what is a good way to start a paper on eye diseases?

I am doing my senior project paper on eye diseases and treatments, but the only problem is that I can't find a way to grab the reader's attention in the introduction paragraph. Any suggestions please?

out of the five sense, seeing seems to be our most valued senses. From the survey conducted by university of arizona, it shows that 80% are willing to be deaf, mute and unable to walk rather than being blind. (I MADE THIS PART UP BUT ITS KINDA TRUE..) this shows eye is one of the most mportant organ to us....thisis why i find eye disease is an interesting topic to explore. as it has a huge impact not only on me but our society..etc etc..  (+ info)

What are the eye diseases caused by lack of vitamins?

I recently took a vitamin supplement for sensitivity to brightness and it works. I am wondering what other eye diseases are caused by lack of vitamins?
----------

Vitamin deficiencies can be caused by the use of certain medications and poor diet. They increase the risk of the following eye diseases:
For some drugs like Tylenol, it may lead to cataract formation.
Steroid overuse may increase risk for macular degeneration as well as cataracts.
Poor diet may lead to blindness in children and vision loss such as macular degeneration and glaucoma in adults.  (+ info)

What can you eat to help your eyes and prevent eye diseases?

Lately my eyes have been hurting some. I think it is because I had a piece taken out of my contact. Well that started making me worry about my eyes. So I was wondering what could I eat or take to help my eyes or prevent them from diseases. Also I take Creatine when I work out. Will that hurt my eyes too?
----------

If your eyes have been hurting, I suggest you see an eye doctor for that. Anything that is good for the body is good for the eyes, especially leafy green veggies and anything with antioxidants in it. Keep in mind, though, that nothing you eat will improve your eyesight. I am not sure about the Creatine--I would ask your doctor about its effects and let your eye doctor know you are taking it.  (+ info)

Why do eye diseases mostly occur in people who wear strong glasses or corrections for many years?

eye diseases like macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and cataracts?
----------

A lot of those conditions are more prone to the elderly, sometimes people with high negative prescriptions (myopes) are more prone to retinal detachments because their eye is more in the shape of an egg than round like average, leaving their retina more prone to damage.  (+ info)

What are inoperable eye diseases that slowly cause blindness?

I'm writing a story in which the character is slowly going blind because of a disease in his eyes, but can't have surgery to fix it.

Or it doesn't even have to be blindness. Just something which causes him to have difficulty living the same life he used to because of the inability to see properly.

Glaucoma.

Macular degeneration.

Untreated syphilis.  (+ info)

What eye problems/diseases can i get prescription marijuana for?

I was recently diagnosed with keratoconus, and i'm wondering, if I should invest in a sack of weed because of this.
----------

I know that marijuana helps with glaucoma by keeping your eye pressure at bay (certainly did for me), but I don't know about keratoconus. Now, I'm all for smoking weed regardless of medical condition, hehe. But if this is the only reason you're going to do it, I would definitely research it a bit more or even talk to your doctor about it.  (+ info)
