How long til you can have sex after being treated for gonorrhea?

My boyfriend was just treated for gonorrhea three days ago, when will it be okay for us to have sex without me getting the infection? Thanks.
----------

It can take a week. After that I would recommend to wait at least another 7 days to be sure!

Several antibiotics can successfully cure gonorrhea in adolescents and adults. However, drug-resistant strains of gonorrhea are increasing in many areas of the world, including the United States, and successful treatment of gonorrhea is becoming more difficult. Because many people with gonorrhea also have chlamydia, another STD, antibiotics for both infections are usually given together. Persons with gonorrhea should be tested for other STDs.

It is important to take all of the medication prescribed to cure gonorrhea. Although medication will stop the infection, it will not repair any permanent damage done by the disease.

People who have had gonorrhea and have been treated can get the disease again if they have sexual contact with persons infected with gonorrhea. If a person's symptoms continue even after receiving treatment, he or she should return to a doctor to be reevaluated.

Why is it difficult to treat gonorrhea while having sickle cell anemia?

If a patient has sickle cell anemia and is diagnosed with gonorrhea, why is it difficult to treat the patient with a "normal" dose of antibiotics? What can happen if the gonorrhea is not treated right away?
----------

Gonorrhea is not more difficult to treat in patients with Sickle Cell Anemia, but patients with Sickle Cell Anemia are at higher risk for more serious infections with Gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is treated with antibiotics and if appropriate antibiotics are chosen then treatment has the same effectiveness whether the person has sickle disease or not. Patients with sickle cell disease can develop widespread disease, which can produce a rash and joint issues. If the gonorrhea is not treated properly, then it could lead to spread through the bloodstream which leads to joint infections and a rash.  (+ info)

what is the percentage of not getting gonorrhea through intercourse?

Long Story Short. My homeboy's girl got gonorrhea. She had it for 2 weeks now and just found out, but been had the symptoms. He hasnt shown any symptoms, but still is going to get tested. So what is the percent of him getting gonorrhea from her?
----------

There is no percentage with ANY STD, ever. It could only take one encounter for any STD to be transmitted. Some factors can make it easier for transmission, for example, if your immune system is weakened because of any other infection it coud make it easier for an STD to be transmitted.

Also, symptoms do not appear as soon as someone gets infected. Especially in women, it could take weeks before symptoms actually occur. Regardless, your friend needs to get tested and seek treatment immediately.  (+ info)

When will the gonorrhea symptoms disappear after taking the azithromycin?

A while ago, i started showing symptoms of vaginal infection, it turns out that i have gonorrhea. I went back to the doctor to get treated. My doctor gave me a powder packet of azithromycin. - it should be 1g ( i think). It has been four days since i took the medicine, but i still have the same symptoms. Could be the antibiotic is not working? if so, when should i revisit the doctor to get treated with a different antibiotic?
----------

Ask you doctor what the process is and what can be done to make sure the infection is treated properly.  (+ info)

where does the gonorrhea bacteria come from?

I know the that gonorrhea comes from the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae, but how do you get the bacteria?

-Long story short. My homeboy's girl have gonorrhea and found out she has had it for two weeks. Now my homeboy is about to get tested for it. They both claim they didnt have sex with no one else. [[i think she did]], but in a perfect world... What happen if they both are telling the truth? How can you get the gonorrhea bacteria? Not by washing right, having to much sex, etc?
----------

Hey Jackie!

First off, someone's not telling the truth. If one of them got gonorrhea, then one of them had sex with an infected person. That's the way it is.

The only way to get gonorrhea is from vaginal, anal, or oral-genital contact with an infected person.

Also, some people "cheat" by saying that giving oral isn't sex. You bet it's sex, and you can get it from oral sex with an infected person.

I'm glad they're getting tested. And they should get tested for HIV/AIDS, syphilis and other diseases too. It just takes having sex one time to get them.  (+ info)

Is it true that gonorrhea can get rid of herpes?

So eh I got herpes and my buddy just told me gonorrhea gets rid of it? True or false? Dont wanna take any chances getting another STD if it doesnt work but am willing to try anything!
----------

No dude it doesn't work like that. Having one std doesn't cancel the other one out and there is no cure for herpes so gonorrhoea won't get rid of that.
Nothing gets rid of herpes, there is no cure for it on the market yet. Lysine only suppresses it.  (+ info)

What are the effects of gonorrhea on postmenopausal women/ women with their tubes tied?

It seems like most of the serious effects of gonorrhea in women are related to pregnancy complications. I'm looking for general info about this disease and women who can't get pregnant, either bc they are postmenopausal or have had their tubes tied. What will their symptoms be? Are they any less likely to contract the disease? What will the effects of the disease be? Thanks
----------

If the tubes are tied, then gonorrhea can cause endocervicitis that can end in a pelvic inflammmatory disease or tuboovarian abscess formation

How do you know if you have gonorrhea or chlamydia?

Serious answers please!!! I am a married woman and I am absolutely faithful. My husband is deployed and came home two weeks ago for R and R. I begin to have diarrha and feel sick at my stomach as well as having joint pain. I went to the doctor today thinking I have stomach problems after it not going away for 11 days. They made a appointment for the gynocologist and a gastrologists. They were asking me all sorts of questions about discharge and sex and when I got home I had been prescribed a antiboditic that treats gonorrhea and chlamydia. Just wondering if I should be concerned or is this protocall.
I was not given a swab test, this was a general medicine doctor and so he referred me to a gyno but by the time I get to him I will have been on antiboditics and I will never know just wondering if these symptoms even fit a STD.
----------

It's a little strange that you were given antibiotics based on suspicion, rather than a definitive test result.
Both gonorrhea and chlamydia can be diagnosed by taking a swab of your cervix (done during a pelvic exam.) It is possible to have had both for a long time; most women have no symptoms. But it's completely worthless to treat you and not your partner as well, assuming you really do have one of those (doesn't sound like you are sure yet.)

I wish you the best...I would ask specifically what the antibiotics were for, and if you were actually tested or they just "think" you might have it.  (+ info)

How do you know if you have gonorrhea and chlamydia?

What symptoms do you have when you have gonorrhea and chlamydia?
----------

gonorrhea and chlamydia are2 different sexually transmitted diseases which usually present with similar symptome-painful passing of urine and later on discharge(whitish or yellowish).these infections can get complicated into epididymitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.the treatment an be same or different depending on the choice of antibiotics by your doctor.i would suggest Tab Ofloxacin 200 mg twice a day for ten days to be on the safer side although seven days is usually sufficient.also drink a lot of water so that the infection gets flushed out faster(dead bacteria and cell debris)  (+ info)

Where can I get cheap testing for Gonorrhea?

My boyfriend has been diagnosed with gonorrhea. We have been sexually involved for 5 months, and basically there is no way I don't have it, even though I am asymptomatic. I am 16. Although he is able to have his parents pay for the appointment and test, there is no way I can go to my parents. Is there anywhere I can go that isn't expensive to get tested. Or is there any way to use my insurance with out my parents being informed?
