What are the steps in the production of insulin from bovine or porcine?
I know that insulin from pigs and cattle are still done.

Early insulin was deriveved from animal sources - not rats, but from pigs and cows, giving the terms "porvine" from pigs and "borvine" from cows. However animal insulin did show to have a few problems when inserted into humans and so a human form of insulin has now been developed.

I am a vegetarian; however how can doritos be considered "vegetarian" if they have porcine enzymes in them?
How can subway be "vegetarian" if they use the same gloves to cut the vegetables as with pork or any other meat? I am confused. Help. Oh, yah, how can skittles be vegetarian if they have beef gelatin? Now I am really confused.

Do i have porcine influenza or am i just being paranoic?
it's been two days since i've been feeling nauseous, headache, i feel like my body weights 450lbs( i feel like crap ), and i even though i get 8 hours of daily sleep which is more than enough i've been feeling like i just can't stay awake. is it a normal virus o the beginning of something else? :( btw i found out about the porcine influenza today.

Does anyone know WHY SOME DRUGS ARE PORCINE and others are BOVINE??
There are certain drugs and preparations which has a porcine source, and others might have a bovine source. Does anyone here know why one or the other exists? Is it simply the choice of the pharmaceutical company? Is one more easily accessible than the other? Is one safer than the other??

The choice is dependent on a number of issues, and one that readily stand out is around compatability. I t is noted that pigs tend to show greater compatability to humans hence the use of tissues in transplant- xenotransplants and so the risk of rejection is lower, another issue is the fact that pigs do have a plethora of offsprings, compared to cows and thus the issue of reproducibilty as well as the cost. It is noted that some researchers use the porcine as not only these pigs are reared for their products pharmaceutically but for their meats. (
