Question about Cutaneous larva migrans (hookworm)?

If you have ever had this or known someone who had it did the medication for it work? How long did it take for it to go away? And did any of the complications from it that doctors say are rare, happen? Like the larvae moving into the intestine an/or lungs cuasing diarrhea, nausea, coughing, pheumonia, anemia?
----------

We went to Jamaica a few years ago. A few months after returning my 9 year old daugher noticed little red lines on the bottom of her feet. Her pediatrician diagnosed her with cutaneous larva migrans. He froze both ends of the lines on every line there was. The lines went away after that. I assume their gone. The only reason I'm searching on this topic now is because I was watching a documentary last night on parasites and how they can travel through your blood stream and attach to your organs, etc. I'm wondering now if she should've taken something to make sure none of them traveled? I'm very concerned. Anyhow I hope this helps you in some way.  (+ info)

What is the best cardio exercise for eliminating visceral fat? Anaerobic or Aerobic cardio?

That dangerous bellyfat that is around the heart and is more of a hard feeling of fat around the abdomen. I have to get rid of it because of all the dangers that it presents. Which type of cardio should I be doing and what types of foods should I be eating to gradually lower visceral fat out of my abdomen.
----------

Aerobic definitely.

Also eat a low carb diet. Avoid potatos, saturated fats and try to eat food rich in omega 3, fruit, vegs, nuts and pulses.

Drink green tea two or three times a day, it's really good for your heart and circulation.  (+ info)

How can I tell if my stomach is made up of visceral fat, or subcutaneous fat?

I've been reading about visceral fat, the deadly fat that wraps around your organs, and how dangerous it is. I want to know how I can tell if my big stomach is made up mostly of visceral or subcutaneous fat.

I do have a big stomach, I'm 215 pounds and I'm 5'4, but it seems to be mostly soft fat, not the hard round belly you see on old men. Does this mean my fat is mostly subcutaneous?
----------

Its still fat so you want to get rid of it.  (+ info)

When you lower your cholesterol do you also lose visceral fat?

When you lower one do you lower the other automatically? Bad Cholesterol and Visceral Fat?
----------

Depends on the way you get rid of your cholesterol. If you are doing it diet and exercise, yes, you will be losing both cholesterol and visceral fat. If you take statin (a type of cholesterol medicine) alone, you will mainly lose cholesterol, not much on visceral fat or simply fat.  (+ info)

Does drinking water help in eliminating visceral fat?

Will drinking an adequate amount of water reduce visceral fat? Visceral fat is the fat behind the abdomen and inside the internal organs for those who don't know. I know cardio will, that's what I do already, what I don't already is drink enough water. So that's why I'm asking the question on drinking water and will it eliminate visceral fat?

How can I get rid of visceral fat?

I appear in good shape, but am afraid I may also have visceral fat (fat between organs that often goes unnoticed). What are some good exercises that can target this?
----------

Visceral fat is generally needed to protect your organs- you should not try and lose fat there. It is vital for living.  (+ info)

Is Visceral\abdominal fat the first to go?

I've read some conflicting information where some people say visceral\abdominal fat is the hardest to lose, while other sources say visceral fat is the first to go. Who's correct?
----------

It's different for each person. It's not any harder to loose the fat around your stomach then anywhere else it just takes longer because generally it's the last to go. But again it varys person to person.  (+ info)

What would happen to the lungs if either the visceral pleura or parietal pleura were damaged?

For my college-level anatomy & physiology course. Can't find the answer in my notes or study guide. Help?
----------

a damaged parietal pleura would probably result in an empyema if infection ocurred, (pus in the pleural cavity) or a hemothorax(blood in the thoracic cavity) if the visceral pleura were damaged. both problems would reduce pulmonary function by compressing the lungs this could lead to other conditions such as atelactasis. if both pleuras were damaged at the same time it could cause a pleural rub, a painful condition in which both pleuras rub together on inspiration. hope i helped a little good luck with ur class.  (+ info)

How do I get rid of “visceral” or intra-abdominal fat?

Also, are these any "natural" ways to turn down the cortisol "switch"?
Thanks a bunch, I appreciate all replies!
----------

Walking is considered by many health and fitness experts to be a much better way of helping to control visceral fat than by doing exercises such as swimming where gravity keeps the body afloat. Walking at a fairly fast pace for a half an hour six days a week has been shown to help reduce visceral fat, while walking only three days a week has not been shown to have much affect on the reduction of visceral fat. However, doing no exercise at all has shown to increase the amount of visceral fat in the body.
