Do I need a TBE (tick borne encephalitis) Jab if I am going to Germany and Austria?

I am going to Germany and Austria this October and am going to be working with animals and doing a bit of Gardening. I have read on websites that TBE is active in these countries. Will I need a Vaccination?

As far as I can see, they only recommend that you have the tetanus vaccine (if it's been more than 10 years since you had it at school I think.)  (+ info)

Which is classified as a chronic, tick borne rickettsial disease?

A) Q fever
B) Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
C) Lyme Disease
D) epidemic typhus

I am sorry that the previous medical student's answer sucked. It's not correct. The two answer choices that are Rickettsial diseases are epidemic typhus (R. prowazekii) and RMSF (R. rickettsii). Of these two, RMSF is a chronic condition, while typhus is an acute condition.

Lyme disease (B. burgdorferi) is also a tick-borne infection, but is caused by a Borrelial infection, not a rickettsial one.  (+ info)

I was told that my dog Mack has a tick borne disease, ampimosis (misspelled?) what is it?

It is a tick borne disease...My vet left a message on my machine. I will call him tomorrow but it will drive me crazy until then.

Where are you from?In the U.S.,the most common tick-borne diseases in dogs are Erlichiosis and Babesiosis.Erlichiosis is treatable with antibiotics, but Babesiosis is much more serious and difficult to treat, and there have been cases of humans catching it.I think it is probably the Erlichiosis.I hope you and your dog will be OK.  (+ info)

Tick-borne Encephilitis?

I arrived in Germany on Wednesday, October 7 and since then have received about 200 red marks primarily along my exposed flesh--hands, arms and now most concentrated on my face. I am staying with friends on a farm in the Baden-W├╝rttemburg region. The pharmacist was certain that these are merely the results of an allergic reaction to some unbeknownst force. However, when I sleep at night bugs buzz about my head and I awake in the morning with more and more marks along only my exposed flesh. Help, please. Are there any sure signs of a tick-borne illness and can flies, bugs or mosquitos carry the same virus?

Feel free to answer in German, too.

Mosquitoes carry the EEE or Eastern Equine Equestrian not ticks. Ticks carry Rocky Mountain Spotted fever but, don't fly. Where are you sleeping, in the barn, why all the pests hasn't anyone there heard of house spray to get rid of these.
The bites if only red spots could be from any insect, it makes my skin crawl to think about it. The on;y way to cure this is to remove oneself from this unhealthy environment.  (+ info)

Some info on tick borne illnesses?

My sister has been sick for 8 years. Some doctors say Lyme, Some say no. She is going to the Mayo Clinic next month. Until then...what are some other similar illnesses that can cause the same symptoms but that are not autoimmune? (no Lupus or RA)
I wanted to know what else it could be, besides Lyme.

Most are not Long term diseases. however,Lyme disease is one of the more complex of tick borne illneses.
It starts out with a typical rash and usually after a month its gone then a bit more complex symptoms appear ranging from neurologic like facial paralysis and cardiac problems as well as long term joint problems.treatment is actually very simple unless complications set in.Usually antibiotics do the trick.  (+ info)
