal - let me not even get on this one...
You need to move far, far away from where he can find you (that is, if what you're saying is true.)
Good luck...

Is the incidence of antisocial personality disorder higher among fetal alcohol effected teens?
My step-son has non-diagnosed Fetal Alcohol Effect I believe. I know for a fact his mother drank alcohol while pregnant. He will be 16 soon and is totally disrespectful to me as well as everyone he comes into contact with. He lies and steals, he is failing most of his classes in school. He absolutley will not follow any rules. He drinks and does drugs. His greatest interest is fighting. And he takes no responsibility for his actions. Everything is someone else's fault.
----------
He needs to attend Ala-Teen for teens with alcholic parents. His drinking and drugging are probably causing the agression. (

An English one, and he's not streetwise.

What Causes Antisocial Personality Disorder?
Evaluate the relative contributions of nature and nurture to antisocial personality disorder.
----------
The exact cause of APD is not known, but biological or genetic factors may play a role.
If a family member has had the disorder (especially the parents)it increases the chance of the disorder. A number of environmental factors in the childhood home, school, and community may also contribute to the disorder.
Robins (1966) found an increased incidence of sociopathic characteristics and alcoholism in the fathers of individuals with antisocial personality disorder. He found that, within such a family, males had an increased incidence of APD, whereas females tended to show an increased incidence of somatization disorder instead.[12]
Bowlby (1944) saw a connection between antisocial personality disorder and maternal deprivation in the first five years of life. Glueck and Glueck (1968) saw reasons to believe that the mothers of children who developed this personality disorder usually did not discipline their children and showed little affection towards them. They would also usually be alchoholics, and be very impulsive and/or violent. These factors all could lead to an unstable home.
Adoption studies show that both genetic and environmental can contribute to the development of the disorder. These studies have also have shown that genetic factors are more important for adults with the disorder, while environmental factors are more important in antisocial children. (Lyons et al., 1995)[12] (

What is it like to suffer from Antisocial Personality Disorder?
Share
----------
They DON'T suffer. They have lack of empathy, superficial charm, and inflated self appraisal. They basically have the absence of any type of "sad" feelings. So, it's like having no conscience. They also have reckless disregard for safety of self or others.
In my job I work with many individuals with APD. The essential feature for those with APD is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. Deceit and manipulation are considered essential features of the disorder.
Note to Cajunbaby: Antisocial Personality Disorder is not the same as being an "unsocial" person and wanting to stay home or stay to yourself. That's more of a Social Anxiety Disorder... Hope that helps. (

I think I have Dissocial personality disorder/Antisocial personality disorder please help.?
I feel no remorse or guilt ever.
Here is my question what is the difference between "Dissocial personality disorder," and "Antisocial personality disorder."
----------
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual's sense of self-identity. Originally thought to be at the "borderline" of psychosis, people with BPD suffer from a disorder of emotion regulation. While less well known than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), BPD is more common, affecting 2 percent of adults, mostly young women.1 There is a high rate of self-injury without suicide intent, as well as a significant rate of suicide attempts and completed suicide in severe cases.2,3 Patients often need extensive mental health services, and account for 20 percent of psychiatric hospitalizations.4 Yet, with help, many improve over time and are eventually able to lead productive lives.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Personality denotes characteristic ways of thinking, feeling, behaving, and reacting to the environment. A personality disorder is said to exist when a person chronically uses mechanisms of coping in an inappropriate, stereotyped, and maladaptive fashion. Personality disorders are enduring and persistent styles of behavior and thought, not atypical episodes.
This both disorders can be treated but with differant tequinues and circumstance of the patients care and well being.
One remorse or guilt has nothing related to this subject manner is just a sense of who you are not how you feel.Is a personility that separates you from one thing to another transit.
I'm not your therpist but..I would treat a patient like that with self therphy and natural herbs. To patients who have 2 or more issues going on.I let them try heal themselves before I start the treatment and one on one problem issue ratio. In other words.Self help and self healing before the meds take over.
