If a male with gigantism were to pee on a pregnancy test, would it show up at pregnant?
Home pregnancy tests test for human growth hormone, and people who have gigantism have too much human growth hormone. So would it still work?

Are people who suffer from gigantism often mentally challenged?
Yesterday, I heard on television a story of a 2,52m giant, and they told he had mental limitations due to his disease.
Is this always (or most always) the case with people who suffer from gigantism?
----------
Here is an actual medical website we used in college:

This is pretty good description of the most common type of 'giant' although there are several conditions that lead to gigantism. There is nothing tied DIRECTLY to decreased IQ correlated to this condition, but there are well documented cases that physicians conclude was a result of the pituitary gland. Here is one way to think of it...the gigantism results from a problem with the pituitary gland in the brain, which is also in charge of releasing the hormones responsible for the development of the body during puberty etc., so its definitely sensible to think there would be a relation. Andre the Giant (wrestling, The Princess Bride) was a pretty smart guy. Hope this help! (

How has the endocrine system gone wrong in these conditions: Diabetes 1, Diabetes 2, Goiters, and Gigantism?
How has the endocrine system gone wrong in these conditions: Diabetes 1, Diabetes 2, Goiters, and Gigantism?
----------
i'm going to try and answer these as well as i can.
diabetes 1: pancreatic beta cell death due to autoimmune disease. the cells are responsible for producing insulin.
diabetes 2: insulin resistance and the cells do not respond to insulin and therefore sugar can't be taken up and utilised by the cells.
not sure about the goiter and gigantism... sorry (

What is the difference between some one with gigantism that is 7ft and over and a naturally tall person that?
height?
I heard some people are naturally tall. The tall chinese guy was told by his doctors that nothing is wrong with him and he is naturally tall.
----------
Technically, people with gigantism are naturally tall as well.
However, gigantism is typically caused by one of two things: an overproduction of growth hormone (a lack of sufficient growth hormone causes Extremely Short Stature - what people often incorrectly refer to as proportional dwarfism), or a mutation of NSD1.
I don't know that there is an actual height by which gigantism is judged, but rather, it is determined by standard deviatiations against the average. That is to say that as the average person grows taller, so does the marker for gigantism. A height of 7 ft. is certainly tall, but it isn't so unusually tall that it would be considered a giant.
Gigantism isn't the only trait causing excessive height, either. Marfan Syndrome also causes people to be very tall, although typically not as tall as gigantism. (

Do you agree with gigantism or pituitary tumor?
I keep coming back to gigantism, but really think tumor. Increase in Growth Hormone, decrease in Thyroid, cortisone and testerone.
Any thoughts?
----------
Gigantism can be caused by a tumor. It may increase growth hormone but not enough to have the symptoms associated with giantism. Hypo in other hormones can happen as the tumor damages other parts of the pituitary. If this is the case with your labs you should see a good pituitary endocrinologist. (

How did robert wadlow grow was it human growth hormone or Pituitary Gigantism or Acromegaly please?
please i want to know so badly
----------
Those are really all the same things, however, in his case it was the Pituitary producing too much growth hormone. Acromegaly usually occurs in middle age. (

Does acromegaly or gigantism lead to penile enlargement?
Acquired or congenital excess of growth hormone leads to enlargement of tissue. Does this mean that penis size is also augmented?
----------
mostly bones, not all types of tissue...
they don't have huge muscles, just large statures because of bone growth (

I have gigantism and I never stop growin, isnt growth based on genetics?
I always grow 3 inches ever since I was 8 years. Now Im 6'8 and I weigh 265 lbs caus of my big ass bones. Im now 14 and Im definitely trying out for basketball even though I suck because size matters after all such as dunking and trucking. But iam worried and I want to stop growing. Why is life like this? Short people want to be tall and tall people want to be short. Fat people want to be thin and thin people want to be fat. Life sucks.
----------
Gigantism or acromegaly is caused by a benign tumor pressing against the adrenal gland causing it to secrete growth hormones which results in unchecked growth. If your family has a history of being normal sized and you are the only one that is as tall as you are, I would certainly have it investigated medically. (

If a person with Gigantism starves themselves, will this make them shorter?
I'm not talking about after they're done growing, but when they're diagnosed. After being diagnosed and the person starves themselves, wouldn't this stunt their growth? I was watching a show about it and this question just won't leave my head..
I get that much, but other nutrients still apply to them, don't they?
