will a Colonic help me tighten my midsection?

I'm trying to lose the last 15 or so pounds and I've been working out and dieting for a while but my midsection isn't where I want it to be. I read that cleansing your colon can help you lose up to 15 pounds and shave about an inch off your stomach.

Is this true? Would a colonic help me with my weight loss goals?

Yes. It is very good for you. Make sure where you have it done that they know what they are doing. Don't do kit from the store. Get it done professionally. Good luck and God bless you always.  (+ info)

How were these diseases prevented or cured in the 1600 to early 1700s?

How were some of these diseases dealt with in the 1600s? If there was no cure or anything to prevent the diseases to happen can you explain why and what resulted in these situations? Thanks!

Inoculation was sometimes used to prevent smallpox but basically either you lived or you died. Most survived chickenpox & measles but there were those who died or were left scarred or with damage to the vision or nervous system. Malaria was a disease of the tropics and is found in parts of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America, Hispaniola, and Oceania. Mostly people died.

The 1600s were in the 17th century & the 1700s were in the 18th century. Do some online research.  (+ info)

What are some diseases similar to tuberculosis and could be mistaken as Tuberculosis?

So I am researching tuberculosis, and I have to answer the question:

If it isn't your exact disease, what else could it be?

So essentially I have to find diseases with the same signs and symptoms, ones that may act in the same way or cause your body to look the same way as tuberculosis.

I then have to talk about how they are similar and why. Any help would be great. Thanks.

So other mycobacterium would look the same on stains:
Mycobacterium bovis
Mycobacterium kansasii
and other mycobacteria

Other bacteria can cause similar lung disease (but look different on stain and culture):
Rhodococcus equii
and other bacteria

Has anyone tried colonic cleansing as a way to decrease belly size?

I've heard so much about colonic cleansing being used to decrease the size of a person's belly. I am losing weight by walking three miles, four times a week, but I can't seem to lose this annoying pooch. Any brand names that work, from those that have tried and succeeded?
I am 48 years old, have three kids, 5'6 and 145 lbs. Not obese, by any stretch of the imagination, but just can't seem to get rid of this stomach. My waist is nice and thin and the rest of me looks pretty good. I just can't stand this anymore!

While it is possible to loose weight from the procedure (3-15lbd depending on how congested you are), this is not the main goal. The main goal of the procedure is to remove parasites from the colon.

Here's a good website that will give you all the answers you need to know about the procedure: http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.jsp?requestURI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/colonic_irrigation.jsp

Colonic irrigation is also known as hydrotherapy of the colon, high colonic, entero-lavage, or simply colonic. It is the process of cleansing the colon by passing several gallons of water through it with the use of special equipment. It is similar to an enema but treats the whole colon, not just the lower bowel. This has the effect of flushing out impacted fecal matter, toxins, mucous, and even parasites, that often build up over the passage of time. It is a procedure that should only be undertaken by a qualified practitioner.

Anyone suffering from gas, bloating, cramping pains, acne and other skin complaints, arthritis, and a list of bowel complaints such as diverticulitis and irritable bowel etc., may benefit from colonic irrigation. In particular, cancer patients are often advised to undertake a course of colonic irrigation sessions as an essential part of their treatment. When a biological cancer therapy begins to enable the body to breakdown a cancerous mass, it is essential that speedy and effective elimination of the resulting toxins is achieved.

Colon and bowel cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and alternative practitioners insist that it can be prevented by efficient hygiene procedures. Providing that care is taken to replace the natural organisms that flourish in the bowel, many health benefits can be expected from colonic irrigation. In general, alternative practitioners maintain that an ill-functioning bowel is the source of all disease, and therefore keeping it clean will be an effective protection against this.

Removing large amounts of toxic matter relieves the patient and can lead to the alleviation of symptoms such as arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, and a host of other illnesses. Properly executed, colonic irrigation can help restore normal peristaltic action to a sluggish bowel, thus reducing the need for more hydrotherapy treatments over time. In addition, removing the layer of fecal matter which coats the intestines in many individuals allows improved assimilation of the nutrients from foods and can alleviate symptoms of vitamin and other nutrient deficiencies. Many alternative health practitioners consider some form of hydrotherapy for the bowel to be essential in the treatment of degenerative diseases.

As far as loosing your "pooch", the quickest way is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohal, and sodas.

Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up.

In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight)

Practice portion control. Yes, you'll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won't have that feeling anymore.

Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.)

Go exercise for at least an hour a day, incorporating weight training. Weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition.

In my personal opinion, if you incorporate a balanced diet, and exercise program, colonics will help to detoxify your body and give you a boost.

Good luck to you!  (+ info)

What kinds of diseases can you get from using a public restroom?

I've always heard that you can catch diseases from sitting on public toilets but no one has ever told me what kind you can get.
So I'm curious what kind of diseases have people gotten from using public restrooms?

You'd have a better chance of being hit by lightning. It's almost impossible to catch any kind of disease from a toilet, for the following reasons:
1. Infections don't live long outside the body...they need a host. Toilet seats are bad hosts.
2. They need warm wet areas to live.
3. Most infections enter the body through breaks in the skin or openings...
4. Even though your anus is an opening the intestines is a hostile enviroment for infection
5. You don't sit there long enough

You CAN get skin infections...I got one. They're not deadly, just annoying.  (+ info)

What would be the most important functional food properties in a lemon meringue pie?

Functional food properties are gelatinisation, coagulation etc.
More specific food properties would be great. Examples are caramelisation, crystallisation...

There are probably 2 here. Gelatinisation for the lemon part, and the browning of the meringue is caramalising.
Not sure if whipping of the egg white to make the meringue is a functional food property, it probably is?  (+ info)

What different types of heart diseases do they have?

I'm 23 & I saw a heart doctor yesterday, & so far, he told me that it doesn't look like I have heart disease from the EKG & ultrasound, but he has to run a stress test on a treadmill to see how I handle it. I get chest pains very easily simply just from walking the 1st 2 minutes. I know I'm overweight & I'm trying to lose it. But how can I if every time I try to exercise, I get chest pains? My Dr. said I'm too young for heart disease, & my PCP told me my cholesterol is a little high but not enough to be put on medication.

What kinds of heart diseases do they have? I hope I don't have it, & I'm trying to do my best to prevent it.

I have angina and wear a nitro patch..Ask about daily aspirin..

What diseases that can be transmitted from animals to human and vice versa?

Tell me what diseases do you know that came from animals and transmitted to us. And also what ways we can prevent it.

There are hundreds, way too many to list here! You are referring to zoonoses, the term for a disease that can be passed from animals to humans and vice versa. Zoonoses can be parasitical, fungal, bacterial, viral, and just plain "other". They can be transmitted by cows, cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and even fish.

Read about common zoonoses at
http://www.anapsid.org/chomeltables.html (about pets!)

If you have access to a library, this book http://www.amazon.ca/Zoonoses-Communicable-Diseases-Common-Animal/dp/927511580X is a good source for your Question.

If you have a particular pet you are concerned about, you may want to search [pet] zoonoses.  (+ info)
