Iv got epididymitis in my left testical 16yrs after i had it in my right testis, the problem is i dont know anyone else whos had it or even heard of it anyone here experienced this problem? if so how do you cope? what can i do to stop it returning?
I am so sorry you are suffering with this. As a matter of fact, my brother-in-law has had it 3 times over a twenty year period. And I am sure you would agree that that is 3 times too many!
Below are two great on line resources for you to check out. They list a number of causes starting with STD (sexually transmitted diseases) bladder infections, medication side effects, (prescribed, over the counter or illegal ones) or torsion problems, (literally the tube twisting on its own due to strenuous exercise, obesity, or underlying illness!)
My brother in law literally lived with Ice packs for a couple of weeks as he couldn't walk with it. If you want to try ice, make sure not to keep it on for more than 20 minutes and the 2 best ice packs are a bag container of frozen peas. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but both my sons are athletes and they are easy to mold to whatever body part is in pain. The second is using a rubber latex glove filled with crushed ice. It is very important that you put a cloth between you and the ice pack.
If you also are in a monogamous relationship, it would not hurt for both you and your partner to be checked out as it is very common for lovers to transmit infections, and (NOT necessarily only sexual infections) back and forth.
Lastly, whenever you have pain, it is critical that you have it handled immediately. A twisted spermatic cord is very dangerous and must be promptly attended to. Meaning do not pass go, do not collect $200, but get your butt and affected body parts to the emergency room!
I also think it is critical that your previous doctor and your current doctor give you a complete understanding of what they felt the cause was, what tests did they base their diagnosis on, and what advice they can give you to protect yourself. Sometimes when we are in great pain, or are overwhelmed, it is hard to focus on the answers. Bring a friend you trust who can remain objective to take notes on the explanations because that will be your best arsenal in not have a third event.
Best of luck to you and if you have guy friends you feel comfortable talking with, ask them if they have ever experienced this. Who knows, they may be a font of information! (+ info
I have had epididymitis for a long time now. Around a year or so. The pain was never that bad until a couple of times when it really hurt. I went to a urologist to get it checked out. He gave me a prescription of Diclofenac and Ciprofloxacn. I've been taking these for about a week and a half and I am still getting minor pains from the epididymitis and the infected testical just feels uncomfotable a lot of the time when I'm just chillin. Also I have gotten a scrotal ultrasound to make sure there wasn't any tumors and it came out fine. My question is how long does it take to cure this and does it require surgery if it doesn't go away with antibiotics??? Thanks!
Epididymitis is a condition in which the epididymis becomes inflamed. This condition may be mildly to very painful. Antibiotics may be needed to control just a component of infection.
If you are not feeling better with antibiotics then ask your doctor about "cord block" procedure. In this process you will be given an injection into the nerve that traces along the epididymis. This single injection consists of several medications including a steroid, pain killers, and a high dose of an anti-inflammatory. This treatment usually quells the pain for 2-3 months in ideal conditions while the fortunate ones in rare occasions are never bothered again. This procedure would of course have to be repeated when necessary, until the problem goes away completely, or until the routine is simply too bothersome. In that case, a patient may then decide to have the epididymis completely removed, thus rendering all pain obsolete.
i hope this answers your query and please award the points also (+ info
What will the Doctor do if Antibiotics don't cure my Epididymitis?
Yesterday my doctor put me on Antibiotics for having an infection in my epididymis. It is a disease known as Epididymitis. Hopefully the Antibiotics will work and get rid of the infection, but what will happen if it doesnt? What will the doctor do?
What can be done about Epididymitis caused by Prostatitis?
I am a 26 year old male, and for the last 18 months I've had pain in my testicle (usually the right one) accompanniedby short-term swelling in my epididymis, and some urine pain every 6 weeks or so. The major pain only lasts maybe an hour or so, and then for another day or two it might be sensitive. Sometimes it is worse than others. I should point out that I probably urinate more than most people, even when I'm feeling fine. And again, sometimes more than other times. BUT- its not like I feel I need to go, and not much comes out. I pee when my bladder is full.
I've seen a few doctors, and most didn't seem overly concerned about whatever it was, and the last Dr. believed that I had Prostatitis that was triggering flare-ups of Epididymitis every once in a while. He seemed to make the most sense and the symptoms are pretty dead- on.
He recommended I try antibiotics for 6 weeks, but it sounds like my symptoms could/would probably come back anyway.
Is there anything that I can do?
Treatment options include: antibiotics, elevation of the scrotum, cold compresses applied regularly to the scrotum, hospitalisation in severe cases, check-ups to ensure the infection has cleared up. Pain is frequently so severe as to require opiate analgesics such as hydrocodone. If traditional treatment options have been exhausted, then a procedure called a cord block would be done. This consists of an injection into the nerve that traces along the epiditymis. The injection is a compound of several medications including a steroid, pain killers, and a high dosa of an anti-inflammatory. This treatment usually quells the pain for 2-3 months in ideal conditions. Some patients may only experience an even shorter duration of 2-3 days, while the fortunate ones in rare occasions are never bothered again. This procedure would of course have to be repeated when necessary, until the problem goes away completely, or until the routine is simply too bothersome. In that case, a patient may then decide to have the epididymis completely removed, thus rendering all pain obsolete. In the case of a scrotal abscess, this may have to be done long before other treatment options are considered. (+ info
Epididymitis and how long it takes to recover?
My husband has Epididymitis and has for 3 weeks now, His left testicle is still swollen and he cant walk around for long periods without it hurting him,How long does it take for swelling to go down and for him to be able to resume normal activities like work and swimming.
Depends on the cause of the inflammation.
Has he had a recent vasectomy?
Has he been seen by a doctor?
This can get serious, so don't just wait around for it to resolve. (+ info
My boyfriend got epididymitis and thinks I have an STD that caused it?
So me and my boyfriend fooled around. I'm the only girl he's fooled around with, and he's a virgin.
So we fooled around on Wednesday and he found out he had epididymitis on Saturday. So could the STD and the epididymitis showed up that fast?
I'm definitely getting tested.
yes, it is possible. For whatever reason, sometimes the STD in one person may not show up as soon as the other person. The most common cause is Chlamydia.
You should definitely get tested... in fact, i would venture to say that you should just take the treatment, just in case.
Keep in mind, Chlamydia is not the only thing that causes epididymitis, any bacteria can, but STD's seem to be the most common. (+ info
Is it normal to have Epididymitis at age 16, almost 17?
I'm still a virgin and this'll be the second time I've had Epididymitis and it's painful.
Is this normal?
Real answers please. -_-
Ohh and for those who don't know what Epididymitis is, it's inflammation of an area around a testicle.
I don't think its an age thing I got it on one side and two weeks later it went to the other side I was twenty at the time and its NOT an std so virginity has nothing to do with it. Generally its caused by an infection some where else in the body which clears up like a cold and for some strange reason it can cause epididymitis that's what the doc said and yah its painful good luck it will get better (+ info
How long should the pain from epididymitis last?
I started taking minocycline 100 mg 4-5 days ago and the pain is still there for the most part if not slightly subdued. When can I expect to start seeing some results if I am indeed going to?
Well not to sound rude but you have to make sure you are taking them properly. If you are still having pain after a week of taking the pills go back to the doctor and ask him. (+ info

Is there a relationship between epididymitis and low testosterone levels in men?
A friend of mine is concerned that he has lower levels of testosterone as a result of having had epididymitus several years ago? Is there any truth to this?
No, not at all!
In fact infection is the most common cause of epididymitis and is more present in sexually active men where Chlamydia trachomatis is responsible for two-thirds of cases, followed by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and E. coli (or other bacteria that cause urinary tract infection). (+ info
