Can cervical dysplasia cause a miscarriage?

After just having a miscarriage I have so many questions regarding why it happened. Has anyone had cervical dysplasia and had a successful pregnancy? Or can you be more prone to a miscarriage if you have mild cervical dysplasia?

There is no studies or evidence of your concerns. I do feel for your loss, but its not healthy to think in these terms.

If you do have cervical dysplasia, you should opt for a colposcopy and a biopsy to make sure you're ok.  (+ info)

If you have cervical dysplasia caused by HPV can you have warts?

My girlfriend had mild to moderate cervical dysplasia caused by HPV, she had it froze off. The doctor never said anything about genital warts, she also got tested for stds. Is it possible that she could have the strain that causes genital warts and not know it. I have never seen any warts in her.

They are 30+ HPV types that are found in the genital area.

These 30+ HPV types have two categories low risk HPV types…types rarely seen in cancer and most often associated with visible genital warts…..and high risk HPV types…those type that have the potential to cause abnormal cell changes…that left untreated can progress to a cancer.

HPV testing is not included in standard STD screening. HPV is an STD....it is transmitted through sex. HPV is not seen in blood test...it is found in tissue of the skin or in the lining of the cervix..the test to diagnosis high risk HPV is using a sampling of the cervix.

Visible genital warts are usually caused by low risk HPV types 6 or 11.

Cervical dysplasia is usually due to a high risk HPV type that caused abnormal cell changes of the cervix.

Many of us carry more than one HPV type. You can have both a low risk HPV type or high risk HPV types and never show a sign of warts on the vulva or abnormal cell changes of the cervix.

Our HPV test is a screening of only the cervix...and only for high risk HPV types. The HPV test does not tell us what specific HPV types we carry on the cervix.

The HPV test did not screen her vulva...

Freezing removes the abnormal cells that the virus creates....many times after the virus is removed from the cervix...the virus goes into a low viral load and it is not seen in any test.

If you have had sex with this girl...you most probably share her HPV type...though the virus may go into a sleeping stage where it is not seen in test...there is a chance that we may still transmit the virus.
In answer to your question yes she may carry a low risk HPV type on the vulva…and it never show a wart. There is no FDA approved method of screening for the vulva in absence of visible genital warts…as there is no standard screening that has meet FDA approval for the male penis. Men many times carry an HPV type with no signs or symptoms.

Diagnosed in 1999 with high risk HPV types of the vaginal cuff and the vulva. Two LEEP's and one excision.

What is the Left Ventricular Assist Device?

Is it considered an artificial heart? When was the first Ventricular Assist Device invented?

No, it is not an artificial heart. It is used to buy time for the surgeons to correct a ventricular defect such as a myocardial infarct. When too much muscle is lost they can install this device through the femoral artery and into the aorta. It's a balloon that inflates while the ventricle is filled from the left atrium. This causes back pressure to build stretching the muscle a little more than it would have and this improves the force of the ventricular contraction. This is Starling's law in action. The balloon deflates allowing the blood to circulate. The cardiothoracic surgeons use this device only rarely and it's always a judgment call. There are inherent dangers in using the LVAD and only a specialist is qualified to make that call. It could make the situation worse so they tend to be cautious in it's use.
I've seen LVAD's since the eighties but you might find evidence of it's use as far back as the 60's. The technology has been around ever since extracorporeal circulation pumps have been in use. It's not a big leap from ECC to LVAD technologically.
Hope this helps.

What is cervix dysplasia and does sleeping around a lot cause it?

I'm wondering because a girl on law and order was said to have this and they concluded that she was promiscuous. I heard it was a growth of the cervix or something. What would there be a growth if you are sleeping around a lot?
This is a serious question. If a doctor is here please answer.

Cervical dyplasia is a change in the cells in the cervix The more cells that look abnormal, the more severe the case is. A severe case can become cervical cancer if it not treated.

No one really knows what causes cervical dysplasia. Sleeping around does *not* cause it, at least not by itself However, it is true that women who have multiple partners are at greater risk. Also, a very high percentage of women with cervical dysplasia also have HPV infections, which is the cause of genital warts. HPV is also related to multiple partners.

I hope this helps. See the Source for more info.  (+ info)

Has anyone out there had an esophagectomy because of high grade dysplasia and how is quality of life after it?

My friend is supposed to have an esophagectomy minimally invasive surgery. He has high grade dysplasia Barrett's esophagus with precancerous cells. Does anyone know what life after an esophagectomy is like? Does it drastically change your life style?

Yes, it does drastically change the quality of life.
Patients who have had the esophagus removed can no longer take food or liquid by mouth and even have to spit out saliva. They are stuck with a feeding tube placed through the stomach wall and accessed on the outside of the body.
I know I'd be miserable not being able to eat or drink (though I'd be able to enjoy stuff if I spit it out).
Most social situations surround food and drink. It can be very disheartening to go without the goodies everyone else can have.
What's worse? Having esophageal cancer.  (+ info)

will having sex make my cervical dysplasia develop into cancer faster?

About 2 weeks ago i was told that i have moderate cervical dysplasia. Me and my partner have still been having sex and today i noticed some unusual spotting and still am 4 hours later. I am on the pill and know that it is not my period. I'm worried that having sex is making things worse. Is this possible or is it ok to keep having sex?

it wont make it worse, but i had this same problem. its just the irritation on those cells that have become abnormal that cause the spotting. i had moderate and severe cells which i had removed by the LEEP procedure earlier this year, and once the healing was done i stopped spotting after sex. having sex itself wont make it develop quicker, its just the spreading of the bad cells and the irritation your cervix is enduring. i know spotting after sex should never be 'normal' but speaking from experience in this situation, its prone to happening. dont worry until your doctor gives you a reason to worry.  (+ info)

Is the a link between super ventricular tachicardia and an enlarged heart?

I was diagnosed with svt over 5 years ago, and have recently been experiencing breathlessness and fatigue. I went for tests and they have found me to be border line for an enlarged heart and i will be soon undergoing an ecg aswell as other tests. Obviously I am worried and was wondering if anyone has any information on this, or if the two are linked.

What is the procedure for inserting a ventricular shunt in an adult?

I may have hydrocephalus and have been trying to find out about the treatment but have not been able to find a comprehensive description of the procedure.

they open you up, drill a hole into the skull and stick the catheter in. It really is a simple surgery. It only takes about 45 minutes.  (+ info)

Sharp stabbing pain with a left ventricular shunt?

I've had a left ventricular shunt since I was approximately 3 months old due to hydrocephalus. I just felt a stabbing pain on the back left side of my head near my neck, aaaand well, I'm slightly worried lol what could it be?

There are a number of possibilities for what could be causing this such as a pinched nerve in the neck area or a problem with one of the disks in your neck close to the shunt (both examples only).

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.  (+ info)
