What do u do when you break a small blood vessel under your eye?

I was choking the other day on a vitamin and a small blood vessel - in the shape of almost an octopus (no laughing please) - broke under my eye causing a lot of puffiness and a red mark...I no longer have medical insurance and am not sure what to do...Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

it will heal on its own. I had this happen but it turned out a lot scarier than yours. I was throwing up one night from drinking alcohol and i dry heaved really hard this one time and felt a blood vessel under my eye break. I looked up and blood just started pouring out of my nose. I broke a couple of them apparently but after my nose stopped bleeding, everything was fine and it healed within a couple of days  (+ info)

is the lymphatic system the same as the immune system? If not what is the difference?

I am working on a science project and the organ i got involves the lymphatic system. In some searches it said something about the immune system. Is the lymphatic system and the immune system the same thing?

What I got from my research is that the lymphatic system transports a clear liquid called lymph through the body. Basically, the lymph sits between cells in your organs, tissues, and blood. After the lymph is recirculated, it returns to the lymph nodes and is cleaned. This is why, if you have an infection, your lymph nodes are swollen. The bacteria are transported back to your lymph nodes.

The immune system is made to fight of infection. The lymphatic system merely helps detect an infection.

How many people a year are diagnosed with primary spinal cord tumors?

I have to do research on it and on one site it tells me 400, another - 1,000, and another says 10,000 but this includes primary and metastatic tumors.

Every year, about 100,000 people in the United States and 10,000 people in Canada will be diagnosed with a metastatic or primary brain tumor. http://www.rfsafe.com/brain_tumors.htm

About 10,000 Americans develop primary or metastatic spinal cord tumors every year. Spinal cord tumors are most common in young and middle-aged adults. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/pubs/  (+ info)

What happens if a nurse were to inject medication into a blood vessel?

I went for a dr appoint and was given an IM injection in my butt. The lady said I bleed quite a bit so i started to wonder if she were to have given me an injection and it went into my blood vessel what would happen? Also is it normal to bleed a lot with this injection?

Systemic distribution of the drug to all organs of the body. I highly doubt she got it into an important vessel. Do not worry, sounds like you may have just had problems clotting or she hit a capillary.  (+ info)

What are the odds of having a two vessel cord for a second time?

When I was pregnant with my first child, I had a two vessel cord. I just found out that I am pregnant again and I was wondering if anyone knew the odds of this repeating. Thankfully, my first child is perfectly healthy, but I know that having a two vessel cord can be harmful to your baby.

Help! Thanks so much.

Wasn't that so scary, I didn't find out till my baby was born that he had a two vessel cord and thankfully he was healthy also, I wonder what causes this to happen I know that I had a low lying placenta with this baby also. I don't know the odds but I wish you all the luck.  (+ info)

How do you pop a blood vessel in your eye while sleeping?

I woke up this morning with a bloody spot on the outside corner of my eye. My husband said its just a popped blood vessel. How did this happen? And is there anything that will help it go away?

Straining of any kind can cause this, and you may not of even realized that you were doing it. It can happen sometimes just going to the bathroom, I know that sounds gross, but it's true.
It is called a subconjunctival hemorage, sounds much worse than it is. It's basically a bruise and it will got through the same healing stages as one. It will most likely get bigger, and darker, eventually turning yellow and then will go away. It could take a few days. There really is no way to rush the healing either, that I'm aware of anyway.  (+ info)

How long does a broken blood vessel on my chin last?

I have a broken blood vessel on my chin and it left a nasty dark spot. How long until it is less noticeable and is there anything I can do to get rid of it?

It could take 7 - 14 days. Unfortunately, you can't speed things up.

A girl/woman could use makeup to conceal it.  (+ info)

How can i prevent my eye vessel from popping?

I got really scared because I saw a kid with red eyes and it really scared me and then found out that her eye vessel pop. I'm scared it might happen to me. How can I prevent this from happening?

The "popped eye vessel" is called a subconjunctival hemmorhage. It is commonly caused from injury (ie getting puched) or straining too hard. Straining could include lifting too much weight, violent vomitting, straining during defecation, and coughing very hard. People who are anemic are also more prone to have a subconj heme. There really is no way to prevent it but it is also nothing to worry about. It is technically a "bruise" on the eye, it's just that unlike the rest of your body, the skin is clear and you can see the blood more clearly. Also just like a bruise it will go away on its own in about the same amount of time.  (+ info)
