In ultrafiltration the separation is accomplished by convective transport; in dialysis separation relies instead upon differential diffusion. ultrafiltration occurs naturally and is a laboratory procedure. Artificial ultrafiltration of the blood is referred to as hemofiltration or hemodiafiltration (if combined with HEMODIALYSIS).
