What exactly happens in your body when you pop a blood vessel?

My dad popped a blood vessel in his finger and 2 of my friends have popped blood vessels in their eyes before. (FYI-A best answer would have at least 3 sentences)
----------

blood flows into the surrounding tissue and the lymph fluid extracts the excess fluid and the area swells because the white blood cells (usually the T4 anti body) because they fight off any bacteria or viruses that may be introduced into the body.  (+ info)

What would happen if you popped a blood vessel in your head?

Last time I went to a wrestling match, I screamed ongoing and loudly. My friend told me to be quiet because there was a blue blood vessel sticking out of my head? What would happen if it had popped?
----------

Some people have really big veins in their heads. I had an instructor who had a huge one right between his eyes.

First of all, unless you have some sort of issue with your veins it is not going to pop (and if you are young enough to be yelling at a sporting event you are too young for this).

If it did pop, the bleeding could be controlled the same way as any other injury -- with direct pressure. There are no arteries that will "pop" externally, so you don't have to worry about bleeding to death from it.  (+ info)

Why are tumors still growing after masectomy?

My aunt had a masectomy (breast removed) but she again saw 2 tumors below her armpit this year (stage II breast cancer). She's undergoing radiation and taking anti-cancer medicines. She said that one of the lumps on her right armpit has gone smaller. Is that a good thing? And why do they grow back? When will they stop growing?
----------

Unfortunately breast cancer can recur at any time, even years after initial diagnosis and treatment - there is no 'all clear' for breast cancer.

Although they can happen at any time, recurrences are most likely in the two years following treatment, and statistically they are less likely to happen after 5 years. Although I know I won't be out of the woods, I shall celebrate just a bit when I reach five years since treatment later this year.

Yes, the tumour shrinking is a good thing.  (+ info)

How long does it take for a broken blood vessel to disappear from one's eye white?

This happened to me five days ago, and it is taking forever to disappear. This happened to me over 10 years ago, and it went away the very next day. Maybe my nutrition is weak, and I am getting older. Or could it be something else. I am 54. Nothing hit my eye, a blood vessel just broke... I think. Help.
----------

The broken blood vessel is like a bruise-it's more noticeable though since there is no pigment like with your skin. It will vary in time to dissipate, like with a bruise. But approximately 2 weeks. You may want to get your blood pressure checked and make sure that it's not high. Love conquers all things.  (+ info)

How big portion of lung tumors are cancers?

My mum just found out (via x-ray) that she has a tumor in the lungs. She will do further tests next week but for now we know nothing about the tumor itself. Searching the web, I cannot tell if a 'lung tumor = lung cancer', or if there are also less harmful lung tumors. Any insights would be much appreciated.
She has lost quite a bit of weight. At the same time she found out about the lung tumor, she was told that she has had at least two heart attacks (myocardial infarctions). She also has some non-descriptive trouble with one of her legs now. No idea if that is related though.
----------

These are ALL benign (NOT cancer) lung tumors:

Benign tumors: adenoma, benign metastasizing leiomyoma, clear cell (sugar) tumor, diffuse pulmonary lymphangiomatosis, granular cell tumor, hamartoma, hemangioma, hemangiomatosis, inflammatory pseudotumor, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, leiomyoma, lipoma, lymphangiomyomatosis, micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia, paraganglioma, sclerosing hemangioma, solitary fibrous tumor, squamous papilloma

So, as you can see, a mass or tumor on a chest x-ray does not necessarily mean cancer.  (+ info)

What treatment do you recommend for fibroid tumors?

I was diagnosed with having fibroid tumors back in April. I have two tumors the size of golf balls on my uterus, so far non cancerous. I have some pain and discomfort and heavy uncontrolled bleeding spells. My gyn acts like it's no big deal, but I don't like feeling this way all the time. Does anyone have any advice?
----------

The only treatment for fibroid tumors is surgery. All it is, is thick tissue that causes pain. I had them too and after a while, they had to be removed because they got so big. There's no pill to make them go away. If you feel pain from them, use a warm heating pad and it really eases up the pain. Good luck  (+ info)

Why have I got a permanent headache since a burst blood vessel in my eye?

I had a burst blood vessel in my eye that was really painful as it burst. I was checked by an Optician and a Doctor . My BP was very high but did go to normal quite soon after. After a week the bloodiness in my eye has gone, but I have had a perpetual headache behind my eye since. It actually wakes me in the night sometimes. What is the reason for the headaches? Are they related to the burst or coincidence?
----------

yes they are related and go to the doctors as soon as possible  (+ info)

What causes a busted blood vessel in thumb?

I have a small red dot on my right hands thumb. I was told it was a busted blood vessel and that it should go away in a week or 2. Its been over a month. What is the cause of a blood vessel? and also on the same hand i seem to have a very light rash on the back of my hand. or so it looks like a rash. does that have anything to do with the busted blood vessel?
----------

It is possible you had an allergic response to something and scratched your hand so hard you broke a blood vessel causing the blood blister.
It is impossible for me to know, but maybe you were bitten by a spider or something.
It also is possible you are just lucky, they say if your hand itches it is good luck. (Just to help you feel better).  (+ info)
