The type species of lymphocryptovirus, subfamily gammaherpesvirinae, infecting B-cells in humans. It is thought to be the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis and is strongly associated with oral hairy leukoplakia (leukoplakia, hairy;), burkitt lymphoma; and other malignancies.
