Birth injuries?
Does anyone know what the percentage of injuries at birth are? Are they common?
----------
Less than 1% of babies are injured at birth. Here are some stats on the US: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/b/birth_injury/stats.htm.
And if you have non-complicated vaginal birth then your chances are way lower than the average. (

Are there any resources for adults to find out if their doctor may be at fault for injuries occurring at birth
I have cerebral palsy...since birth. Its quite mild. I want to know how exactly I got it. My mother says the doctor did all he could. Shes not exactly up front about how she went into early labor. She's rather hostile with info and I'd just like to know. I'm not angry or anything. Are there any resources for adults to get info on injuries that occured during their birth?
----------
I think it is very hard to figure out what causes cerebral palsy most of the time. Even if there was a problem with your birth, it does not mean that it caused your cerebral palsy. I'm sorry your mom is not being cooperative. It may be possible to have someone review the medical records from your birth, but you might need your mother's permission for that (I don't know). It would probably be simpler if you could just convince her to tell you what happened (if anything). You might start by telling her the purpose of wanting to know, and that you don't want to sue the doctor (it's too late for that anyway), and that you are not angry at her. You might also just ask her why it is such a difficult topic for her. Maybe she has been feeling guilty all these years (and maybe she does not need to.) Good luck! (

I need to know about birth injuries of the brain.?
Is there a doctor in the house who can tell me whether or not a child being removed from her Mother with forceps because the Mother could not push the infant out on her own could possibly cause a birth injury of the brain and cause her to be devolopmentally diabled her whole life? She is 60 years old but this disablity makes her seem more like an early teen. I would also like to state that I too was born using forceps as was my sister with no apparent problems. Thanks so much.

This procedure was done on a normal basis some time ago. Normally there is no cognitive damage done as long as procedure is done correctly, that is not to say the possibility is inseparable.
Most cognitive disabilities during delivery are due to neo-Natal asphyxia, deprivation of oxygen due to complications of strangulation from the umbilical cord, breach birth, etc. (

Is there anywhere on the net that I can find stats on injuries sustained to an infant during birth ?
Exclude brain stem and cord injuries and lack of oxygen

Yes go to www.nih.gov and do a search for injuries sustained to infants during birth. I guarantee the NIH site will have it. (

Will smoking weed have harmful effects while I'm on birth control?
I just started taking the pill yesterday and I smoke weed pretty much every day during the week.
The doctor told me that smoking cigarettes while on the pill will increase my risks of cardiovascular injuries and what not.
I was just wondering if smoking weed while on the pill will have the same if not worse side effects as smoking cigarettes?
----------
Well, birth control isn't the best for you, but it's defiantly better for you and society than an unexpected/unwanted child. Weed won't keep your birth control from working, but inhaling combustion materials can add to any negative cardiovascular effects from the BC. I don't think it's much to worry about, but if it bothers you, get yourself a vaporizer, make some pot bakery, or use water pipes.
Smoking weed has nowhere close to the same negative effects as smoking tobacco, with or without the BC. (

Head injuries and birth control?
I have a friend who had a dirtbike accident and had a head injury. She had swelling and partial coma, short-term memory problems, etc. She is basically fine now except for the little memory issues. She was told that she has to be careful about what birth control she is on because of having a previous head injury (along with stuff like she wasn't supposed to drink for at least 2 years afterwards).
I was trying to research this but can't seem to find much information.
Does anyone know exactly why this would be and what might be the best/right birth control to go on for the situation?
----------
It may be due to an increased risk of blood clots. She would need to discuss this in detail with her doctor, as the doctors would be best equipped to tell her what she can and cannot take. (

Consult a personal injury attorney who can examine your medical records to see if you have a case. Some will take your case on a contingency basis.
Good luck to you and your beautiful daughter. (

Medicaid Birth Injuries, facial nerve damage from forceps?
When I was pushin my daughter out of my vagina. I didnt feel anything because the drugs they gave me made me really numb. She was crowning for about 5 hrs so they finally decided to use forceps. When she was born she had facial nerve damage from the doctor misusing the forcepts. I ended up pushing her out myself anyway because they said the forceps didnt help. When we took her to the pediatrician she pointed out that our daughter had facial nerve damage and we got a whole bunch of tests done to confirm that thats what it was. Well anyway I had pregnancy medicaid and my daughter has medicaid. Its been about 6 months now and they billed us! Isnt medicaid supposed to pay for this? And if not I shouldnt have to pay for the doctors mistake. How come when your water breaks and they make you sign all of those papers, they never say that damage can be done to your child by using forceps and they make you sign those papers for them to use those tools???
----------
You need to call your case worker regarding the bills (don't pay them!!), and you need to start a lawsuit for her birth injuries. (
