If you have Celiac disease does your immediate family need to be tested for it?

I was just diagnosed with Celiac disease. My doctor said it wasn't hereditary, but all the websites say that it is and my family should be tested. My doctor also said no further testing is needed, just watch my diet. I'm not so sure about this. Shouldn't I have an endoscopy to see if there is any damage?
----------

I'm thinking maybe you need to see another doctor for a second opinion. Often, doctors aren't entirely knowledgeable about all medical things and Celiac is one of those often misunderstood diseases. Talk to your insurance carrier or go online and find a doctor who treats patients with Celiac and see them. Your insurance will pay for a second opinion, you just need to see what the parameters are.
Celiac is genetic, and lots of family members may or may not have it. Diet may be the thing that works for you, for some patients other things are necessary.
Talk to someone who sees this disease all the time, and you'll get better answers and you'll feel more comfortable.

Tax deductions for gluten free food for people with celiac disease?

My wife and 3 children have celiac disease. Can we claim a deduction for having to buy gluten free food? We have not kept receipts. Is there an estimated deduction for this?
----------

Where is it that you live... In Canada, we can claim a portion of the food costs related to celiac. We must keep all receipts of our food. The government allows us to claim the difference between the cost of a regular item and the cost of a gluten free item.. there is a tax form on the government website to print out and take it to the doctor to sign and then submit with taxes..
hope that answered your question  (+ info)

Does anyone have information on celiac disease?

My son is having some test ran to see if he has celiac disease. I have been searching the internet to find information but still need more. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you in advance.
----------

Celiac DIsease is an autoimmune disease affecting 1 in 133 ppl. The only treatment is the gluten free diet because Celiac means the body cannot digest gluten, therefore leading to a whole MESS Of health problems including stomach issues, dental problems, infertility, neuropathies, and secondary autoimmune diseases.
Celiac is also hereditay and genetic so if he is found to have it, its advised both parents and all sibligns be tested.
Testing should be done by blood work and/or endoscopy with biopsy. (specific testing info can be foudn at www.csaceliacs.org)

Getting into the navy with celiac disease but being in perfect health?

My brother just went into the navy as a nuclear engineer, now i scored the same on the practice asvab as him and just recently sent my medical records to meps, now i have confirmed celiac disease but my tests show that i am healthy and pretty much in perfect health. Will i be allowed into the navy considering i would be going for a high ranking job?
----------

Although the reference I found doesn't specifically mention celiac disease, it does say that intestinal malabsorption problems are disqualifying. At this point, all you can do is apply if they don't DQ you off the records alone and apply for a medical waiver if they let you.  (+ info)

Does government have funds for people with Celiac disease?

I was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease. Does the government have funds for college, or help with the cost of food. (As it can be quite expensive and time consuming..) Any other tips you can give me would be appreciated as well, as I am still learning as much as I can. Thank you~
Glad your bro is so lucky..not everyone has the disease at the same severity..but you probably didnt know that. I was looking for a helpful answer not a bored person looking for someone on yahoo to fight with. Thanks anyway. :)
