An acquired cognitive disorder characterized by inattentiveness and the inability to form short term memories. This disorder is frequently associated with chronic alcoholism; but it may also result from dietary deficiencies; craniocerebral trauma; neoplasms; cerebrovascular disorders; encephalitis; epilepsy; and other conditions.
