What is the prognosis for renal artery stenosis?

My future mother in law was just told that she had a narrowing artery in her kidney. She's been having unexplained high blood pressure and panic attacks which prompted her to go to the doctor for tests, and found this out. They told her that she would need some stenting done. What is the prognosis for this? She is in her mid 40's and overall in good health, never been a smoker.
I already know *about* the condition, but I can't seem to find any information about a prognosis...which is what I'm asking about for any one who may have familiarity on the subject.

See Merck Medical manuals online, on this subject:

and try a search at the Natl Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, both for answers and experts

Help on Palpitations and pulmonary stenosis?

Im 40 and for several weeks have had increased heart palpitations.
I am also having dizzy spells/extreme tiredness feeling hot and achy and slightly swollen ankles.
I have diagnosed moderate pulmonary stenosis, a heart murmur and previous cardiac surgery to repair a hole to the heart.
I am overweight and a smoker (I know bad, bad, bad!) but I would like to hear from others who may have similar conditions to me (there must be SOMEONE!) especially if you are older and have gone on to have further heart surgery I am interested to know about successful pulmonary surgery because I think my cardiologist is going to be considering me for an operation.

I do not have any experience similar to yours but I am familiar with the heart through my pre med studies. Your new symptoms sound similar to atherosclerosis and without an operation you would only be causing further damage. All I can say is to express your feelings of anxiety with your doctor and find out how much surgical experience he has. Besides that, with heart conditions, a second opinion is advisable. Beyond that there is nothing more you can do but trust your doctor, who by the way had to go through twelve years of college to get where he is today, and think positively about your situation. Many people, including myself, believe that your thoughts can carry you far and thinking positively throughout this situation and throughout life will have immense health benefits. Good Luck!!!!!  (+ info)

What medications can I take to treat pain radiculopathy in both arms from cervical stenosis?

I'd like to have some suggestions when I see the neurosurgeon next week. I'm already on Percocet and Valium, but they really do not seem to affect the pain in the arms and hands.

I am positive that the Neurosurgeon is aware of what drugs to give you, so wait until you see them. Best of Luck  (+ info)

What is the most discrete way to buy condoms?

I have never bought any before other than at gas stations. I was wondering if it would be better to buy them at a walgreens or a walmart. the self checkouts at our wal-mart says everything you swipe so i don't think i would do the self checkout. Trying to gather some tips to make the necessity of buying condoms less embarrassing.

Just go into a pharmacy, pick up a box, maybe buy some other things while you're there to make it seem like you're not only there for condoms, and just pay for it!

Also, I don't see the big deal. I mean at least you're being responsible and actually buying condoms.

No one should really care, they're probably thinking wow I wish I was as lucky as this guy!

But yea, if you're still shy and what not, it would be best to buy them while going to buy other things. Maybe stocking up would be good too, would keep you from going back so often.  (+ info)

How do you cope with spinal stenosis pain?

Epidural shots do not help, and so far various pain pills do not help either.

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal which holds your spinal cord. As far as therapy goes there is little to offer except bending (flexion) exercises and postural advice. If the epidurals and medication have not helped (this is what the pain clinics would offer) you may be a candidate for surgery. I would not waste my time and money on TeNS, acupucture or manipulation, they won't help.
The surgury is big to to honist and involves reaming or clearing out your spinal canal. I have seen mixed results for this. You should get advice from a Neurosurgeon.  (+ info)

How do I go about getting disability status due to spinal stenosis?

How do I get disability status? Do I go to my doctor and ask about this?

You must have many doctors reports and xrays, mris, etc. You must be able to show it is keeping you from employment and the drugs, shots, and surgeries you have had. You should use a service like Allsup to get it going, they do all the reports and doctor information for you.  (+ info)
