What to do with my articulation disorders?

I noticed this problem while talking. When I tried to say something like pyramid,i have difficulties in pronouncing the words. And sometimes I cannot say the letter R and some words with that particular letter.I haven't have a problem like this before.I was very talkative when I was still in my home country. But since I moved here I had noticed that my communication skills just went low.Is learning or speaking new complicated language like Finnish can trigger this kind of disorder?I also noticed my English language skills,I speaked English fluently before, but now I dont know anymore.I s there anybody who is suffering the same delimma as I have? What can I do to cure my speech problems?

Hi

The first thing I would recommend is you make an appointment with a qualified Speech Pathologist. This is a person who specialises in how we make words, the specific muscles used as well as linquistic differences.

They will be able to assess your speech to determine if it is wholly connected with your movement to a new country or a loss of speaking ability.

If it is connected to you hearing different accents causing muscle confusion then they will be able to provide techniques and advice on how to rectify and improve your speech.

If, on the other hand your ability to speak has decreased, then they possibly will be able to identify what, where, how much and possibly why. They would then be able to advise you what you can do i.e. who else to see.

Personally, from what you have said, it sounds most likely you are suffering from confused accents syndrome. I know when I travel I usually end up sounding more like a local and loose much of my 'own' accent. Oh and I cannot emphasise a strong "r" in a word and pronounce some words in my own unique way and my main language is English.

So, see that speech pathologist and put your mind at rest.  (+ info)

Can a cerebellum stroke cause personality disorders?

A relative suffered two massive strokes to the cerebellum. They doctor said a full recovery is expected.
Here is their problem. Their personality seems to change for no apparent reason and they will turn on anyone around them by using vile language and try to attack physically whomever is their target that day.
Is this part of the stroke?

Is taking garlic useful in preventing gastrointestinal disorders and lowering cholesterol levels?

What are the other uses of taking garlic?
There is one saying in Telugu language that even mother also could not do good to us as garlic does to us.
----------

Look at the following link and the extract of the info given below:

Garlic Medicinal Properties

The bulbs yield an essential oil containing allyl propyl disulphide, diallyl disulphide and two other sulphur compounds. The garlic bulbs have stimulant, anti cholesterol, antibacterial, aphrodisiac, analgesic, anthelmintic, diuretic, emmenagogue and anti fungal properties. The sulphur compounds give garlic the characteristic pungent odour and the nickname, 'the stinking rose'!

Cholesterol Remedy

Compounds in garlic causes blood clots to dissolve more quickly and improve blood fluidity. Studies show that garlic contains hydrogen sulfide, which interacts with the red blood cells and helps the vessels and capillaries to relax. This in turns lowers the blood pressure. It contains peptide which prevents blood pressure from raising.

It has also shown to lower cholesterol levels. Garlic decoction or a few cloves of garlic in food is an excellent cardiac supplement. Read other Cholesterol Home Remedies.  (+ info)

I am about to graduate with a master degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Swallowing Disorders. I live currently reside in Lake Mary, Florida. I am looking to move to a family oriented city or town, good school, etc, even if it has to be overseas.

Is add and a language processing disorder considered a disability in the state of AR?

I have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and a language processing disorder. I am just wanting to know what kind of asistance I can get!
----------

If, and only if, it is so severe that it prevents you from working at all. It is not the disorder that determines if you can get disability.... it is the "inability to work" that determines whether or not you are eligible.  (+ info)

Is there a differences between an expressive language disorder and Dysgraphia?

I have some questions on the differences has Expressive language disorder falls under DSM 315.31 and Dysgraphia falls under DSM 315.2.
----------

You probably mean agraphia. agraphia or dysgraphia (a- and dys- root means without/unable) means you have difficulty writing. that does not necessarily mean the same as expressive language disorder which is more aprosidia (inability to express oneself via facial expression/gesture or understand others prose). i learned all this in psych although the whole broadman's areas and its associations i dont' remember all that much i am sure that expressive side comes from the right side of the hemisphere and writing has to do with the lexicon BA 39 i believe (neuroscience) and getting it to the area for motor to write down the things you want to express. i hope this helps! good luck  (+ info)

Name the language disorder causing talking of overly complicated sentences full of terms with no sense?

People suffering from this disorder very vigorously talk without pauses, but nothing they say makes any sense.
----------

I believe you're thinking of Wernicke's aphasia. A Wikipedia article describes it as follows: "Individuals with Wernicke's aphasia may speak in long sentences that have no meaning, add unnecessary words, and even create new 'words' (neologisms). "  (+ info)

Can problems with communication and language impairment be treated through antipsychotic medicines?

I know that schizo is typically associated with hallucinations, but I dont think that is always the case with some forms of schizo. I read up about thought disorder and the information itself was kinda vague and possibly leading me in the wrong direction as it relates to me. However, it did indicate that patients with thought disorder have this type of problem. I feel like this is me all the time as it is extremely difficult for me to communicate through writing and verbal. Dont know what to do.
----------

If you are able to coherently type all of that out in a forum (and find the appropriate forum online in which to post it), you do not have a formal thought disorder.  (+ info)
