How do you enhance your illness?

I really want to skip at least 2nd/3rd period tomorrow. I've already been kind of sick with a sore throat, lots of nasal stuff, stomach, etc. How do I exaggerate the illness I already have?
----------

That's kind of funny, but I remember when I just didn't want to go to school. When I was little I would start touching everything and then raising my hand to my face and lips (to let germs come in).

You can try that, or go outside (if you're in the area where it's freezing right now).  (+ info)

Is there a recognized mental illness where a person avoid immediate pain, no matter how much the future cost?

My brother seems to make decisions based on short-term impacts. Regardless of the long-term impacts of avoiding the short-term pain, he seems to always choose to respond to whatever problem is closest. Is there a recognized mental illness where people almost always choose avoidance of the near term, regardless of the long term consequences?

Can a baby be at risk of getting a disease or illness when exposed to kittens?

We recently got a 6 week old kitten. However, we have an 11 month old baby. My wife needed to know if the baby can get any type of illness or disease if he plays with the kitty. Serious answers only.
----------

All I know is of-

Toxoplasmosis is an infection that can threaten the health of an unborn child. It is caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The parasite multiplies in the intestine of cats and is shed in cat feces, mainly into litter boxes and garden soil. You can get the parasite by handling cat litter or soil where there is cat feces. You can also get the parasite from eating undercooked meat (such as rare beef) from animals infected with the parasite.

But thats when a baby is in the womb.... ASk your pediatrician! they shoul dknow better  (+ info)

Is there a mental illness or disorder in which people make themselves sick for attention?

I thought it was Munchausen syndrome but WebMD describes Munchausen syndrome as a mental illness in which a person repeatedly acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when he or she is not really sick.

Is there a mental illness or disorder in which a person actually makes themselves ill for attention?
What I mean to say is if munchausen syndrome is a disorder in which people just PRETEND to be ill(according to webmd) then is there a form of mental illness or a disorder in which a person actually makes themselves ill for attention?
----------

symptoms are either self-induced or falsified with munchausen syndrome

EDIT: Hypochondriacs don't make themselves sick, they themselves worry that they are ill.  (+ info)

What are some Chicago support groups, organizations and resources on the mental illness, schizophrenia?

Hello, everyone.

I am doing a project on paranoid schizophrenia for my psychology class. I am researching support groups, organizations and other resources for paranoid schizophrenia. If you can list out any organizations, their websites, or any doctors dealing with this mental illness, please post a response!

Thank you.

Here's a good starting point... it should help you to find other resources as well:

After how many years did yu start accepitng that you have amental illness?

Do you wish you should have dont that earlier? Does that make any difference in helping with your illness?
----------

Well, I have had various mental problems since I can remember. When I was a very small child, I was unsure of what was really wrong. I had a great amount of anxiety attacks but, at the time I had no clue that is what they were. It was very scary for me. I even thought sometimes that I was dying.
I was too embarrassed to tell my parents what was going on so, I suffered for many years following that. I think my parents knew that not everything was normal when I was a teenager but, by then they were too embarrassed to admit it.
I didn't go out and have a good time like a normal teenager. I stayed locked in my room due to my social anxiety. I was home schooled so, I got excellent grades because I felt like it was the only thing I could be successful at. I didn't go to college though or even get a job because I was too scared to. Everyone else just deemed me as being lazy and not motivated. When it was far from the truth!
It wasn't until I moved out, got married, and started having my own children when I decided that I really did need help. I had my husband to help support me and I didn't want my children to see me as a mental mess.
Yes, I do wish that my parents had stepped in and intervened when I was younger. My life could have been so much better. Now I just remind myself to be thankful that I got help when I did, instead of living the rest of my life in misery.
Also, I definitely think you need to admit that you have a mental illness before you can progress. Understanding everything is the key to fixing it.
Good luck!  (+ info)

How do you know if you are genetically predisposed to a mental illness like schizophrenia?

I am curious, because I read that many different things can cause the illness to come out, such as environment, drugs, etc.
----------

It's true that schizophrenia has both genetic and environmental factors. Unfortunately I don't think there's a better way to estimate genetic predisposition than to make a family tree, note any mental illness on it, and examine your position on the tree relative to the mental illness.  (+ info)

How can you tell if an illness is viral or bacterial?

My daughter is terribly ill, and I would like to know if her illness is viral or bacterial.

Symptoms: General Malaise
Acute Yellowish/greenish mucal dishcarge from nose
Fever
Productive Cough
Headaches
Sore throat
Loss of appetite

Thanks for any help you can give.
----------

The start of a sore throat leads to much worse later on such as the flu, bronchitis, etc...

I have found this website that cures sore throats. I know because I just had one horribly painful sore throat 3 days ago and this worked so great I have to recommend it to everyone.

I read many pages of this site and through it developed a tea to cure sore throats and kill harmful bacteria and viruses.

This is my tea:
1 cup boiling hot water
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (very important!)
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbp honey
1/2 lemon, squeezed
add a herbal tea bag for taste (Traditional Medicinals Tea is excellent)

I drank several cups throughout the day. I immediately noticed the difference with the first cup, but to kill the bacteria I continued making the tea on and off all day.

Today is day two and my sinuses are clear, the pain in my throat is gone and I feel 100 percent better.  (+ info)

What is the occupation name of a person who works in a mental illness hospital?

For a school report, I need to write a paper on what I want to be when I grow up. I don't really know the technical term though. I want to work in a mental illness hospital. I want to be like a nurse for the mentally sick people. Like give them their medication and council them.
Anyone know the technical term?
Thanks :)

A Psych. nurse is a nurse that specializes in the field of Psychiatry.
A social worker and psychologist can be therapists and help people look at their problems. A psychiatrist can prescribe psychotropic medications. A mental health worker is someone that works with people that have psychological problems. Good Luck on your report.  (+ info)
