Who is best psychiatrist in Vancouver, BC for childhood trauma and grief counciling?

I'm looking for a psychiatrist that specializes in overcoming suppressed trauma from childhood loss. Also it would be a big plus if someone can recommend a specialist who focuses on helping one out of cults. My friend is escaping into a cult in order to suppress childhood grief.

Thank you for all of your help.

How long do i need to recover from a head trauma before i can begin exercising again?

I suffered a head trauma by hitting my head on the floor while i was dizzy and collapsed on the floor yesterday morning and stitches was needed to treat my open wound on the upper-back of my head...How long do i need to recover from my head injury before i can begin exercising again?

This is something that you're going to need and talk to your doctor about. It is something that you're not going to be able to get a concise answer. I believe it would probably be at least 4-5 days for physical activity, but check with your doctor to be sure.  (+ info)

Is it possible to regain a gag reflex after it has been lost due to brain trauma?

My father has had brain trauma and in the process of a VERY SLOW recovery. In passing a few doctors/nurses have said that he may never be able to eat due to a "lost gag" reflex. Does it ever return?
----------

that depends on the severity of the injury. On occasion, speech therapists can re-train a person in swallowing safely, but without a gag reflex, it's very iffy.  (+ info)

How do I break the cycle of trauma and self-abuse?

I have been traumatized many times in my life.

As a 22-year-old adult, I am experiencing very horrific cycles of trauma.

I cannot avoid the self-loathing. I am abusing substances and re-enacting my trauma.

I have seen a therapist off and on for 4 years. It helps greatly, but at $85/hr, I simply cannot afford her anymore.

Why does the human body allow itself to be knocked unconscious during blunt-force trauma?

What I mean is, is unconsciousness a protective measure by the body (eg, to limit the exposure to trauma), or is it an uncontrolled reaction to injury? Does the body fight unconsciousness, as it means you are left exposed?

Also, are unconsciousness (through trauma) and fainting (eg, from shock or fear) the same thing? What exactly is fainting? Thanks.

That's lack of blood to the brain or a defense mechanism to stop us from sensing too much trauma. The mind just cuts out. Sort of a safey valve.

Even in boxing the art is to knock the head to stop blood flow to the brain.

Fainitng is lack of blood to the brain. Similar thing really.  (+ info)

I would like to get a holster for my trauma shears that can be attached to my beltless scrub pants. So far all I have found are ones that have loops for belts. Thanks in advance.

Can you end up mute from all the trauma in a motorcycle accident?

I am writing this book, and a boy gets into a motorcyle accident. He gets two cracked ribs and a broken arm, but is it possible for him to so much trauma that he can not speak? Or maybe during the accident he somehow got his voicebox ruined. Which is more likely and how?
The boy wont remain mute forever. It just a temprary thing.
----------

Two cracked ribs and a broken arm just wouldn't make muteness believable to me. Now if his girlfriend fell off the back and died, maybe. If, when he crashed, his larynx was cracked, yeah (it could have hit the handlebars), or a tree limb hit it.

Don't back yourself into a corner. What are you going to do with a mute character? How will he present himself?

Best of luck and much inspiration to you!  (+ info)

What is the treatment for Cervix inflammation caused by trauma?

After a colposcopy I was diagnosed cervicovaginitis and inflammatory process type II. The pap smear showed no infection (bacterial or fungal) and I suspect that this comes from uterine trauma caused by a gynecologist removing membranes 2 weeks before my baby was due, because he wanted to go on a trip! Can someone tell me if this could be the cause and what could be the treatment??
----------

For cervicitis they can give antibiotics but if it continues enough (this happened to me) they can take and freeze off the old skin on the cervix so that new skin grows. When new skin grows it is supposed to help keep cervicitis from being a problem in the future. I found the procedure to be helpful.
