Can snoring start when you are half asleep or not in deep sleep?

the problem is sometimes when i'm trying to sleep i hear my own snoring & i wake up.
----------

You can cure it ..not to start in the first place.Research has shown that a whopping one in four people suffer from snoring. If that weren't amazing enough, most of those afflicted believe there is nothing to be done for their condition. They don't realize that a good night's sleep is within their grasp. Some people are giving a new product called Snorezip a try, and are having great results.

Snorezip was developed to increase oxygen flow and reduce mucus. When oxygen flow is increased and mucus reduced, it has been proven that the incidence of snoring will also be greatly reduced, if not eliminated. This product may be just the thing to get those afflicted with snoring on the road to a restful sleep.

Snoring is not just an annoying habit, but can seriously threaten your health. Doctors claim that patients who snore are more likely to be fatigued, and are more susceptible to life threatening conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Snoring also increases the incidence of high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome. Snorezip, with its proven record of reducing incidence of snoring could help reduce this risk.

SnoreZip is very affordable and easy to use. Most snoring remedies involve the use of uncomfortable masks that must be worn at night. The sheer discomfort of these masks is enough to make most sufferers abandon such a program long before there is any benefit. Since SnoreZip is administered as an oral spray, there's no excuse not to give it a try. Just spray SnoreZip into your mouth before you go to bed, and you could be minutes away from a good night's sleep!

Is there connection between snoring and nasal congestion?

I use ear plugs at night when I sleep, and because of this I've heard myself snore. And I have nasal congestion, so I wonder if there's connection between snoring and nasal congestion. Your help is appreciated.
----------

Yes, and keeping the nasal passages and sinuses clear helps reduce snoring. A big secret is that neck position has a big connection also. Keeping the neck in it's normal alignment not only helps keep the sinuses and nasal passaga ways in the normal open position but putting the neck in it's normal position helps keep away nerve pressure. Nerves that communicate to your sinuses and nasal passage ways.

Without going into too much detail, use this neck pillow when you sleep. You'll have a pleasant surprise when you stop snoring: http://www.arc4life.com/site/615058/product/CLTractionPillow  (+ info)

How can I help my husband stop snoring?

I am so tired of being woken up every hour or so to my husband snoring in my ear or my face. He says it's because he has a cold, but he snores much more often than he doesn't. He snores regardless of what position he lies in (on his side, back, stomach).

He's 24, a little overweight but not obese, and doesn't drink or take any medications.

Any suggestions?
----------

Take out the "over" from overweight. Snoring is a warning sign of air obstruction. You may not be the only one lacking sleep. He may gasp for air in between snores and may not know it. He may be suffering from lack of oxygen already and would not have rested well after hours of snoring. Hypoxia or lack of oxygen may manifest in different ways - headache could be one example.

Consult an ENT.
Second, when he is lying supine (or lying on his back), put most of the bulk of the pillow under his neck area making his head tilt back a litte (like it seems that he is trying to look at the headboard).  (+ info)

I have a problem of snoring which causes lot of inconvenience for my family members. Is there any way in which I can get rid of this problem?
----------

First rule out any medical problem like a nasal obstruction like nasal polyps or a deviated nasal septum or like a throat obstruction while sleeping. In the absence of these, the following tips will help to stop snoring or reduce it to within tolerable limits :
1. Loose weight.20% over weight men and 30% over weight women snore more.
2. If you are not active in life, you will snore more.
3. Do not drink alcohol before dinner. If you do,then to avoid snoring, drink a lot of water before you sleep.
4. Quit smoking. If you can't,then give a break of at least 4 hours before you sleep.
5. Sleep on your side and not straight. If you are a moderate snorer,it will stop if you sleep on your side.
6. Avoid pillows.Avoid elevation of your head and neck and you will snore less or stop snoring.  (+ info)

Is a mouth retainer an effective way to stop snoring?

My dad is a chronic and loud snorer and is looking for a way to stop all the snoring.
He is actually none of the listed: he's very fit for his age and doesn't drink often (only socially, and that's only 1 or 2 beers). Was tested negative for Sleep Apnea.

Are there any natural solutions that can help my husband snoring?

He has tried the over the counter nose strips and the mouth spray. They help some but not enough. He just simply will not have surgery to stop the snoring. I simply need some sleep! Thanks.
----------

The above answer is ridiculous!! Anyways snoring is a sign of restrictive breathing and I actually would not recommend the surgeries whatsoever. They do not work and neither do home remedies. Most likely your husband has obstructive sleep apnea. Snoring is a very good indicator, although not always present. Sleep apnea is associated with many cardiac issues such as high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and can be fatal if left untreated. Your husband needs to be evaluated by a board certified sleep physician and have a sleep study performed. The only proven effective treatment for sleep apnea is CPAP or continous positive airway pressure and it will stop the snoring so you can get your rest as well. Good luck  (+ info)
